Death By Latte
It was only a few weeks ago that Aphra Connolly’s life changed completely. She had been living a quiet existence on her father’s secluded island resort, until Seth Mulo turned up and stole her heart . . . and provided information that led her to find her mom in Seattle. But the reunion isn’t quite what she expected. Aphra’s mom, Natalie, doesn’t seem happy to see ...more

I loved how this book was intense, there was always problems that Aphra had to face. Her mom didn't seem to suprised with seeing that Aphra had come. To me, Linda Gerber made a point that it was inevitable for her to see her mother and learn more about her. It was mean how Natalie told Aphra to go back to the island, if that was me, I wouldn't really like that too.

The Death by... series never fails to impress me. And Gerber's writing style is constantly unique and original.
The book is in Aphra's POV. I was blown away at how Gerber completely perfected a teenager's point of view. I loved Aphra's character. She was both dynamic and realistic at the same time. I could really relate to her and her feelings about being lied to and her feelings towards Seth.

Aphra now knows where her mother has been for the past four years. She knows that she must go to Seattle to seek her out before it's too late, and her mother moves on to a new city.
When Aphra shows up in the markets looking for her mom, she doesn't receive the warm welcome she was hoping for. Actually, she's told to get on a plane and go back home, and treated rudely by her mother's partner Joe.

Maybe, if I'm feeling generous, 2.5 stars. Basically, I was pretty underwhelmed with this book. Aphra, our heroine, has just discovered that her mom's a CIA agent - or used to be one - and living in Seattle, so she buys a ticket there, lying to her dad, and goes to surprise her mom with a visit. Her mom's not happy to see her because she's in the middle of a mission and, as expected, Aphra's presence seriously compromises the mission.

Seriously, the CIA? When am I ever going to get a good mystery that doesn't involve any types of government agencies? It's like telling me you know your book won't sell unless you make it as James Bond as possible. The plot is soooo overused.
Unconvincing protagonist. I didn't read the first book, but just the name Aphra irked me. It sounds like Alpha. Too pretentious. I know it seems shallow to dissect a name, but Aphra does not match the character. She was quite dumb despite what i ...more

I should have read the first book in the series first, but I caught on pretty well. It was a quick read, but fun and action-packed. Aphra is a teenager who at the beginning of the story had just arrived in Seattle on a plane in hopes of finding her Mom. She has been out of Aphra's life for 4 years now, and Aphra needs to see her again. So when she shows up at her mother's pottery stall at Pike Place Market, she is devastated to discover that her mother is not pleased she is there. But not for th ...more

I think some of you may know of my previous lurrrrve for this series, but if you don’t than I reviewed Death By Bikini in May. If you haven’t read the first book yet, than that might give you some background.

Aphra Connolly is back in another danger-filled adventure. This time, she’s off to find her mom in Seattle, something she’s never been able to do until she met the Mulos, the family Aphra’s mother swore to protect. But the familial reunion isn’t as happy as Aphra thought it would be. Instead, her mother seems cold and disconnected while her partner Joe insists Aphra be send home immediately. Plus, Seth Mulo, the boy she fell in love with when he visited her father’s island resort, show ...more
Ah, zeroing in once again on the Death By series. The first installment, Death By Bikini, didn’t impress me in any way, be it positive or negative. My mixed feelings were because, while the story was cute and competently written, the events were all crammed together making the pace in which I moved through the story feel fit for a race designed to render me breathless—and not in a good way. I mean, there’s tight writing and then there’s size-2-spandex-to-your-size-6-body writing.

Now that Aphra knows where to find her mom, it seems inevitable that she would go seek her out. And so she tells her father that she will be visiting a friend in South Carolina, but instead Aphra boards a plane to Seattle.

In a book it was very confusing at the begining cause the people weren't introduced very well and the plot was not very clear. The mom was very aginst her daughter in the begining but softened up after awhile. I really didn't like the mom cause she was mean and so was Paul this guy who was helping them aginst the mole (an evil guy aginst the CIA) and then there was betrayls and it went back and forth like he's evil no he's evil and it was dumb predictable and poorly written
Aphra is back and is reunited with her mom after four long years. In the original book, Aphra learns her mom is ex-CIA, and in this volume, Aphra learns that her mom is still mixed up in intrigue. Seth is back in all his hotness, but love can't save them from the crooked CIA agents this time. Things end peacefully, of course, but, hey, read volume 3 to find out what happens when Aphra has to move to France and change her name.
Another fun installment of the series. This book continues where Death By Bikini left off but instead of on a beach resort the action takes place on the streets of Seattle and the mountains of the Pacific Northwest.
I read a lot of mysteries so it is hard to keep me guessing. I was able to figure out who was who pretty early on. However, this did not have any effect on my enjoyment of the book.

The Y continuation of Death by Bikini as Aphra travels secretly to Seattle to find her ex CIA mom and has to go on the run from the CIA and some underground criminal organization that would like to see her killed and to steal a ring her boyfriend had given her. It's gotten pretty convoluted but someone who has read the first book, (which was better) might enjoy it.
A nice, basic, straightforward teen mystery with estranged parents, cute boys, and the CIA. The plot races along, sometimes skipping key events and descriptions, and characterization is less than stellar, but there is plenty of action and angst. While in no way the most riveting piece of literature, it is still a solid teen msytery offering.
I found it boring. I liked it enough to keep reading the series but it is just your typical mystery story. You would think you would make the first book the most interesting so that the people would want to read the rest of the series but apparently not. This is one of those books where you either love it or hate it.
this book is the next book after Death by Bikni in this book alfa meets her mother and finds out how caught up in the CIA she really is (this is really dangerose she meets back up with seth (awwwwwwww sigh) this book is filled with drama romancie action love and lattes it is a great book and i LOVED it
I haven't been able to read this yet which sucks,I read the first book but I let my classmate borrow it big mistake I never got it back.can u read the book in here??plz reply! Thanks :) I wish they would make this inti a movie it would be awesome I'd probly watch over and over again
Cool book. You should totally read it if you like the Gallagher Girls (I'd Tell You I love You But THen I'd Have to Kill YOu) series cuz this book is about a teen girl who has to solve this mystery thing... :D
My Thoughts:
I was procrastinating on reading this because the first book had bummed me out a bit. Now I see why the first book had to be that way it was. This second installment showed us the behind the scenes look that was necessary to understand just what was going on in the CIA during this time. I found the characters and the plot much more developed and was able to really connect. This was the first book in awhile that has kept me up all night reading. Was an okay mystery but I did not like the ending. It just seemed to stop rather than have an ending. I think the second book will have to be read after reading book one. I like books to stand on own and not need to read in order.
Don't think I'll continue with this series.
I'd recommend it to teen girls who like spy novels, 'Alias', and 'Veronica Mars'.

Death by Latte is by a good writing friend of mine, Linda Gerber. It's a sequel to Death by Bikini, a teen murder-mystery and espionage story set on a remote tropical island. The new book finds our heroine, Aphra Connolly, in Seattle tracking down her mother, who's been gone for four years. This book includes a lot of chase scenes that should be satisfying to action film aficionados; it also offers some touching character development after neither Aphra's mother nor her supposed boyfriend seem h ...more
Good mystery! Was a little slow at times but all in all a good read. This is the first book in a series.

The third book in this series "Death by Denim" was HIGHLY recommended by a Flamingnet reviewer.
A very quick read, this teen suspense novel has lots of action in a short span of time. Taking place shortly after Gerber's first novel Death by Bikini, we find Aphra bound for Seattle to find her mother. However, her mother is still working on the sly to find a mole within the CIA and isn't as happy to see Aphra. Their plans to return by nightfall for the first plane back to Hawaii fall short when her mom's partner is murdered. On the run together, Aphra begins to understand some of her mom ...more
I enjoyed the book, but there was some unnecessary information given. The book was so intense.
