Was hooked with the first book in this series and this book, though it tears at the heart strings, has been the high point thus far for me.
The series is trying hard to show how natural the journey to the dark/sith side can be. It's a journey that started with Vergere's comment during the New Jedi Order (NJO) series--paraphrasing, there is no dark or light side just one force.
The fine line that the authors have been walking trying to show how a bright, talented and good hearted person (Jac...more

I always look forward to Traviss' contributions to this series. Unsurprisingly given her background, she writes about military life in a convincing way, and her depiction of Jacen Solo's gradual moral corruption and descent into the Dark Side is believable.
I never feel as if the lengthy sections devoted to Boba Fett and the Mandalorians are written for me. I'm positive that they're written for some Star Wars fan subculture that, like the Klingon subculture in Star Trek fandom, is dedicated ...more

This book culminated with Jacen making his sacrifice and although it infuriated me and made me hate Jacen's stupid ass even more I don't think the choice of characters to kill off was the best. The person he killed off has been one of my favorite characters for years and she wasn't particularly close to Jacen in any way.
But I suppose the sacrifice was good in the sense that he finally pissed off the wrong people and they are going to kick his ass for it in the next book...

This book actually made me enjoy Star Wars again.
Well, let me justify that. I didn't enjoy it all, specifically, the person Luke is when he is Master of the order, and believing in Jacen, but I suppose that's who he always was. Still annoys me. I hate that people can become something so total evil and wrong and justify it. These things however, don't make the book bad, just make me angry at the characters throughout.

It's hard to separate my dislike of this storyline from the actual book. If you're reading the Star Wars New Jedi Order books you obviously must read this but many plot points are disappointing. The book itself I thought was well done, characterizations were accurate, dialogue was fine. But overall, I just don't like where this whole series (Legacy of the Force) is going and the particular plot points in this book were just not what I wanted to read about.

Continues the chaotic decline of the Skywalker/Solo clan. I wasn't quite as upset about Mara dying as I might have been at one time - the NJO and the EU generally has gone so far beyond what I consider interesting that I find I don't care as much as I used to. Through most of it, I just wished Anakin would come back and smack some sense into Jacen. Come on - Obi-Wan came back as a blue ghost - why not Vader?

Not Mara Jade fans and the series not to anyone
I don't like this series very much. I think they don't have a good feel for the character Mara Jade, and I frankly don't feel that what happened to her character in this book would have happened as the author portrayed it. If her writing hadn't been so well done outside of that particular scene, I'd have given her 0 stars.

I couldn't put this book down during the bits that featured the Skywalker-Solo clan but I could have lived without Boba Fett and his people. This book goes back to the Mara Jade we met in the Heir to the Empire trilogy.

I actually liked this story. I love whenever they bring Boba Fett into the fray. Best part, though, was Mara Jade's death. Whenever someone major dies in the Star Wars universe, it is always huge.

Everything has come full circle. It's like a retelling of the fall of Anakin Skywalker but a lot deeper. Almost like a rehash but this tale seems to have bigger implications for the future.

The cardinal sin for a Star Wars novel should be that it is BORING. This one was boring, despite the fact that significant in-world events occurred. Thankfully I didn't buy it.

hahaha. yes. Sweet deaths abound in this book! a great pick-up read when you've been mired in too much existential hooplah of late.

To be such a pivotal book in the EU I found this one a little disappointing. The story just wasn't there.

Another CD book. I wish I would have realized that it was part of a series and started at the beginning.

not liking the turn Jacen is taking, here. I bit of a surprise on who he actually killed!
