This book has great graphics and had me drooling after just a few pages. The advice/instructions are extremely brief-to the extreme. The medical ones are lacking at times, but I am a nurse, so I am critical. Tourniquets should only be applied as a last resort and only for 15 minutes. To the point where no pulse not felt, below the tourniquet. There are other options not covered in the book, the Red Cross and other Emergency courses do. Again, this is a book for the graphic lovers out there, and i...more

i bought this for the teen non-fiction section because it got on the ALA top ten quick picks for teens list. i have no idea how it got on that list. though it is graphically pleasing, none of the "how to"s actually provide enough information for anyone to carry them out. for example, should i want to (168) treat myself to a home facial, i am instructed to combine avocado with unidentified brown stuff in a jar that has brown blobs on the label. instructive, no? furthermore, since they're trying t...more

indespensible reference meets coffee table book. this book has TONS of how-to gold from the commonplace (frying and boiling eggs) to the extreme (delivering a baby in a taxi), from the plainly useful (sewing on a button) to the impressively flashy (popping a sweet wheelie). It covers making stuff (weaving friendship bracelets), eating stuff (wrapping temaki sushi), drinking stuff (pairing, opening, and and removing cork bits from wine), having style (mastering the windsor knot), loving (spooning...more

ZOMG! This book is freakin' amazing! Get it, you need it for living.

Fabulous and informative! This book has it all!

Show me how shows the readers via colorful storyboard illustrations how to do 501 different activities. Activities are broken down into areas such as home, "go", survival and more!

Examples of activities include: sew on a new button, make a no-sew denim skirt, flirt with emoticons, flirt with verticons, lace a corset, tie the Texas rope handcuff (I would call this hog-tying), repel backyard pests, attract friendly critters, meditate for inner peace,...more

Wow--I was surprised by how much I liked this! A lot of step by step instructions to perform tasks from the mundane to the never-in-a-million-years variety! In particular, I liked the sections that focused on crafting (potato stamps, origami roses), and the sections that focused on food. (The diagrams that define cuts of meat, and the ones that show what types of wine go with what types of food are invaluable!)

My only caveat, and probably the only thing preventing it from a 5-star review is the...more

Saw this mentioned on an RSS feed and thought I would check it out. I would place this book firmly in the the category of 'edutainment'. It's basically a book filled with infographics on things that you may or may not ever need to know. Some useful, such as treating burns or injuries, self defense moves, or cooking, some maybe useful, such as magic tricks and dance moves, and some downright ridiculous such as how to trick radar systems with a fake UFO or how to breastfeed. Who is reading a book...more

Show Me How is basically an instructional reference guide that teaches interesting, and sometimes particular, life lessons. Everything is told in pictures and infographics step by step. Look and learn, I guess that's the goal of this book.

There are lessons covering almost all aspect of life, from making stuff to parenting to surviving in a jungle. You'll most likely learn a new thing or two (hundreds probably) from this book. There are 500 things featured.

Found this book at a discount book store and it is worth so much more than the price asked. There is hardly any text in it and is mostly a pictorial guide book- with tutorials on how to wrestle a crocodile (not so helpful), spoon without the uncomfortable arm positioning (yet to try), cut a mango to how to look dashing in a suit. The guide is very concise and for some things such as building a koi pond, you might want to refer to a more detailed book but it is a humorous and informative guide ne...more

I wanted this book more for the illustration and design and I wasn't disappointed by either of those aspects. Additionally, I was pleased to learn a few things that might actually be do-able, as opposed to some of the far-fetched examples they have in the book (like how to snuggle with a hedgehog or wrestle and alligator). Although I liked the book, I doubt most people would want to OWN the book - probably worth a flip-through or two for most people.

brilliant book. another 'must own.' i should make a list of 'must owns' since as a librarian i'm pretty picky about 'buying books' though i admit to buying some just because the holds list is too darn long. like, i just bought the new maeve binchy. probably not going to be a 'must own' but it was a 'must have immediately.' i'm like that.

anyway, this is a must-own mostly because it's a how-to. let's call this review the 'hyphenated review' shall we? but it has sweet, simple pictorial guides to ju...more

I have the Hallmark version of this book, which has fewer things and is entitled "Show Me How: Instructions For Surviving Everyday Life In Style." I couldn't find the exact book on Goodreads, and it would not allow me to enter it, either. I would like to get this edition, too, if it's as neat as the Hallmark one - which is chock full of cool things. It's a fun book!

YAYYY!! i love this book, my uncle bought this book for me,first think this book is useless but.. when i finished read, WA!! i love this book! VERY USEFUL.. this book provide enough information for anything.. and my best part is (189) find my zodiact love match ahaha.. and (260) create the ultimate tree house.. so, no more reason to not like this book ^^v

Great graphics but there is not enough detail included for it to be genuinely instructive. More for fun and eye candy. Good to have around though as an interesting coffee table book or to show kids to inspire them to learn a few useful skills, but would tell them to look up a how-to video online for further reference.
Donna
A fun reference that uses mostly pictures with a few words to teach you how to do everything from identify different styles of facial hair to unclog a toilet. Due to their brevity, most of the instructions are more entertaining than actually useful, but it's a lot of fun to flip through and is full of ideas.
Laura
A book where I love the idea and the fun of it, but the actual content leaves something to be desired. In my opinion, none of the instructions were clear or detailed enough to actually be useful instructions, something that needs to be sacrificed in order to keep top the airplane safety manual style. While nothing was "wrong", the experts involved saw to that, they were "incomplete" enough that I would not take any of these instructions seriously, and just look at it as a fun art type book.
Nancy
What a fun book -- really easy, visual grasp the essentials of stuff. How to shoot a stealthy spitball, fold a shirt, patch a hold in drywall, pretty easy. Some, though -- skateboarding, lassoing a calf, rip a phone book in half -- good info, but doesn't get me there.
Nancy
Clamber out of an ice hole, do the worm, read my date's body language, stop bleeding, pick up a rabbit.
You don't really read this amazing catalog of what humans do, you hang out with it, ideally with others, so you can decide which kind of mustache each other should have.

What I learned from this book? Everything. And its entertaining. Want to know how to make a stamp, wrestle an alligator, fold your clothes, survive a fire, make love, you name it - it's in here and cleverly illustrated. Good bathroom reading material.

Absolutely love it!
Instructions regarding every situation you could come across in life no matter how interesting your life gets.
And finally validation on the way to fold a shirt! Now I have proof that I have been folding a shirt the right way all along!

Fun. How to boost your wifi signal with a strainer! I don't know if it works. Some of them are useful (pick an airplane seat) some are a bit silly. Not worth buying, but definitely worth borrowing from the lbrary..
Meg
A quaint book with pictorial guides to completing an odd assortment of tasks, from folding clothing to making out to roasting a tarantula. It's light reading, and some of the pictures are bound to stick with you.
Onellyantie Chuah
Colorful step by step illustrations. Instructions range from basic crafts, food & drink, clothing to survival! A very handy book to have in a household!

Can't wait to get the second volume!

Want to learn to tie a cherry stem with your tongue, "stencil stealthily," and make a wallet out of playing cards? Look no further than this AWESOME book. I will be checking it out again.

Interesting concept but could use a little more information for each subject. Got thru it in 5 hours cover to cover and did learn some cool stuff!
Michael
The illustrations are great, if sometimes a little hard to figure out. The book has definitely led me in the right direction on a number of things.
Lu
Very helpful and informative. Some of the techniques are oversimplified but it provides a basic knowledge that everyone should have.
Belinda
There is so much information in this book, all illustrated like those graphics on air safety manuals, ranging from how to boil an egg to how to catch a fish with your bare hands. Very useful and entertaining (even if it's a bit information overload)
Amelia
I agree this is fabulous. I keep going back to it over and over again to learn how to do random things.
