So here's what I want to remember about this book before I ever decide to reread it:
Pros:
~ Characters I enjoyed, who had their desires and were likable (or easy to dislike, when necessary)
~ A romance that was predictable but built well. It wasn't rubbed in my face, and it wasn't nonsensical.
~ Much more of a plot than I would have expected.
~ The palace was intriguing--I loved the way it was the only place that had modern technology, and no one quite understood it due to the confined nature.
~ I lo...more

I enjoyed this book at first, but it began to annoy me as I got further into it, and I think the problem came down to world building. The magic of the witches is ill defined, and as sort of a corollary to that, the character of Sophie is ill defined.
Okay, so there's this curse. The Fyne women can't know love, and if they do, their love will die before he's thirty. Sophie sets out to get herself pregnant because she wants children, but she tries not to fall in love. Of course, this isn't going t...more

What the back cover should say about this book but doesn't.
Bottom Line: Buy it
Sophie, lives a secluded life in the forest with her two sisters, because of the scorn of being labeled witches, and the curse placed upon their family generations ago. Sophie feels life calling her, and while her sisters have reminded her daily, she can never marry, she still yearns to feel the touch of a man upon her for the first time...and dreams of a man with green eyes. Little does she know, that man exists, and...more

This the first book in a trilogy about the Fyne sisters – all witches. Three hundred years ago a disgruntled lover cursed the family by saying that no Fyne woman would find lasting love. There had seemed to be a few husbands who died by their thirtieth birthday. Sophie’s sisters, Isadora and Juliet, have come to accept that they will never find a mate; but Sophie dreams of a green-eyed stranger, and when she meets him her whole life is changed. Kane is a rebel fighter and a wife and child is not...more
The #1 thing to know about this book is that there is quite a bit of sex in it.
Besides that, the story is not as bad as I thought it would be. The author sets it up for a conventional arc, but keeps throwing in unexpected loops. I have to give her credit for creating a legitimate story with a lot of sex, rather than a lot of sex with a story tagged on which these types of novels can sometimes feel like. The story was intriguing enough that I am going to try and find the sequel to see if it cont...more

I must stop being fooled by pretty titles and pretty covers, because they never quite live up to what I imagine.
That being said, this story was quite nice. The premise was interesting, I loved the idea of these witches and Sophie was quite a wonderful and strong character.. until (view spoiler). Kane himself was nice, though he had the same problem as Sophie. (don't read the spoiler if you don't want to k...more

I had wanted a fast, romantic read in a fantasy setting and while I did certainly get that, I didn’t expect a well written villain, sub characters with personality and opinions and a nicely put together plot set in a well thought out universe. There is romance, and mild sensuality (well, there has to be with the main character’s gift being fertility) but it does not detract from a well written story. This isn’t a deep epic opus, but it is worth a read, and I am getting the rest of the series wit...more
This book is the first one in the Fyne Withes series, and it really does make you want to pick up the second book "The Moon Witch". The series is about 3 sisters who live alone in a cabin in the woods, just outside a small town and are cursed, the men they love must die by their 30th birthdays.
Isadora, the oldest sister who is a powerful witch, has already lost her husband unexpectedly and vows to never love again. Juliet, the middle sister has the ability to see people's past, present, and fu...more

Really weak. I love romance. I love fantasy. I've read trilogies like it was my job. I am willing to overlook creepy cover ladies that look like soulless dolls. I should have been all over this book. But it was so shoddy in some places, ugh. Hard to get through.
Although it had it's ups and downs, the subplot with Liane was much more interesting, I thought.

I'm not sure I like the ending. Everyone got a HEA (or at least a HFN). Too easy. Everything worked out. I did want to see her fathers reaction to her, but oh well. I don't think I'll be reading the other two books in this series. I'm not sure I care enough about her sisters to want to read their stories, and I don't like her eldest sister at all!
This book was ok but it never really hit that level of good. It was a nice book to pass a rainy day with but I'm hoping the rest of the series improves some. The characters were ok but nothing new about them except for the secondary couple in the book, Liane and Sebestyen, they were actually more interesting that the two main characters.
Someone recommended this book to me and I ordered it from the library without knowing it was a romance. I read it anyway, because, hey, a girl needs to read a good mushy love story once in a while.
The romance was sweet, if part of a rather strange plotline. The plot kind of falls apart at the end, the setting is not very solid, and the magic is incoherent.

This book is about that there are 3 Fyne witches that live on a mountain. The eldest one is Isadora, the middle one is Juliet, and the youngest one is Sophie. The Fyne witches has been cursed since centuries ago that the men they fall in love with would not live past the age of 30. This book is about that Sphie met up with a rebel, and he gave her the gift of a baby. She blessed him with good fortune and they went their seperate ways. A few years later they met up again and the rebel (named Kane...more
I really enjoyed this book. This is the first book I've read by this author and I'm impressed. Its definitely the most original romance I've read in a long time. I really like that Ms. Jones doesn't coddle her characters. Truly bad things happen to them, just like in real life, and because of that I felt even more invested in their lives. I also liked that these books include not only the story of the three women and their future husbands, but other secondary but very important characters. Its l...more
Sophie Fyne dreams of a man coming to the mountain and sleeps with him. Now a year later he returns to find his daughter, who has been kidnapped by a spurned suitor. As Sophie discovers her power of fertility and reconnects with Kane, their journey to rescue their daughter may start a quest to end the Fyne curse, in which no man loved by a Fyne witch can survive.

I thought this book was just ok..... If I hadn't lost the book while half way reading it and decided to continue reading the second book of the trilogies, I probably wouldn't have continued the series in the first place. Lol.
I absolutely LOVED the next two books in the series. I don't know why but it was just better written and the characters more likable. The way she interweaves the three sisters' stories together is amazing.
Please give the next two books a try even if you didn't like this on...more
