Unabridged audio version...

I really enjoyed this book. Good "chick flick" in written form :)! Like the other Lynn Austen books, the subject matter is somewhat depressing in a way, but somewhat uplifting at the same time, if that makes any sense. All’s well that ends well :) haha!

Engaging and interesting with a more complicated story line, that and I don't have to worry about anything "bad" (she's a christian author).

There are some cheesy parts about faith but all in all a good story.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Lynn Austin is fast becoming one of my favorite authors.

Set during the depression, after WW1, Eliza is a young widow living with her children and father-in-law. After his death, she struggles to run the family orchards on her own. A stranger appears on her doorstep, injured and looking for work. As Eliza nurses Gabe back to health, he integrates himself into her family and heart, but secrets threaten to destroy everything.

The story is told in separate ...more

This book, I came across quite randomly, but I have to say it was amazing. A bit of a slow starter, but as I got into it I couldn't help but get sucked it. It's such a thick book though, I was sad that there were a couple times I had to put it down to go to work or sleep. However, it's definitely something to read on an empty weekend because once you get passed the beginning, it's hard to put down. It's set up in several of the characters' stories, which is also really nice to see. You don't see...more

“It took me awhile to like the main character in this book, but once the story got going I didn't want it to end. I wish I had an "Aunt Batty" in my life with such words of wisdom: "Jesus says if we ask our Father for bread, He won't give us a stone. We have to stop seeing the bad things in life as stones--they're really God's bread. They'll nourish us and help us grow if we accept them as food for our souls." There were a lot of twists to the story that kept me interested ...more

This was a good book, and I definately say that Lynn Austin is my favorite author. This book wasn't disappointing, just a little different style than usual.

It's a story about a widow with 3 children during the Depression, and this stranger they meet named Gabriel. There's a bunch of flashback to people lives previously. The story is very well done.

There's a Hallmark movie based on it that I want to see soon.

I LOVED this book! Such a great story. I will admit that some of the characters were a little too one dimentional, but overall such a great book. It's a story about a family with secrets and they are in the middle of a tragedy. But with the help of a crazy old lady, they learn to turn to God and everything works out eventually.

Another Lynn Austin book that kept me spell bound. I enjoyed the characters and storyline and would love to see a sequel. Apparently there is a movie for this book but I don't know if it will come close to doing the novel justice. Easy laid back fun novel and now I'm dying to try another Lynn Austin book.

This was a wonderful, uplifting book about human lives and the sorrows and the struggles we go through during those sorrows. It also shows the best way to obtain happiness through all we experience in life. This is by far one of the best stories I've read in awhile. I highly recommend it to everyone!

Another great Lynn Austin book! This is another book that I've read multiple times. She takes on a different era, the depression, in this book. Once again her character development and story layering is beyond brillant! I truly loved this book and would recommend it.

I watched the movie too. It was good in a historical way, because I haven't read much in that time frame, so that was enjoyable. Overall the story was happy, but it rather dragged for me a little bit. I was left feeling more depressed than happy most of the time.

I've picked up some Christian fiction again recently. And while a lot of them are notorious for poor writing and weak story lines I have to say I still enjoy a good, heartwarming fluff read. But I actually really liked this one. I liked the characters.

This was a cheap book that my mom picked up at Wal-mart and it was actually quite good. The characters are complex and likeable. It did get a little wordy toward the end, but it's all in a feel good uplifting (if somewhat Pollyanna) type book.

As often happens, there's much more to the book than there was in the movie. I enjoyed the twists and turns that weren't shown at all in the movie. Lynn Austin is a Christian writer so her books are clean and enjoyable.

I enjoyed most of the book, but the last 100 pages were a little disappointing. Aunt Batty was a delightful character. Overall, I would recommend the book as a little bit of escapism - good, clean, fun read.

A good light & fluffy read - w/romantic ending...I need a book like this once in awhile. I really liked the strength of the main characters. Aunt Batty was my favortie. A well written inspirational summer read.

A widow trying to survive the depression era with three children and an orchard to manage. Reinforces that "all things work together for good for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purposes."
