The Magic of Believing: The Science of Setting Your Goal and Then Reaching It
Millions of success-oriented Americans have drawn on the no-nonsense techniques described in The Magic of Believing to achieve all their long- and short-term goals. Times may have changed, but ambitions have not, and Claude Bristol's tough-minded, hard-hitting message remains as fresh and focused as it was 50 years ago.

This book I chose because i was leaving the country and wanted some inspirational words to read. Its extremely outdated (the author was in world war one, and in the book the US hasn't landed on the moon yet...haha) which makes most of his refrences un-relatable to us today. the message is good though and I think he does make many valid points that I plan to use in my everyday life now. I'll admit thought that I skipped through it a lot because he writes example after example after example, its l...more
I first read the book in the mid-1970s. I have lost my copy and have ordered another one thru Alibris.com. I highly recommend it to anyone of high school age or older - even middle school if mature enough. It should be read sooner rather than later. Bristol expounds on the adage, "as a man thinketh, so is he." Keep positive thoughts and attitudes. Avoid negatives, especially when formulating goals, e.g. avoid "I will not think negative thoughts;" instead think "I w...more
Captivating self help! I worshipped Napoleon Hill but this book is even juicier, more intriguing and much easier to read and grasp. Ex-uni friend Tony loaned it to me 15 yrs ago, just shortly after i finished reading Think & Grow Rich which was gifted from another friend. It hyped me up for the genre. Since then i've embarked on an infinite journey of over-spending and under-budgeting for parapsychology/metaphysical/quantum physics/mind body soul books. Wonderful!
A little interstitial reading…. This one is a rather superficial gloss on the "Law of Psychic Phenomena" by Thomson Jay Hudson. Always good to be reminded of the mechanics of Mumbo-Jumbo so as to avoid being caught in others'. The crucial point is how to best influence yourself. Bristol provides a few tips.
Self help book on becoming successful in life. Rather outdated but still not a bad read. Some ideas worth pursuing. Apparently from my research this book was used by many old Hollywood stars, like George Burns who swear by the book and credit the book for their success.
“The person with a fixed goal, a clear picture of his desire, or an ideal always before him, causes it, through repetition, to be buried deeply in his subconscious mind and is thus enabled, thanks to its generative and sustaining power, to realize his goal in a minimum of time and with a minimum of physical effort. Just pursue the thought unceasingly. Step by step you will achieve realization, for all your faculties and powers become directed to that end.”
This book is a bit dated, and a pretty slow read. The ideas the author sets forth ring true; writing out and setting your goals, putting up photos/pictures of your goals, visualization of the accomplishment of your goals, and speaking to your subconscious mind about your dreams and aspirations all seem to work towards making your dreams come true. Believe = faith = success.
Very powerful and thought-provoking book. It will change your life. Deals with the power of belief and how your beliefs change your life and have supernatural power.
There are some great ideas in here. Unfortunately, I think Bristol gets too bogged down with anecdotes, which really slows down the reading and makes it borderline tedious.
Can't even remember when I read this book, maybe 1989. I still use his visual technique for lofting something to the garbage can and other targets and IT WORKS!
Great book.
Less than two hundred pages so a quick read.
There were a few simple points but a lot of stories to back them up. Very uplifting and practical.

The techniques in this book are life skills that can be applied to all aspects of life: parenting, club participation, school, business, and social situations!
This book reviews the power of the subconcious mind, the art of mental pictures, and the power of holding on to positive thoughts.
بس قصص .. كتاب يحمس الشخص ان يعمل .. لكن ما فيه معلومه !
how you become what you contemplate.
why hard work alone aill not bring success.
why hard work alone aill not bring success.
one of the best sellers.....not my stuff !
Same principles explained in Napoleon Hill's books. The approach is a little different. If you are willing to read this with an open mind it should change the way you manage your thoughts and pave a way to positive change.
I guess believing is the secret...
This was so incredibly boring and dated that it consistently put me to sleep after about five pages.
Old school auto-suggestion, good cultural study read about WWII and slightly post WWII American mentality - there are a few truths hidden in these oxidized pages.
Confidence in yourself is a powerful motivator.
An old classic about positive affirmations effecting your life. This is the book that propelled Liberace to be a superstar. (The younger people are saying, "Who is Liberace?" :)
Recommended by Phyllis Diller.
This book was originally published in 1948. The version my dad has given me was printed in 1969...I'll let you know how it is.

I just couldnt get into this book, I found Byron Katie's books to me more inspiring. This one was tedious.
