When you think about Darth Vader, many things come to mind. Dark Lord of the Sith. Bane of the Jedi. Throat-Crusher Supreme.

Emo?

Of all my complaints about the new trilogy, the biggest one has to do with how Anakin Skywalker was handled. I grew up loving Darth Vader. He was a vicious bastard, but by gods, he was awesome about it. He was a hard-ass who inspired terror wherever he went, and he was a man who overcame insurmountable evils to redeem himself.

He never said, "Yippee,&quo...more

It was a good book, but at the same time a little dissappointed in it. I read this right after Labyrinth of Evil and that book showed how he was turning into Darth Vader, this book (I thought) was how he was becoming a more powerful Sith. Well it wasn't. It seemed like he was too confused on if he should be bad or not. It was just a mix bag of good writing, then bad writing.

I liked how it showed how Vader couldn't move around so much and he would probably have to rely on other means of t...more

I bet that you think that this book is going to rule, don't you. Well, it doesn't. Not only is Darth Vader in less than half of the book, it is primarily about a couple of Jedi trying escape from the Jedi purge that the Emperor has put into effect. Worst of all, this is the book that says that the reason why Darth Vader cannot use Dark Force Lightening is because he has bionic arms. I personally think that a better reason would be because the Emperor was not stupid enough to teach Darth Vade...more

Before I begin to let everybody know out there I am a big Sci-Fi fan and love Star Wars, but don't love it to the point I become an Otaku geek.

Where to begin the book begins with the last few hours of the Clone Wars on Murkana in which 3 Jedis the two main characters Shryne Roan a Jedi Master who has lost his faith in the force and with him is another Jedi Master Choltak along with her apprentice Jolee Starstone fighting against the separatists before Darth Sidious' Order 66 turns the tables...more

I read all the Star Wars universe adult novels, and many of the young adult and children's novels, so they had my money regardless. I was very excited about this particular book being the first chronologically after Episode III, and the first to present Vader in his new persona. I was disappointed on that front, and also because Luceno's other Star Wars titles have been so much better.

It's not that Luceno makes any mistakes, it's just that he didn't capture my imagination this time. He wasn...more

If you're looking for good literature, with a classic storyline, well-developed characters, and snappy dialogue, a Star Wars book is not the place to start. If you want to read about a day in the life of a Dark Lord of the Sith, look no further.

Luceno has been given the enviable but fearful task of describing the first bit of Anakin Skywalker's life as Darth Vader. This is a period of time Star Wars fans have been waiting years to hear about. The storyline of the book itself is for...more

This books takes place right after episode III and documents the transformation of Anakin into Darth Vader. I was disenchanted with the story. It would have been a great chance to develop Darth Sidious and his relationship with with Darth Vader. However, the book focuses on Darth Vader and how hard it is for him to have his body burned to a crisp and stuck into an ulgy black suit. In short too much whiny Skywalker-ness. What's up with this family anyway?

This is OK. There are some interesting details about Vader's feelings in his new suit and his relationship with the emperor, but I thought this was a lot weaker than Labyrinth of Evil. I liked knowing that various Jedi escaped Order 66, but they just weren't that intriguing. Labyrinth of Evil is all about complex plotting and action--that seems to be more to Luceno's strengths than the weaker characterization in this novel.

For some reason it took me a little longer to really get into this one than the last one, but once I did it was fantastic. I don't think it was the book, more likely it was just me experiencing a lack of concentration (gee, that never happens...).

Anyhoo, loved it. I seem to have a fascination lately about how Jedi become Sith, this and Darth Bane definitely filled in some gaps for me. Highly recommend it.

I was really looking forward to this book and reading some really heavy stuff about Vader rising to power and being a total bad-ass, kicking butt and refusing to take names. Not so much.

Most of the book follows some random characters flying around and a couple of Jedi etc. It isn't bad, but I was hoping for something else. Quick read, so if you love Star Wars, then you can enjoy it for a couple hours.

I loved it. Learned a lot about Vader. And felt for what he went through. The suit that everybody thinks is so scary and cool is his bane. He hates it with a passion. His description of the way he moves, breaths, sees, hears, and feels in the suit is great. You can feel his hate for it. I would recommend this one for anybody who likes Star Wars.

For Star Wars lovers, this book is great because it fills in a little more. It takes place right after Episode III and gives more insight into Anakin's emotions after turning to the Dark Side and what happens to some of the Jedi. Plus it covers the capture of the Wookies on Kashyyk and covers how Obi-Wan learns that Anakin is still alive. I enjoyed it.

This book started out a little slow and focusing a bit too much on a few survivors of Order 66, but once that was out of the way, the pace picked up. Until we visited the survivors again. Through the first half or so of the book, Vader is still unsure of himself, but by the end, he's becoming the villain we all know and love. Or at least I do.

I go into a Star Wars book asking 2 questions.
1. Would this make a good movie?
2. Am I going to learn something about the characters that follow the timeline of the canon?

A resounding yes. Get through the boring first 50 pages about a couple of stowaway Jedi who survived order 66, and the good stuff begins.

Focusing on the events following Episode III, the author explores the mental state of Darth Vader. The author really "paints" the picture of Darth Vader and what goes on behind the mask. The story also follows some surviving Jedi struggling with their present and future in the dark times. Vader fans should read it.

Good book that adds to the Star Wars mythos. Some of it feels rushed. It's merely months after Revenge of the Sith, and Vader already knows how to do the Force Choke and throw his lightsaber? On the flip side of that, it portrays Vader's struggles adjusting to his heavy and clumsy suit. Pretty good overall.

Pretty good. You'll probably like it more if you read it right after viewing Revenge of the Sith, as it takes place right after those events. Didn't really care for the group of Jedi's storyline as much as I did Vader's. Has a good ending with Obi-Wan as well.

A vulnerable witness to Vader. This is a side of the Dark Lord that is rarely experienced as the plot drives you through the excursions of the estranged Jedi who perilously plod the universe to ensure their survival. Fluid read; fantastic discovery.

I am a Big Star Wars fan. Almost to the point that if a book isn't any good, I will still like it. I really did enjoy this book. I enjoy books that tell the back story and this does a good job for the very begining of Darth Vader.

To all the HATERS, may Vader choke you at a distance. To all the lovers, Vader IS the daddy of evil! This book is so dope, it even debuts Vader's infamous moves, ie, throwing stuff around, ripping the floors out from under you...
