I read the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan because both my husband and best friend had read them. The best friend highly encouraged me to read the books - my husband warned me off.

The warning is not because the books are bad. The first few, actually, are very good. Great character development, interesting universe for those who love fantasy novels.

The warning is because these books never, ever, ever are going to end. Ever.

There are so far 12 books (including a prequel that c...more

I’m going to give the same review to all the Wheel of Time books I’ve read because ultimately they all run together so much their distinctions blur. I read them between 2001 and 2002 and at first couldn’t put them down. Jordan creates a fascinating, well-designed and intricately detailed world and populates it with interesting characters. The plots are well constructed and alternate seamlessly between energy-packed action and fight scenes and engaging mystery and suspense. However, as...more

The early Wheel of Time series is (if you can get past the REPUGNANT Darrell Sweet cover art) is among the best the fantasy genre has to offer. I would confidently say this holds true through the first five or six books at least, perhaps even to a lesser extent seven and eight. Sadly (the late) Mr. Jordan’s vision and/or attention seems to wander by book nine, Winter’s Heart, and deteriorate from there in ten and eleven. In these last installments Mr. Jordan only muddies the waters by i...more

This third book was better yet than the first two of the series. However, Jordan is driving me nuts in the way he portrays his women. They are constantly folding their arms, scowling, and telling the men-folk that they are "wool-headed idiots" or "sheep-headed fools" or something along those lines. Frankly, I don't know why the men put up with that. Even Lan, who is essentially Aragorn, lifted straight out of Tolkien and plopped in the middle of this story, tolerates being tr...more

La bonne...more

After reading three of this book series I came to the conclusion that most of the characters are described as stubborn, bull-headed, or determined to accomplish or 'the Light Burn them!' So I became increasingly disenchanted with the series. I may try picking it up later but for now I have moved on.

What can I say ... loved it! I just found out that there are 12 books in this series. But the interesting fact about this one is that the author died before he finished the book! Luckily he told the story to his family and friends, so his son is going to finish writing it for him. I hope he has the same style of writing as his good ol' da did.

This book encorporated more characters into the story and explained more about them, which I liked. Jordan is always writing about the pattern weaving...more

Robert Jordan's books are very long. I am only somewhat ashamed to admit that I felt a certain gladness on hearing news of his death. "Finally," I thought, "The Wheel of Time series will end!" I honestly think he would have kept the story going forever had he not had his own life abbreviated.

Having said that, I am continually amazed at Jordan's ability to make literally every single bit-part character that walks across his pages have an important and key, pivotal rol...more

The third in the series and mostly this was concentrated on the people surrounding the main character, Rand Al'Thor. You hardly hear about Rand at all and instead get plenty of detail about his childhood friends and the cast that is taking part in the quest to save the world from the Dark Lord. Very interestnig to get a better look at some of the other characters we've been introduced to in the previous novels. Many new ones introduced as well, my favorites being the Aiel warriors.

Not a bad companion to the series. This book was more focused on the co-main characters like Mat, Perrin, Egwene, and others. You get a small glimps at more information of Jordans concept of magic and how it works, almost as if you are learning how to weave flows yourself.

Definantly think that some movie studio should take on this series and make them into a movie. There is a lot of artistic background and events to make a visually dazzling effects that would be more unique then todays mo...more

As the series progresses, the characters in the books become more life-like and heroic. Each of the books provides valuable insight to the next. As a stand-alone, any of them are a great read. When read in order, everything becomes deeper and much more enjoyable. Don't miss a single book!

I'm the fat guy running a marathon that struggles for 5 hours and eventually collapses on the pavement gasping, and only after being splashed in the face by a sympathetic support staff, realizes it's only mile 3.1. I tried, I really did, but knowing what's waiting for me at the end makes it hard to get up and push on; mile after mile of convoluted and verbose terrain, with the promise of a finish that will make every step worth while. But now I see the race organizer died before placing the fi...more

The third of the Wheel of Time series has A LOT in the way of character development. In particular, I found delving into the minds of the other two T'averen (Perrin & Mat) much needed as far as plot development. Mat was probably less of a favorite character, but as his own storyline developed - I grew more attached to the gruffness of his character.

With the introduction of new characters comes the Aiel - who have only been mentioned in the previous two books. As a group, they a...more

The book itself continues on in the Wheel of Time series. What I really liked about this book was the main charecters continued to become more dynamic and independent. Mat who I didn't care for in the first two books has really turned into a charecter I care about. His jump up to an adventurer/gambler was a much needed one. I was a bit disappointed that Rand's role was as little as it was considering the title suggests he will be the main focus of the book. Overall though the book was an enterta...more

I quite like the Dragon Reborn. There are bits here and there that I think could move a little faster. But I think that this book is really good. I think the part I like most about this book is the development of Rand, Matt, and Perrin. This was my second reading of the book. There are some things that I did not pick up the first time I read it. There are part of the story that I thought mattered little last time through that I now realize are very important. I suppose that is what you ge...more

Another great sequel in the series.

I'm loving this series. I've taken a short break, because I just can't put them down when I get them, and my family wants to see me again.

I'll get the fourth book in a few weeks.

Unfortunately, I was expecting another great book from Robert Jordan in this series and I was a bit disappointed. This book had a lot of travelling and running, but it became formulaic after a while and a bit tedious ....run..camp...something bad happens ...run...camp.. something bad happens... you get the idea. I really pushed to get through it because I want to continue on with the series and see what happens to these characters, but I'm really hoping the next one pulls me in like the first tw...more
