I have not been this taken with a book in a long time. An ode to Gilborn's mother's love of animals, it is the most wonderful depiction of a Kooky Animal Lady who at any given time owns 20 or 30 horses, some livestock, a motley collection of dogs and a few small wild animals, both exotic and local. This was an interesting book -not the most exciting or compelling book, but interesting. From the title, I expected more detail about the exotic animals that the author's mother raised, so I was disappointed in that regard. I was also somewhat appalled at the description of what some of the animals ate. The exotic's certainly had shortened lives due to the inappropriate diets they had. While I would not have wanted to grow up at Willowcroft, it would have been interesting to have known the ...more
