gara - gara bosen baca Charley, akhirnya mutusin baca novel ini. ceritanya lucu tentang seorang penulis misteri era Regency dan tiba - tiba suatu hari dua tokoh utamanya yaitu Alex Blackely atau Viscount Saint Just & Sterling Bladder muncul di ruang tamunya. Awalnya Maggie mengira mereka cuma halusinasi dia aja. tapi kemudian mereka menyakinkan kalo mereka bener - bener nyata. alasannya setelah dua tahun hidup di kepala Maggie, mereka memutuskan untuk keluar dan tinggal bersama Maggie. The premise is that a popular author of mysteries with romance, is confronted one day, by the two main characters in her series. Enter, Alexandre Saint Just, or Alex for modern times, and his best friend, Sterling Balder. Both gentlemen are detectives from the Regency period now residing in modern days, Manhattan.
Being a world class amateur sleuth, a natural 'hero', and a world-class lover, Saint Just is having a difficult time adjusting, but nothing to what, Maggie Kelly is experiencing.

This was kind of a cute read. Heavily layered with mystery. I don't know if I want to read the other books in the series, I looked them up and am kind of intrigued on what will happen in the future with Maggie and Saint Just. There was a love triangle that was just introduced between the detective, Maggie and Saint Just and am kind of curious how it will play out. I was a little dissapointed and hoped for more to happen sooner in the first book to kind of hook me and then make me follow the othe...more
The year was 2002. It was coming up on the one-year anniversary of 9/11. I was looking for a light-hearted story to escape into. And I found Maggie Needs an Alibi by Kasey Michaels. I’d read Michaels’ historical romances, but this book was her first foray into a new genre—the comedic mystery. It was just what the doctor ordered. The premise was intriguing. The heroine, Maggie Kelly, finds herself accused of murdering her publisher. (How many authors dream of doing that?) Maggie’s allies in provi...more
I got sucked in, even though this is a mediocre novel with foul language, in which the author tries way too hard to be clever, and the characters are annoying. But the premise kept me reading, wanting to know how it would end. Maggie is an author of Regency-era mysteries, and one day the hero of her books, Alexandre Saint Just, and his lovable sidekick come, inexplicably, to life. They just appear in Maggie's apartment.

To sum Maggie Needs An Alibi up in one word, hilarious. This novel is truly brain-candy in the sense that it takes you on a murder mystery adventure with a Robert Downey Jr.'s Sherlock Holmes style detective, plopped into the modern world with lots of sleuthing, assumptions, and sarcasm.
The ne'er-do-well was an easy guess but that didn't matter since you read this novel more for amusement and adventure than the twist. I look forward to reading Maggie By The Book.

I had high hopes for this book - the premise (a writer's Regency detective character coming to life) sounded fun, but the writing was poor, the main character was annoying, and the plot was meh. I could see who the killer was in the beginning - very humdrum. It's too bad, because this is a series, but I have no desire to read another. In fact, I had to really force myself to finish this one.
An amusing story, kind of a cross between fantasy, chick-lit and mystery. The character of Saint Just did get on my nerves a little bit by the end of the book. This plot made me think of a movie (but of course I can't remember the name of it!) with Meg Ryan where a historical figure comes to life or time-travels to her world.
This was an impulse buy I made on the way to an appointment one day (as I knew I'd have to wait and didn't have anything to read!). Of course, I ended up not having to wait, and so the book has sat on the shelf. I recently read a Goodreads review of it that spurred my interest, and decided to give it a try. I expected a straight-forward romantic suspense story. But what I found was more of a goofball (in a fun way) mystery with a little romance, a little bit of the paranormal, and a lot of cheez...more

I loved this book , funny read. It dragged a little towards the end. Looking forward to reading her next book.
I was so excited about the concept of this book, but I found it strangely disappointing. For one thing, the mystery just didn't pull me in. For another, I really didn't like Maggie that much as a character. However, I did love the way her characters were written. Saint Just and Sterling were really funny as Regency men in a modern world, and their dialogue was a great. Those two alone might make me pick up the next book, but I'd really hope for a better mystery and a greater appreciation for Mag...more
