He's the media's darling, the fresh face of the Democratic ticket. But what does Barack Obama really stand for--and will his extreme liberal agenda and complete inexperience in global affairs endanger the country? That's what David Freddoso, investigative reporter and National Review Online columnist, examines in The Case Against Barack Obama. In this shocking exposé, Fred...more

I read this on my way back from Alaska in the plane. Very easy reading and extremely insightful. Please read this if you are having trouble deciding who to vote for. It will open your eyes!

Excellent overview of Obama's (lack of) change political career. All of the "change" he advocates is in stark contrast to his brief policitcal career. The book highlights many opportunities he had to evoke change at all ranks of his political career. In almost every case, Obama has voted "present" (equivalent to "no") or has voted along party lines. The book does not attack Obama as a person but rather serves to highlight the hipocrisy of his presedential campaign and his convenient lack of admi...more

Freddoso is a writer for the National Review online, and his conservative opinions are evident throughout the work. He doesn't hide his opinions, and even says his book may serve to endear liberals to Obama. I found the chapters on Obama's political connections and work as a local congressmen to be both insightful and fascinating. Freddoso puts many pieces together from local Chicago newspapers to present Obama as anything but a reformer. He gives concrete examples of Obama's refusal to stray fr...more

This book was not "pleasure reading." In fact, I felt sadness to realize that a person like Barack H. Obama, with such a pleasing personality and smooth oratorical and public relations skills, could have such a dark side. My impression agrees with the book jacket which states that the book is "sober, fair, and thoroughly researched. . ." Also, the introduction presents this provoking thought: "America will not end under a President Obama, but it might be a very different place from the one we kn...more

Anyone planning to vote for Obama, or still unsure who to vote for, should read this book. It is long on factual statements -- that can be proven true or false -- and short on editorial opinion. The author makes a convincing case that Obama's record does not match the image he has presented in his presidential campaign. He also raises the question of why the news media seems uninterested in challenging him about this mismatch.

This is indeed a sobering book. It gave me the same feeling Dick Morris' book Outrage gave me. The book is an indictment on the Chicago Machine politics, and the favors Obama owes and some that he has already paid on. I believe Chicago is the worst for corruption, but we have a real corruption problem in the United States.
Here is an example of what is wrong in the US:
"Michelle Obama's employer, University of Chicago Hospitals, raised her pay from $121,910 in 2004 to $316,962 in 2005, two months...more

This book was great--a little over my head at times (all that political/government/economic jargon can be intimidating and difficult to understand!!)but it really shows who Barack Obama really is. The great thing is that the author didn't say "Barack Obama is just a really bad guy." NO. BUT, the notion that Obama will bring change, hope, etc. to the nation is definitely unfounded, because, unlike the media and Obama say, Obama is simply the same old politician we typically do not trust. If not,...more

David Freddoso's book is not the mud-slinging Obama-bashing diatribe that one might have expected in today's polarized political climate. I found it to be a carefully measured examination of the common claim that Barack Obama is a reformer, a bringer of "hope" and "change." Because he doesn't overstate his case, at times I found myself wondering how the picture of Obama we were getting was any different from what we have come to expect from most politicians: a charismatic, opportunistic, ambitio...more

Excellent book, & not as partisan as you might think. This is not an anti-Obama book; it's not a pro-Obama book, obviously, but everything contained within is a matter of factual record. There is no speculation contained within these pages; literally, Obama's voting record & his associations in his professional life are demonstrated. And that is the point: examine the historical record of this particular politician to better understand who he is & what he represents. Even pro-Obama p...more

I expected this to be a real hatchet job on Obama, but it wasn't. If fact, the author dispelled a lot of the myths about Obama. For example, that he's a Muslim, etc. The author did go into Obama's relationships with radicals throughout his public career and how they were an important influence in Obama's career.

This book started out about Chicago politics and I thought what do I care about that but it documents just how Obama got where he is and it is important reading even if scary. The book is well written and very well documented.

I've given this 3 stars. That's an average of one rating for subject matter and another rating for writing style and content. Chicago machine politics has been unpleasantly anti-American since before Tammany Hall. Maybe political corruption is a curse on all big cities, I don't know.

When the parties of government do not cooperate, government seizes up. Calling competing parties "enemies" destroys cooperation. Too many people embrace an uncompromising Us-vs-Them attitude. Elitist ideologies exac...more

There's a lot about this man that calls for distrust and hardball questions about Chicago Political Machine, Daley et Al.

I haven't read it yet, but I believe he should be impeached for the outrageously irresponsible spending. Nearly 800 BILLION spent to create 1 million jobs and pay a shedload of overpriced execs. Not a good investment.

Obama says that he can unite the right & left, but it seems that his version of uniting is not stop talking until everyone agrees with him. If he was a centrist, he would have NOTHING to do with Sotomayor.

Irresponsible government spending cannot cure irresponsible private invest...more

I would give this a 1 1/2 star if I could. The book is out of date now. Didn't tell much more than I already knew; it did delve into this radical community organizer's background. It was written pre-election.

The author states that if Obama is elected he doubts that he would actually take the country into communism. Now that we are sitting in 2010, it looks to me that Obama has a pretty good head start in that direction...

This is a must read for anyone who is seriously considering to vote for Obama. It may just change your mind or at least get you thinking as to why you are voting for him. Obama's rise in Chicago activism and his allegience to the "Chicago Political Machine" is particularly telling for a politician who touts himself as a reformer and champion of bipartisanship.

This was a very eye opening read. The author is a strong conservative so you know where he stands on Barack Obama, but it is not just a lib slam fest. I really found this book to be revealing of the type of person that our new president is. There is a strong warning in this book about what changes could take place with Obama as president. Not only a warning that was unfortunately not heeded, but a warning that most people never even heard. It was very interesting to see all of the things that we...more

An interesting book, especially in light of the Illinois "pay for play" investigations that are currently going on. Written by a conservative author, he nonetheless dispels many of the outrageous lies about President-Elect Obama, while delving into the serious questions that surround his quick rise to the national scene. Great discussions about the Clintons, Chicago and Springfield "pinstripe patronage," Obama's agenda with regard to taxes, abortion, judges, the Iraq War, etc., his campaign and...more

If most of America's media covered Senator Barack Obama with one tenth of the scrutiny and criticism applied to Sarah Palin...then perhaps more American's would know the case against him. David Freddoso ran against the tide and produced a book that deserved wider readership among the swing voters in 2008.
Josh
Written well enough, the author's allegiances are made clear, and he treats Obama, generally, with a great deal of respect; almost kid gloves even as he professes to treat him as less than the darling of the media - which Obama is, let's face it.

But a quick cursory glance at the argument disputing Freddoso's claims shows that this book misses even on the scant evidence it seeks to present. Hardly a damning account.

The one point to be taken from the argument is a valid enough one: Obama isn't the...more

It took me forever to read this, mainly because I read before bed and this book got me too whatever to go to sleep. How can you really like a book like this? I can't give it more than 3 stars because it's not fun reading, but it's important reading whether you like the guy or not.

Barack Obama is intelligent. He is a truely gifted speaker. I believe he is a good husband and father. I also believe he is intricately involved in the shady Chicago political machine and, like many other politicians, he says whatever he is supposed to say to get campaign funds and votes. When it comes to abortion, he is not liberal, he is so violently radical that it scares me. He is also, in his own words from a 2004 press conference where he stated he would never consider running for Presiden...more

A conservative pundits reasons why NOT to vote for Obama this is guilt by association. Outdated, since Mr Obama won the election, and admittedly biased. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Very well-researched. An interesting read about the rise of Obama and his political agenda. I think everyone should read this, especially those who are thinking about voting for Obama.

This book needed to come out much, much earlier than it did, and the people who need to read this book simply will not. McCain should just start reading passages on the campaign trail.

Too bad several million other people didn't read this before the election. Of course that's almost too scary to contemplate since we might have John McCain as president now. I guess the whole process was a lose-lose for the American people.

Too bad the press didn't do something like this before the election!

This is a very good book whether you are pro-obama or not.

I dont think a person can really know this man until they read this book. It will tell you his voting record and a lot of other information about his true views on things.

It dispels a lot of the smears and myths about Obama and through the author's careful research provides tons of information about who the man really is.

After reading this, I am VERY glad I did NOT vote for Barack Obama but it is also good to know he is not a Muslim or...more

My only complain is that the book wasn't scathing enough of that media whore President Hussein Obama.
