From a blog post I wrote in 2006:

I readily admit my OCD tendencies and one of the stronger ones is that I hate putting a good book down until it's done.

Twelve Sharp is a good book.

I started reading around 10:30 last night and finished up around 1:30 this morning. I did look at the clock several times and contemplated going to sleep but sleep was not nearly as compelling as finishing the book.

Sometimes, series tend to get old and the characters stal More...

Again, I have only chosen one of the Janet Evanovich/Stephanie Plum mysteries to put here so as not to clog the shelf with all of her stuff. If you want to read some funny shit with fantastic characters and totally outrageous scenarios that only get crazier, check out Janet Evanovich. Her main character, Stephanie Plum, is an incompetent bounty hunter who is constantly being stalked, getting all kinds of nasty things in her hair, and having her car blown up. She is caught between two men: the More...

At first I was pretty disappointed in Twelve Sharp because it wasn't hilarious. All of the other Stephanie Plum novels were super funny.

I gave book #12 5 stars because of the following:
1. Stephanie used some of her Bounty Hunter woman power. She didn't seem so helpless and kicked a little butt.
2. We actually learn some interesting facts about Ranger. YAAYY!
3. Stephanie tells a certain someone she LOVES him, not just l-l-likes him ; )
4. An important charac More...

My absolute favorite of the series thus far! 12 is a wonderful balance of humor and tension, with a determinedly different plotline. I don't know how she does it, but Evanovich keeps this series fresh and entertaining with every addition.

I'll admit, I'm getting a bit tired of the Ranger-or-Joe debate. Mostly because I've never been a girl who loves the bad boys, so the attraction of bad-boy-Ranger does not entice - for me, it really isn't a question. Because I'm tiring of the " More...

This did not disappoint. The tension between Stephanie, Joe, and Ranger is better than ever.

Yes, they are formulaic. Yes, they are light. Yes, they don’t challenge you. Well, so what. They’re a lot of fun. I’ve read all of the Stephanie Plum series, and I enjoy the formula, the humor, and the zany family (Grandma Mazur’s passion for funeral viewings is hysterically the opposite of the revulsion most of us have for such events.) I sooo empathize with Stephanie’s father who is just trying to hold it together in the presence of Grandma Mazur, who, having shot the Thanksgiving turkey More...

First, I would like to say that a. I did not purchase this book b. I am suffering from jet lag induced insomnia and c. as a result of this insomnia I wasn't up to anything super intellectual at 4 AM so I thought I'd try the book my mom got for free at her company picnic in July.

Obviously I wasn't thinking properly, period.

I saw how bad this book was by page two (gratuitous descriptions of characters? CHECK over exposition CHECK fantastical plot/characters? CHECK) but kept More...

The perfect brain candy for a holiday weekend, and a nice reward after some intense weeks of school reading and writing. The Stephanie Plum series makes me laugh out loud - I think that's why I love it so much. (Well, that and the fact that I am Jersey girl who lives just down the road from Trenton.) I only read one of these books a year, and I purposely stay one or two behind the newest release so that if I need a good, funny read to pick me up, I can always turn to one of these books in a p More...

A crazy woman is looking for Stephanie Plum, Ms. Bounty Hunter and every auto insurance company's nightmare. When they come face to face, the woman pulls a gun on Steph and tells her she is looking for her husband Ranger. He, unfortunately, cannot be reached, since he is on some special case in Miami. And the next time Stephanie sees him, he's on the news. He's wanted for kidnapping. And murder.

Another entertaining Plum novel. Same colorful characters, with an addition or two. Lula re More...

I highly recommend going back to the beginning of this series and starting there. I stumbled upon the stephanie plum novels halfway thru the series and wish I had found it sooner. Each addition to the series is a treat....sarcastic witty humor...a heroine that can bumble around and eat consolation donuts but still look herself in the eye in the mirror and kiss hunky mysterious guys when she and her boyfriend are on the outs. LOVE this series....

Long story short, girl works as bounty More...

Warning to all Stephanie Plum lovers:

If you are between blokes or starting another zany diet this might not be the time to start this book.

Ranger sizzles with sexy male testosterone- As for Morelli, wow a super hunk with a heart of gold. Steph’s mom is whipping up more of her delectable delights even though Steph and Lulu take several journeys to the pastry shops, pizza parlors and Cluck-in-a-Bucket. Ladies, as I mentioned, this book is full of land mines for the weak at More...

I actually give this four and a half stars. It was really good.
The right mix of humor, attraction, dynamic characters, and not very predictable, like the last book I read, (non-Plum novel,) so I appreciated that the ending didn't totally go as expected. Since there have been books thirteen and fourteen released, its pretty obvious she doesn't die at the end. High Ranger factor in this one with a touch of Morelli tension, and I like that in a Stephanie Plum novel. Ranger is my man, the More...

Guilty pleasure. No brainer - just a likeable character in unlikely situations. Gun hating, gum smacking, sassy but clutzy female bounty hunter. Side kicks include nutty grandmother and ex-prostitute get into crazy situations. Witty dialog, with a love triangle between her cop-boyfriend and mysterious fellow bounty hunter Ranger. This will have you giggling out loud. Good beach read and happy endings. Have read all in series - looking forward to #13. I'm on the waitlist from the public libr More...

This is the twelfth in the numbered series about the continuing adventures of Stephanie Plum, who is still (as always) trying to make up her mind between Joe Morrelli, the cop who took her virginity behind the counter of the bakery at which she was working when she was sixteen (in response to which she drove her car up onto the sidewalk to nail him a few years later and broke his leg) and Ranger, a “real” bounty hunter, who is not the marrying type but is strong, dark, silent, dangerous, and mys More...

Twelve Sharp by Janet Evanovich
Audio book narrated by Lorelei King
4****

I had gotten a bit tired of this series so stopped a couple of years ago. However, when looking for a new audio book for my daily commute, I came across a couple of the Stephanie Plum series and decided to give them a go. I’m glad I did.

Stephanie is up to her usual adventures as a not-too-successful bounty enforcement agent. Vinnie’s out of town, so she, Lula and Connie are left managing More...

Bingo! “Twelve Sharp” is for me one of the best if not the best so far of the Stephanie Plum series.

Admittingly the book is not quite as funny as the previous ones, but the plot is brilliant and most of the characters have some unusual depth in this book.

First we have the mysterious Carmen following Steph and then Ranger turns out as a suspect to have kidnapped his own daughter. He becomes a “person” in this book with more background about him and emotions.

Security expert and bounty hunter Ranger is used to catching wanted people, but now he's the one who is wanted. There's a woman looking for him who claims she is married to him. He has another big problem - someone who looks a lot like him has kidnapped his daughter. His friend, bounty hunter Stephanie Plum, has her own problems. Even though it's her job, she's not particularly good at bounty hunting and each apprehension is difficult. She's also dealing with her grandmother's decision to become More...

Stephanie Plum is back at work being a bounty hunter, although it was a little disconcerting that her previous career break was not mentioned until much later in the book. The story starts off like many of the others in this series with Stephanie getting a new set of FTAs to chase after. However, Ranger takes off and a woman claiming to be Ranger's wife shows up to threaten Stephanie and follow her around to find Ranger. Through much digging, Stephanie finds that someone is impersonating Ranger. More...

I read this last year before I knew it was part of a series. Think I will enjoy it more now that I am familiar with the characters.

Yep. Much better this time. I laughed until I cried. Rooster-like Grandma Mazur in a rockband wearing a very low Madonna bra? Rubenesque Lula crammed into a flamingo feather dress? The best. Turns out two Ranger's aren't better than one, and when the real Ranger's life is in danger, Stephanie figures out how she feels about the men in her life.

Just like reading the complete works of Dickens, I am working my way through the epistles of Mistress Evanovich whose tomes cover a panoply of colorful characters in ye merry old New Jersey. And why not? I bought the complete works of Nathaniel Hawthorne at a flea market once and decided, since I then owned it, should read it. I didn’t make it though one volume (I think there were ten)—much better than Advil PM, it was great at sleep inducing. Dame Janet is a little more lively although, perhap More...

Twelve books to the series and this is as equally funny, action packed and charged as all the previous books.

This books takes on a different tack to the others in that it is not a skip that Stephanie Plum, our hapless but plucky bounty hunter heroine is having trouble. No, trouble this time takes the shape of Ranger's wife. Eek! Apparently she's upset because Ranger has cleared out her bank account and moved out to be with Stephanie.

The situation get worse though as Ranger hi More...

How can she possibly make a living being so bad at her job

Stephanie Plum is a hoot

Even when she is working she is looking to do as little as possible

But
<spolier alert>
She is the first to twig to the double Ranger and to take steps to help the actual Ranger

She is still conflicted about the 2 men in her life ... when she tells Joe that she loves him and then completes the sentence in her head 'and I love Ranger too'

Lots of strong action in this installment in the Stephanie Plum series, but short on laughs. I don't really like Evanovich's continued chipping away at the Ranger mystique: I preferred the early days when he would swing in, save Stephanie from a sticky situation, make a joke and a steamy comment, and leave -- the days when Lula would watch CNN to see what Central American country had a coup whenever Ranger left town.

Latest (for me) in the continuing fun story of The Burg and its equally fun characters. Couple ones are introduced; an exhibitionist who goes to work for Vinnie as a file clerk, and a new female bounty hunter with a mysterious past (the scenes of interviewing possible candidates for the mob are pretty hilarious and easy to imagine). This book mostly describes how a woman claiming to be Ranger's ex threatens Stephanie; turns out Ranger DOES have an ex and a child, and there's someone out there po More...

My ratings system is as follows. One star is GOOD. The book is entertaining, easy to read and you don't want to stop reading because something about the book is compelling you not to. Two stars is GREAT! This time the story is not only entertaining, but highly creative, unique, easy to read and hard to put down. Three stars is EXCELLENT. Here the book has all aspects of one and two stars, but now the book is thought and emotionally provoking. Four is AWESOME. This is the read that is not onl More...

First my three favorite lines from this book:
"Opps," Grandma said. "Someone step on a duck?" She farted again
See, here's where I was in trouble. Dessert was the base of my food pyramid! - said by Stephanie
"One Ranger is all you'll ever need." - Ranger

In this book we finally get to know Ranger. He tells Stephanie about his family, his back ground, and his daughter. Of course, there is still some mystery. Also in this book Stephanie is More...

You get what you expect with Janet Evanovich. If you've gotten this far in the series you're used to the characters and know their quirks. You're used to the sexed-up macho guys and Stephanie's indecisiveness. The saving grace for this series is that you do get what you expect. There's humor and a few episodes that have you on the edge of your seat wondering what's next. Of course, that's only for a little while until you remember that Stephanie's still stuck between Ranger and Morelli. Will she More...
