True crime junkies looking for a good read
I have read many of Ann Rule's books and collections, and I have to say her writing can be very spotty. Some of her books have been pretty flat and just filled with pages of boring extraneous details. This one, however, is very well written.
Rule's reporting is excellent in this, and she uncovers details that really help to develop the characters and provide insight into this disturbing crime. The fact that it happened in my city - and I was able to actually drive down the street where it happe...more

this book was a shocker the whole way through. just when i though it couldn't get any worse, it did. after i read this, i called my mom and thanked her for not killing me. i couldn't get over the horrible pain this whole family has gone through. i think it made things worse that the children were my age. made me sick, but so grateful for my childhood.

I am a huge Ann Rule fan. I love true crime books and she nails the story every time. This tale is fascinating in every way. Both parents are Dr's and the mother descends into an unimaginable madness. Chilling, devistating and a great read.

One reason I wanted to read this book was because I enjoy true crime, but the other is because I used to live in Prairie Village. I moved there a few years after the trial, so there was not much news about itby then, but I wonder if the doctor worked at the hospital where I worked? Makes me wonder who my neighbors really are!

True crime book that will let you sleep at night. But a unique story you won't forget. At the time, I lived within a mile of the family.
