The plot is about Artemis trying to find his missing father in the arctic with the help of the LEPrecon which are police of the Lower Elements. This becomes an issue because he is wanted for kidnapping a recon officer, Holly, and being the first one to successfully steal fairy gold. Will Artemis be able to save his father?

The first one got me hooked - but this one will keep me reading - Artemis finally shows a human side but on the other hand there is some good troll action going.

Very fun read. A junior Tom Clancy, plus a little of the magical-folks.

Having had such a unique and fun experience with the first book in the Artemis Fowl series, I wondered whether the second would fall into sequel syndrome or whether it would keep adding to an already lush literary world. And the result ... while it had all the same fun, clever, and exciting elements as the first book, there was one thing that it lacked: depth. Sure the premise was there: Artemis is trying to find his father, but the ending here did not redeem the story as the last one did. In th...more

Arctic Incident honestly surprised me. I was frankly bored by the first Artemis Fowl book, but on the recommendation of a friend, picked up Arctic for some light summer reading.
In the first novel, Artemis and Butler are pitted against Holly and Commander Root in a battle for Fairy gold. But in Arctic the former enemies join forces. The elimination (or at least stifling) of animosity made room for the Artemis' character development. While still an unrealistic snobby brainiac, Collier gave hi...more

Having eaten my way through the first book like a dwarf burrowing through loosely-packed earth, I found this one slightly slower going. My new favorite genius-millionaire-criminal mastermind is now a teenager and he's not as tough and full of brass as he was in book one.
Cut him some slack though, his mummy's back to normal, and ready to start trying to control his life, and he's just discovered that his dad is still alive, and being held for ransom by the Russian Mafiya in a nuclear submari...more

I didn't discover the delight that is the Artemis Fowl series until a week ago, when I read ARTEMIS FOWL in one day. So, of course, I had to pick up a copy of THE ARCTIC INCIDENT right away, to see if it was as good as the first. It definitely is, and in my own humble opinion, I think I liked it even better than the first book. There are points throughout the book where Artemis, now thirteen, shows a softer, more vulnerable side that I truly enjoyed. Don't ...more

Well, what a let down. The first book, while not a favorite, was pretty interesting. A friend and I decoded the message on the bottom, and I was really looking forward to reading the sequel. It took me FOREVER to get through this book. It is amazing that the two plot lines, which could have been interesting, actually lulled me to sleep while reading. I think the author tried to cram too much information into too short a story. The plots should have been seperated to be more fully developed...more

This is a fantastic follow up to the first book in the series! Taking place primarily in the Lower Elements (with a side trip to Russia), this book was action packed and a very enjoyable listen/read. It picks up one year after “Artemis Fowl,” and begins with Artemis’ quest to find his father. Still convinced that his father is alive, Artemis is doing his best and funneling large amounts of cash into every lead that might hint at his father’s whereabouts. When an e-mail message appears wi...more

This book is the second in the Artemis Fowl series with an elaborate twist where Artemis must rescue his father from the Russian mafia with the help of some unlikely, supernatural allies. The setting, to be exact, takes place at Haven City, Russia, Fowl Manor, and St. Bartleby's school for Young Gentleman with the point of view primarily being Artemis Fowl and Holly short, as in the first novel. The main characters in the story line are Artemis, Holly, Butler, Root, Fowly, Brian Cudgeon, and Op...more

I really like the Artemis Fowl series, but unlike my sister and husband, I do not think it comes anywhere close to being as good as the Harry Potter series.
Artemis Fowl Sr. disappeared when a daring escapade designed to free his family from their criminal--not to mention deeply lucrative--past and move the family's assets into legitimate enterprises went horribly wrong. Held captive by the Mafiya (the Russian organized crime syndicate) for over two years, he has been declared officially dea...more

Padah...more

As the second Artemis fowl novel, Colfer takes us back to her world of uber-technologically advanced faeries and the boy-genius with a slowly thawing heart.
"The arctic incident" takes on the matter of Artemis' missing father who is mentioned as being captured by the Russian Mafiya thus putting Artemis in charge of the fowl empire.
Overall the book does not disappoint at all.

"I more than likely will go and read the other Artemis Fowl books... but, I probably won't rush out to get them like I am for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."
That's what I wrote over two years and a month ago about the first Artemis Fowl book. As you can see I stayed true to my word and didn't rush out to get the other books, yet I still read them. Artemis, back for his second time around, is still one of my favorite characters. My absolute favorite of the book being a flat out three way tie between him, Foaly, and Julius. Holly is cool too, and she's a fast second.
This one wasn't, in my opinion, as captivating as the first, but I love it all the same. My bias is obviously in favor of Mr.Colfer. His is definately a refresher after reading all those mundane, enormous, dusty old books.

The second in the Artemis Fowl series.
While fun, it wasn't as strong as the first book. This book almost feels as if there were two different books that Colfer wanted to write, but instead, he crammed them together into one book.
Under the earth, the L.E.P.recon are about to experience a revolt, and they need Artemis's help to put an end to it. Up on the surface Artemis, who is still looking for his father, receives a ransom email, with instructions on how to get his father back.
