I reviewed two Foster books for the Fall 2007 issue of Prometheus, the quarterly newsletter of the Libertarian Futurist Society. Here is one of them. There is something about Alen Dean Foster's books that give me a luke-warm feeling. While I love the Transformers universe (and have been a huge fan since a child watching the G1 cartoon) this book fell a bit short in my eyes. It followed the movie very well, and the little tidbits that you miss in the movie made this book a nice companion piece to read.

I absolutely loved the film so when this book came out I had to buy it and read it. And I wasn't disappointed.
again, a decent novel with difficult material.
This is the most sexist book that I have ever read. Every time a woman is mentioned there is a remark about her getting a date. But the characters are nasty. When I think about the weasle-like unappetezing characters, I can't help but wonder if the author has a brain kind of like a transformer and only sees humanity as a means to an end: the end being to use and create more technology, the kind of technology that will ultimately destroy humanity because they get so enmeshed in it.

Recommends it for:
People who REALLY like robots...not people who only kind of like robots.
Shelves:

Basically this book read like the script for the movie. Often novelisations have extra info that either couldn't fit in the movie or would be too difficult to portray. Not so with this book. Overall a good read for hard-core fans (not hardcore fans) but I wouldn't recommend it to others.
