There are some really good tips and anecdotes to go along with them, many of which are quite funny.

Liked it and easy to read. Loaded with stories and anecdotes which is better then just being told what to do. This book doesn't just cover how to be conversant but goes a bit into public speaking. I was mainly looking for ideas to improve in small talk with people or small groups. Got some help and ideas for this. Mostly common sense but still good reinforcement. Sometimes we need to hear the obvious.

This is not a good self-help book, contrary to what it's title suggests. Larry King takes his experience in radio and tv presentation, derives lessons that he himself learnt from them and presents them to the reader. As a result, "How-tos" are not presented in a very clear chronological way but rather a-la Aesop's fables. A quick read with some practical advice on communicating better. The big takeaway for me was how critical of a question "why" really is? When you ask for the reasoning you delve into a persons thoughts and feelings. When someone tells you their opinion, or an expression of love for something, instead of agreeing or disagreeing, ask why and it will help open the lines of communication.

Judulnya sih mengatakan bahwa seolah-olah buku ini adalah buku self-help tentang bagaimana menjadi pembicara yang baik.

Tips di buku ini akan sangat bermanfaat kalau si pembaca adalah orang yang bekerja di bidang komunikasi publik, jadi nasihat-nasihat buku ini kurang tepat kalau dipakai di pembicaraan informal sehari-hari.

So I listened to an abridged audio version of this book while traveling last weekend. I really enjoyed it. Larry King discusses his start in the communications business - and all that he has learned about communicating in his many years since. Things I remember most . . . I was struck with a little bit of envy - thinking about all the people he has interviewed and learned from - presidents, sports stars, business executives, etc . . . what a fascinating job that must be. This book definitely has some good stories and examples that can help or act as motivators to improve your communication skills. But the advice given is simple; practice often, prepare if need be, talk about what comes naturally and learn to feel confident while speaking. Just stating all those tips isn't enough. If you want the full effect of the lesson, I suggest you read the book or listen to the audio-book.
Larry King wrote that the basic of successful conversation are honesty, having the right attitude, putting interest in the other person and openness about yourself. I guess they are true, judging them from my own experience. He also stated things to say when you are talking with strangers - who are not your family or friends, what kind of questions you should avoid (because they could stop your conversation from expanding) and the first and the main rule of conversation - LISTEN. Useless book, does not live up to it's title. It is filled with Larry's self-promotion and name-dropping stories. Larry just tells us what a great guy he is, and how cool he is because he talked to all those important people, and all that in a fairly unstructured way. No actual advise on communicating, no "lessons" that you could expect form a king of interviews.

The title pretty much sums it up. I'm not a big fan of self-help books... but who's better suited to write a book on talking than the King of talk himself? Wonderful, practical advice and plenty of amusing anecdotes.
Good news for everybody who can't speak. These book help you to learn from Larry King - the man of talk show. He's sharing a lot of thing that easy to practice. Let's talk everybody!

I should confess that I bought the book with the hope to get some clues in interviews; however, I did not get as much as I had expected. Just skip it.
To me sales skills and effective communication are the same thing. There are a lot of great insights found in this professional communicator's book.

very very good book I like it so much, I enjoy reading this book. I consider it the first real book I had ever read.
Larry King shares a lot of stories from his early days in radio and television in this book. It's a great read!
so far, i just gave this book a 2-star rating. tedious.....but friendly and easy reading material

It was actually book about Larry King himself and his personal ethics and moral lessons in life.
Helpful strategies about talking to new people in forced situations (work, social events, etc).
