What grabs me most about this book is Crawford's rendering of Carter's adolescent, ADD voice. From the first page, I knew this character. In this way, it surpasses Don Calame's Swim the Fly, although there are striking similarities in tone and plot between the two. And unlike several other teen comedies, Carter isn't a loser; he's actually fairly popular. Some of the convenient tropes are a little predictable (the sassy older sister, the befuddled parents, the thuggish bully, the out-of-contr

Take one hormonally challenged teenaged boy. Add in one strong case of unmedicated ADD, Liberally spice with lust, bad decision making, and an overactive teenaged brain and libido and mix liberally with a non-stop inner monologue (with the ocassional inner duologue) and you get Carter. A happy go-lucky disaster in residence.
This book has the same sort of charm as Inside Out but in a slightly less dysfunctional package. But only slightly less dysfunctional.

This book was made for teenagers going to high school for the first time. Carter is a confused boy looking for easy sex and acceptance to the people at his school that were supposedly "cool". This book just shows the experiences of what it is like to be a young adult in a world where he has to find himself and grow up a little.

Carter has ADD. Let's get that out of the way. The running interior monologue is a 300 page testament to this fact. If I wrote my autobiography in the style of this book, it would read something like this: I was a kid. Private school. Then I went to Junior High. I LOVE baseball. High school was cool, sort of. Explosions in chemistry! College. Drinking. Fraternity. City living. Met someone and got married. Holy cow, a kid! Another one! I teach.

The best thing about this book is Carter. Carter is the main character of the story and is a very strange individual. It is interesting how many things he has to overcome but yet he keeps on adding more to his list to do. He has to do everything from football to the school play while trying to have fun and understand girls.
The worse thing about this book would have to be the drama part of the book towards the end. It might be just because im not to much into the play and all that stuff. I More...

Will Carter is a freshman with ADD, a stutter when he talks to girls, and a desperate desire to make his first year of high school as successful as possible. Unfortunately for Carter (but fortunately for the reader), things don’t go exactly as planned. Carter narrates the ups and downs of his freshman year, from his first date to his first (and second) disastrous encounter with shaving, his first college party to his first (and second) run from the cops, and everything in between.

Carter Finally Gets It is a Young Adult book by Brent Crawford about a 14-year-old boy entering high school. Will Carter stutters when he’s stressed and has ADD, and if those weren’t enough of a problem, he’s clueless. Like most boys that age, sex suddenly becomes the most important thing in his life, but he still must deal with the day-to-day issues of high school. Carter wants to fit in, be popular, and succeed, but hasn’t any idea how to do any of those things. The author doesn’t tell the rea

End the R Word Day 2012
Being inside the head of a fourteen-year-old boy is scary! This book was incredibly real, very entertaining, and laugh-out-loud funny. It is a book with five star potential, but alas, I could only give it two.
I'm about to get preachy...

Yes, yes he finally does...at around page 290 out of 300. Up until that point you have to put up with a lot of alternately tedious and offensive scenes. After reading this book, I realize, though, how difficult it is to create this type of teenage boy narrator (think Holden Caulfield, only less interesting). The narrator in this book is such a tool, it's really hard to get through it in one sitting--I had to put the book down several times, and even once walked out of a coffee shop I was so irri

Carter is a funny, endearing, likeable guy -- think of Joey Pigza (ADD big-time) as a 9th grader whose hormones have gone wild! We get to live in the head of a freshman boy whose main goal is to have sex, but he has to survive football practice, razzing by his friends, belly-flopping at the community pool, lots of parties, being caught by the police, and the intricacies of not making all girls hate him. Very humorous and self-deprecating, you'll love Carter. Big disclaimer, though -- the reas

From page one, I was hating the voice, I thought it was artificial, condescending...then I loosened up a bit, and within a little while, I was loving this book. I just wasn't prepared for it. There really is nothing quite like it. This is a novel told all from a completely uncompromising, rawly honest, unselfconscious "dude" voice. A total dude. A douchey dude at times. This book follows him and his friends, and isn't afraid to show them making gay jokes and throwing around words like

Recommended to my by our lovely Middle School librarian, I read this book and loved it.
When my kids were little and I read with them the Captain Underpants series, my sons were inspired enough to do a series of comic books themselves with similar ideas. Sasha's version won him a prize through the Kansas City Public Libraries in conjunction with the Reading Reptile.

Awkward freshman Will Carter endures many painful moments during his first year of high school before realizing that nothing good comes easily, focus is everything, and the payoff is usually incredible. - From library catalog

I would have never found this book if it wasn't for my magical skills. I went to the library and picked a random book and it was Carter Finally Gets it. I thought, this looks like a pretty good book. Boy how i was right. This book is great. Carter is a typical high school freshman who wants to be considered cool, fit in with the popular crowd, and hook up with girls. He hangs out with friends with nicknames like Bag, Hormone and EJ, plays football because it's apparently the thing to do, and is

Coming of ages stories are one of my favourite kinds. It seems a given that most of these kind of stories are told from a girls perspective. How to fit into a nice niche at school, how to adapt to the high school environment without getting crushed in the stampede, hoe to deal with your first crush. So it was immensely refreshing to see the tale told from a boys perspective. It did wonders for the story, because everyone wants to get inside a teenage boys brain and figure out whether they ha

Hilarious coming-of-age-during-freshman-year-of-high-school story. This was so funny that I giggled most of the way through, and broke out in actual guffaws at some points. I must have the sense of humor of a 14-year-old boy, because the chapter where the narrator eats Taco Bell before a date and then has to figure out how to deal with the resulting flatulence made me laugh so hard that I had to stop and catch my breath before continuing. The plot moves fast, never dwelling on anything long enou

Carter is 14 year old boy, and is on the verge of starting high school. He thinks about the things most 14 year old boys think about girls, his friends, girls, and girls. But high school isn't exactly turning out how he expected it to. He's made a mess of things with his first girlfriend and his ADD makes it hard for him to focus on pretty much anything (school, football, etc.) But he has to figure out a way to get though his freshman year without dying (from embarrassment or by being killed b

Alright. There are a ton of problems I have with this book... but I have to admit I did think this book was hilarious.
Okay I'm a girl. I get that this book isn't exactly fo me, but it was the first book I saw in the library on the shelf of summer reading so I just picked it up. When I got home I read the back and was MORTIFIED. How can the teachers let such a messed up book like this onto the reading list? What creepers will read this and get ideas? Hilarious audiobook. One of the best audiobooks out there for young adults (older). There's just something about Nick's narrator) delivery that made the book so believable. The awesome writing, coupled with the Nick's voice just brought the book to life. I felt like Carter was talking to me the whole time. I laughed wayyyy more than I thought I did. Like laugh out loud laughing, not just a simple chuckle or Ha!

What can I say? I laughed for hours while listening to this book. I now feel a bit like I have ADD and can't focus on writing a synopsis, booktalk, or review of the book. Carter is any & ever guy (freshman or not) I've ever met... obsessed with girls, more specifically their bodies, but clueless as to how to interact with them. Being a teenager is tough, but thankfully Brent Crawford has given readers the ability to find the humor in it.

Carter Finally Gets It
Summary:
This is a realistic fiction by Brent Crawford, of a typical hormone enraged 14 year old. Throughout the book Will Carter looks for sex, love, and a way to fit in. He meets his first love Abby, who is on the drill team, and they get off on a good start. Though Carter soon gets in trouble when he cheats on her, with the once girl of his dreams. Yet another hilarious coming of age read skillfully narrated by the talented Nick Podehl. Author Brent Crawford doesn’t exactly reinvent the wheel with this one, but I’m a sucker and true fan of this genre when it's executed well and CARTER FINALLY GETS IT is funny, heartwarming and very well written.
William Carter is a fairly popular, good sweet loveable kid. Although he has ADD and a slight stress (and pretty girl) induced stutter, none of that is Carter’s real problem. So what i More...

This book is halarious,I can't say that enough times. The aurthor writes like a fourteen year old boy with ADD.Because that's what Carter is.I loved this book because it's fast, funny, somewhat ralatable, and Carters way of thinking is exactly what you would think a fourteen year olds mind would think. And it uses alot of lewd humor. The book dosn't give you a chance to know most of Carters friends (I know his enemys better than his friends)- and I love that. There is only one friend that the book stay

It's interesting to read "Carter Finally Gets It" and "Inside the Mind of Gideon Rayburn" within the same time span. Both novels attempt to get inside the mind of a teenage boy and find out what makes him tick. I imagine this is a valid concern for many teenage girls, trying to figure out what makes certain guys tick and why we act that we do. And while each novel concludes that guys are driven by one thing, it's interesting to see how differently each novel approaches tha

As Carter enters high school he seems focused on one thing: getting laid. Carter and his friends often demonstrate machismo by objectifying girls, exhibiting homophobia, and engaging in other un-PC behaviors. Despite this, the reader learns that there is more to protagonist Carter than meets the eye. Carter demonstrates sincere feelings for the love interest of the story, Abby. The means by which he attempts to impress her appear relatable to any teen. He joins the football team, he becomes a pa

14-year-old Will Carter is overwhelmed by high school. Girls have amazing distracting bodies. Sports are way harder than in the past, partly because the upperclassmen look like scary monster men compared to Carter and his gangly freshman friends. And speaking of his friends, it's majorly important that they think he's cool, so he won't mention the acting class that he loves.
