Jacques Chessex was a Swiss author and painter.

Born in Payern, Switzerland Chessex is a poet, writer and artist. He is among the most important writers who write in French. In 1973, he received international recognition when he became the first Swiss to win the biggest French literary prize - "Goncourt" for his novel "L'Ogre ". The same model was the first foreigner awarded the prestigious award.
