Reading this book was a chillingly surreal experience for me, even though it is a TRUE story of murder in the mid-60's. In junior high, I snuck this one off my parents' bookshelves and read it in short, secretive intervals, which probably heightened the eerie feeling that is conjured up every time I think of this book and the twisted double murder plot. I'll probalby re-read this one at some point so as to be more focused on the second half which deals with the trials.
Another one pulled from the senior citizens' pile. But, hey, he did a great job w/Helter Skelter. Can't go wrong w/Bugliosi.

OK, I had to deduct a star for Vince going on & on about how he strongly believes in the death penalty. Of course the book is only 30+ years old, so maybe he's been enlightened since then...

People who like books about crime, true crime lovers, people who love the law
This book read like fiction. It is very hard to believe it is a true story. What an incredibly scary insight into the mind of a criminal.
As an attorney, this was also an incredible book to read because of the details in it about how the attorney (author) prepped for this trial.

I am going to to school for Criminal Justice, naturaly I like to read books that involve true crime. I abseloutly love this book. I havnt been able to put it down. I encourage people to read this book... it will blow your mind away.
Bugliosi, amazaing author, as well as lawyer who writes excellent novels on his cases he covered in real life. He was the prosecuting attorney in the Manson trials and also wrote the book Helter Skeltor.
This was the horrific tale of a murder solved by Bugliosi, the author and the subsequent trial. Very disturbing as I read it very young and it impacted me for some time.
Too dated and dry. We've become so inundated with shows like CSI and law shows that the explanations on how the law works is actually pretty funny.
by this point, this guy was more caught up in his ability to research than writing a great book.

Great writng by Bugliosi...very detailed but worth the read
Vincent Bugliosi is the king of circumstantial evidence.
Bugliosi prosecuted this "no fucking way" LA crime of passion before he blew the world's mind with Helter Skelter. You probably know your thing related to true crime - this one, because it was written before posters for serial killer "comedy" shows were placed indiscriminately throughout the city, has some class and restraint - but not enough to keep it juicy.
I learned that people can be damned fucked up in this life when money and lust are involved. We knew that...more

Reads like a murder mystery.

A case based entirely on circumstantial evidence. Alan Pallinko and lover, Sandra Stockten conspired to kill her husband and his wife for the insurance money. Vincent Bugliosi prosecutes the crime and writes of the case. Very interesting to see how the pieces come together
Good true crime but not as good as In Cold Blood and Helter Skelter. Was interesting how he convicted them without any direct evidence.
Is there any other better true crime author then Vincent Bugliosi? Answer: No one is even close! This is my third Bugliosi book and I couldn't put it down! How he convected two people of murder with no physical evidence is amazing! He is so awesome!!! The story is crazy and I can't believe this is true, how nobody has made this into a movie is beyond me. I loved this book!
Good opening on on this book, though I think the co-author penned the beginning and not Bugliosi. The Bugliosi writing style didn't seem to land until the trial begins I the story. My only complaint is that it seemed to ramble a bit. Not twisting as Sea Will Tell or other Bugliosi books. Still I would recommend the book for true crime enthusiasts

My expectations were high because I had finshed Helter Skelter and wanted another compelling, well written story. I got some of it, not all of it. I got the well written part but story was not compelling to me. It is something you can read on your way to work not in a diner for 3 hours as I did with Helter Skelter.
This book details a true crime that happened in the late 60s. THe story is told by the distric attorney who prosecuted the suspects. The book got really slow in the second half when they began discussing the issues around the trial. It totally lost my interest and i didnt even finish reading it.
I guess I'm a little twisted, because I love true crime books. This book is a fascinating tale of a real life murder mystery and the masterful lawyer, Vincent Bugliosi, who prosecutes the accused. This is the third book I have read by Vincent Bugliosi, and I love them all!
This is a book I read years ago in high school. I had to read it again, because the house the murder took place, my mother's good friend lived/lives at the same exact address. I remembered she once told me; at the bottom of the basement there were spots with fire residue.
Re-reading this one after 30+ years to see if I get more out of it as an adult reader.
Definitely liked this book even better after this second read. The second half of the book (trial) was captivating. No one prosecutes better than Bugliosi!--just ask him! :)

I liked this book as much as Helter Skelter. The people Bugliosi writes about in this book are scarier than Manson because Manson looks crazy. On the outside the subjects of this book seem normal. Good and fast read.
A True mystery that kept me reading late into the night --I couldn;t put it down. Bugliosi is a briulliant criminal lawyer and an excellent author--This was better than Helter Skelter which was a great book too.
I read this when I was WAY too young and it scared the pee out of me. It also takes place where I grew up which added to the fright. I loved it.
Especially interesting since this is a true story. The author was the prosecuting attorney.

What can I say--everybody needs a little true crime now and then. Or at least I do.
Very interesting, compelling. Great story telling....true crime, can't put down!!
Interesting enough, but nowhere near as good as Helter Skelter.
Excellent book on prosecuting based on circumstantial evidence.
