A girl refuses to let fear overcome her when her mother is late to pick her up. Instead, her wild imagination leads her to think of whimsical situations like riding on the back of a turtle or flying with an eagle that may explain her mothers' tardiness.

Personal response: It is a sweet story about a Filipino preschooler who is not picked up on time by her mom. In order to calm herself she creates very imaginative stories about why her mom is late.
This is a common occurance at our school and children do feel abandoned. No matter how much we try to assure them that their parents will show up they panick. This would be a great book to read to our Pre-schoolers and kindergarteners in the beginning of the school year.

I read this book off of the International Children's Digital Library. This is a picture book for young students ages 5-8. It takes place in what looks like the Philippines. What a relatable book for young children! A young girl gets out of school and doesn’t see her mom waiting for her when she comes out. She starts to worry. She pictures her mom getting to school in many fun ways: swinging with the monkeys, riding on an elephant, etc. After her imagination has run out, she starts to cry. Her mo

This was an absolutely adorable story by Kristine Canon and illustrated by Mariano Ching. It is a story about a young preschool girl, who was eagerly waiting for her mother to pick her up from school when the bell rang. Much to her surprise, her mother was not sitting at the bench waiting for her, where she usually is. As she watches her classmates leaving with their parents, her worries grew bigger. Finally, when she was the only one left waiting for her mother, she let her imagination take her ...more

She sits on the bench and waits and waits for her. She begins to become afraid when she doesn’t come and all the other children have been picked up. The guard tells her maybe she is stuck in traffic. But the little girl lets her imagination run wild as she thinks of quirky ways that her mother could
