Talented Horsewoman, or Talented Detective?
L.C. Evans has a winner with Talented Horsewoman. The author has an uncanny knack for painting vivid, descriptive pictures with her smooth writing style. Her knowledge of horses adds realism to this amazing story of a horsewoman who plays amateur detective. The heroine, Leigh McRae, is a single parent raising a precocious little girl on her horse farm. Her ex-husband still meddles in their lives as she faces the everyday problems of raising ...more

Talented Horsewoman – Review by Martha A. Cheves, Author of Stir, Laugh, Repeat
‘I turned to follow Tinker’s movement, hoping she wouldn’t head back toward Millie. As I tracked the galloping form past the barn, a bundle of rags on the ground hardly merited my attention – until an instant later when I realized the bundle wasn’t rages. With a jolt somewhere in the center of my chest, I forgot all about the horse and stumbled forward a few steps. “Oh, my God, it’s Rita,” Millie sang o...more

Talented Horsewoman + Talented Author = Terrific Mystery, April 13, 2009
First off, I don't like mysteries much. I'm more interested in how people work out than who-done-it. This terrific book breaks the mold, operating on both levels: I got to watch a smart, spunky single parent work out the issues in her life AND figure out who murdered her friend. This book's heroine, daughter, and sister are engaging and real. I cared about them right away. The suspects swarm all over. I couldn't...more

I received this book through the Goodreads First Reads program, where promo copies are given away by authors (my copy arrived signed, which I thought was awfully nice.)
I'm embarassed to say that I'm fairly new to reading mystery novels, having only finished 4 or so, but I'm an avid Law and Order nut (and by Law and Order, I mean *all* varieties of Law and Order...SVU, Criminal Intent, UK, LA, plain, peanut, et al.) so it's not a huge jump.

LC Evans' "Talented Horsewoman" is a wonderful story, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good murder mystery.
The story's main character, Leigh McRae, lives in a small town in Florida. She is a single mother and divorcee to an annoyingly controlling ex-husband. When the story begins, she is on her way to meet a fellow horsewoman, Rita, at Rita's farm. She finds Rita, but unfortunately finds her dead. It is up to Leigh to follow her hunch and prove that Rita'...more

Talented Horsewoman introduces you to the world of Leigh McRae, a single mother trying to live a comfortable small town life with her young daughter. Both mother and daughter share a passion for horses and riding, something her controlling, demanding ex-husband refuses to understand or accept. A Light & Entertaining Mystery
I breezed through Talented Horsewoman, which I found to be very readable and fun to follow. The setting, story and characters of the novel bring you into a warm, inviting, and realistic world with everyday worries and struggles. The story then effortlessly takes you down a path where a possible murder has occurred. Various players surface, and you are never sure who amongst them carries what secrets and motivations. Dangerous circumstances hide in the sh...more

This is a fast-paced, exciting mystery with very believable characcters.it takes place around horses and horse farms and even if you don't dote on horses (like me) the information on them turns out to be very interesting. I ended up caring about those horses just as I did the characters! It's wonderful to see the protagonist, through the tragedy of a murder, find independence in her life. She's a likeable heroine, and there is a lot of humor in the book. It made for a very enjoyable read.
I love a mystery. I love horses. When I learned about this book, I had to have it.
It's one of those amateur sleuth mysteries that leads to all the potential "perps" but along the way, all kinds of potential dangers rear their ugly heads. This is about a woman & her Daughter, who have horses, and all the while she's mourning the loss of her dear friend, she's being threatened with the loss of everything she loves, by her ex.

Once I got into the 3rd Chapter I was hooked. I'm a horse owner and this book was written for both horse owners and non horse owners so you didn't feel dumb or too smart about the horse parts of the story. I love a horse mystery story, reminded me of Dick Francis's books, with this book making LC Evans sort of an American modern version of his writings. Looking forward to the series!!! A great "who dunnit" read!
I found the main character very annoying, and kept reading only because the book had such positive reviews. I wouldn't recommend it.
