This was a wonderful book, a book that uses the metaphor of a crime to investigate the psychological mysteries of the detective. The backdrop of Seville during Semana Santa and of Tangiers after WWII heightened the intrigue.

"I thought that when my father died I would be pleased. It would be a relief and a release from ... It would signify the end of all these unfinished thoughts....Thoughts that have no ending. Thoughts that are interminable because they have no resolution. Thoughts...more

Hum...

the book itself had a lot of intrigue and I could not guess the ending but there was a lot of sexual content that I did not necessarily enjoy and because it took place in Spain it was difficult to keep up with who was who because the names were similar.

A slow burn of a novel that's tough to get into and never really picks up speed despite the gruesome crimes. Wilson seems like exactly the sort of author I'd dig, but this one doesn't give me much incentive to seek out more.

Always on the lookout for a new collection of detective stories to read. These are really well written and set in the beautiful city of Seville. Working my way through the rest of the Javier Falcon stories now.

DARK, and dragged me into the depths I did not want to go. Probably a better book than I rate but subject matter and not knowing Spanish, I was annoyed most of the time!
