I can't decide if I like this series or not. I thought this one was kind of boring and I didn't like the tie-in with Jesse Stone.

Erin Flint is a movie star with perfect looks, but no acting talent. Now her manager is trying to break her into the men's baseball world and Erin wants a female bodyguard. When Erin's assistant is killed, she's convinced it's because "they" don't want her to play baseball and Sunny is pulled off of bodyguard detail to investigate the case. The murder occurred in Paradise, MA home to one of Parker's other protagonist's, Chief of Police Jesse Stone. Soon Sunny and Jesse have found t...more

This is a Sunny Randall novel but Parker manages to bring in Jesse Stone from the "Paradise" books and Susan Silverman from the Spenser series.
I keep thinking I'm going to tire of Parker's offerings but I never do. I read this in five or six hours while flying across the Pacific Ocean. Maybe that's why I like his books so much - they are humorous, quick reads containing mostly dialogue. His plots are rarely very complicated and his focus is often on relationships rather than a...more

I didn't like this Sunny Randall novel as much as the rest. It had way too many f-words and lots of sexual references, which I find offensive.

Well, I didn't read it, I listened to it, and it got me over the mountains and back on a trip to Yakima from Federal Way, WA. It's a Sunny Randall Parker, and I was uncomfortable with Sunny romancing Stone, one of Parker's other series characters, and seeking therapy with Susan Silverman, a character in Parker's first series about private detective Spenser. I kind of like the separation, you know? But it got me over the Pass twice without me obsessively brooding about the folks and their plig...more

Not a lot of action or tension in the book - I never feared for Sunny's well-being. I did like how Parker intersected the lives of Sunny with another of his characters, Jess Stone. I like them together and am curious to see how their relationship plays out. I think that as Parker gets older, he is more interested in analyzing what makes people do what they do than writing thrilling, fast-paced detective stories. I'm willing to go along with him since I genuinely like his characters.

ok, a little too sexually explicit for me, but ... the twisted thriller part was REALLY good. it was also neat to see Sunny and Jesse, the character from the other series that she resembles so much, in the same book to see how they interacted.
the next book is the last one in this series, or at least currently. will be interesting to see how the author ties it all up

It's typical Parker. A couple of hours devoted to his novella size books (eeks of you pay hardcover) is like watching a really good regular season sporting event. When he's on, you never feel "that could have been better" but you know the bar wasn't set that high. He's not an artist, but a master craftsman.

Another Robert Parker mystery. I never miss one. Love the way he writes. Short chapters, precise dialogue, interesting characters. This is not a Spencer novel, but features Sunny Randall, a female detective north of Boston. Always fun.

Sunny Randall is such a cool female private detective. In
Boston.
There is some connection to the Mob, both Boston & LA.
Her own love life is nicely integrated with the story of the client she is hired to work for.

sunny randal is a fun character and the book was interesting but her dog drives me nuts. parker is a dog lover and all his protagonists have one but the fuss over the mini bull terrier in this book is too much.

This was the first Sunny Randall book I read (though not the first in the series) and I loved it- I think I might like the "Sunny" series better than Parker's "Spenser" series!

Sunny Randall was funny but the characters were too bizarre for my taste, I guess that's Hollywood.
