I'm a fan of Woods' Holly Barker and Stone Barrington novels. I've never actually read a Will Lee book but when I saw that Holly, Lance Cabot another character who should be familiar to readers of Woods were mentioned in the synopsis I figured I'd pick it up.

Do I wish I hadn't? No, nothing that extreme because it has its moments. The book's not that bad although the characters who I picked up the book for seem to be put into it as an afterthought.

There is A LOT going on in this book but it does...more

As the book jacket says: “President Will Lee is having a rough week.” It also appears he’s having a rough year or maybe even a rough administration. Although the prez seems like a really nice guy; honest, trustworthy and a man of his word, almost everyone around him seems to be lying, double dealing or covering something up. Luckily for the country, Lee is smart enough to keep all the balls in the air and keep the scandals from bringing down his administration. Although this is the first of Wood...more

The usually highly readable thriller from Mr. Woods.

President Will Lee is not having a good month. The Democratic Convention is going on and his renomination is secure of course. But his VP bows out because of cancer. In picking out a new running mate, it becomes a replacement as the VP succumbs to the cancer.

Then there's the incident in Pakistan where a Taliban/Al Qaeda group captures a missile base with atomic warheads. In the attack to retake the base, one missile is launched, exploding high...more

This is a really stupid book! I'm done reading Stuart Woods. The last several ones I've read have been awful. The only ones I've really liked have been THE CHIEF and a few of the books about the woman sheriff in Florida. The rest are crap!

First time i am reading the work of Stuart Woods. Though, a fast paced book of difficulty face by Mr. President of United States pre - election period and how by remaining poise and diplomatic he solves his problem. there were many characters added by the time I reached mid - book and by the end I had that feeling of incompleteness and felt that all the characters are loosely placed in one thread. Some parts of the book did actually remind me of the series of '24' where Mr. David Palmer the Pres...more

This was a decent book, albeit disorganized with numerous subplots that came to a very abrupt ending.

At the same time, the book kept me engrossed for the duration, and I enjoyed it.

I believe the 3rd plot was a setup for the next novel in the series, we'll just have to wait and see. The election results also remain a mystery.

I don't like the way Woods writes his dialogue. It's too "Beaver Cleaver" and people really just don't talk like that these days. I'm starting to wonder if it's intended a...more

Again, a half star option would be key but thems the breaks I suppose. I enjoyed this so much more than the last dozen Stuart Woods books. And yet and had all the same trashy appeal of those books but a break from Stone Barrington was most welcome. Here Woods focuses on Will Lee who is now president and all the shady characters around him. He also introduces a ton of new characters and manages to keep them all straight which is something so many authors just pooch. However, Woods has maybe the m...more

Not Stuart Woods at his best. The one thing I learned from this book, which I probably already knew, is there is not a politician who doesn't lie, cheat, manipulate, or cover up. The 3 subplots were so random and disconnected that I just wanted to get to the end of this thing. Of course this was my first Will Lee novel. I don't know where I have been that I didn't know about these when I have read and thoroughly enjoyed all of the Stone Barrington novels.

The president Will Lee has to face his nightmare. Terrorist have their hands on a Nuke. His wife who is the Director of the CIA keeps him informed as he must make difficult decisions on how to handle the problem while in the middle of running for his second term. Meanwhile the man he has chosen for his running mate has a secret that might ruin his chances for reelection.

Stuart Woods give this novel his best and I recommend it to anyone who likes suspense.

It is nice to read a book which has just been published in the last four months. It has been a while since I read a book by Stuart Woods, and he doesn't disappoint. This is a fast moving book, not terribly thick, but long enough to tell the story of problems faced and solved in the government of President Will Lee.

There are a few recurring characters from other books in the governmental series, but also some new surprising and treacherous ones.

The President is running for re-election, the Vice President dies the day before the nomination is made, a nuclear war head disappears in Pakistan and Teddy Fay is still around causing havoc. Does anything more need to be said? As usual, Woods has created a great and fun read with everything one could ask for in a thriller...and the continuing cast of characters just adds to it.

Read like a TV script; not much character development, although a continuing reader of this author & series will have built some impression of them already. Three plot lines, none of which is described in much depth, while one is resolved in a comic way, a second remains open, and the third has a weak end. Not as entertaining as some of his previous works.

I've read Stuart Woods for years and "like" reading his books. However, they are getting pretty predictable. President Will Lee is having a rough patch ... He is running for re-electiion, has probably picked the wrong running mate to replace his former Vice President, his wife, the CIA Director, is having another threat and guess what? Teddy Fay returns. What is a guy to do?

I listened to this one just recently after seeing that Woods has appearances by some of his most popular characters. I enjoyed it enough to hit the online library (which I do with all my audio books) and download all the others in this series by Woods, which coincides with his Barrington & Barker storylines.

This book was strange. All he did was try to bulid characters and build 3 different plots. He did a terrible job at both. I even read other books with these characters and I was a little lost. He had 3 different plots and never built up any of them. Then it ended. I think he forgot half of the book at home on his desk when he turned it in.

This book had all these subplots that didn't seem to evolve into much. It was extremely disjointed to me and then in the last few pages Woods ended all these plots quickly [which may have been the best thing he did for the readers:] as if someone just called him to dinner!

If Will Lee didn't have bad luck he wouldn't have any luck. Woods writing is a little light on plot. However Will Lee is one of my favorite characters, I read it as much to find out what he's been doing like a long lost friend. It's a quick read.

I'll read anything that Stuart Woods writes. This thriller is about President Will Lee and other characters that we know from other Woods books. It's just like dropping into an ongoing soap - most of the characters of Woods books appear in other series that he writes.

I can't remember if I've read this before. Parts seemed familiar, but that might be because there's a certain sameness to Stuart Woods' books. I find it sort of depressing that all the people are so corrupt or corruptable in these books.

It was an easy read, it flowed. No big mystery and even the stolen warhead didn't seem like any big deal. I don't keep up with this Holly Barker series so the only question is does this Teddy Fay character show up in other books?
Gary Smith
Not one of his best works. This was an audio book and the reader was not the best. Don't think I'll listen to another audiobook read by Carrington MacDuffie, at least one which the primary characters are male.

Stuart Woods is the master at intrigue and suspense. He is also good at leaving the reader waiting for the next book. There are too many unanswered questions left open. Anxiously waiting for Will Lee, #8!

my first read of Pres. Will Lee--- typical Woods too much power too much sex Great beach read about rich and famous and powerful-- the women are either manupilative and stupid or maybe both LOLOL
Joe O'c
Very Good; Continuing character: Will Lee; running for reelection, Lee is presented with a variety of issues; gets a little confusing as characters go between various of his series

Usually Stuart Woods books are frothy fun--the foam on a cappucino. This one didn't have any espresso or milk to give it any flavor. I didn't care about the characters, the situations were contrived, and the solutions were hackneyed.
Connie
Too true-to-life for my taste...the vice president is a sex addict, the President is engaged in a cover-up, the CIA and FBI are handling damage-control. An adults-only read.
Patricia Gott
Author Woods should stick to his usually good murder/mystery books. He failed miserably to write this political, supposed thriller. I found it eclectic and boring.
Tricia Hock
Not one of Stuart Woods best -- There was a lot going on in this book and I'm not sure that any of the plots were ever resolved. Very disappointing ending.
Caroline
A Stuart Woods book. As predictable as an episode of Full House and just as stimulating. But sometimes I just need that on a random night to myself.
Rob Roy
Working my way through all the Stuart Woods' novels. Mounting Fears keys in on Will Lee as the president seeking a second turn. Other old friends, such as Holly, Lance, and even Teddy show up as well. Lots of the usual twists and turns. A fun read.
