haha so i started on this book at like 1:00 AM out of boredom and...i couldn't fall asleep
the storyline's basically like Adrienne telling Amanda, her daughter, about her lovelife 14 years ago after the divorce that made her swear to never love someone again.
Paul is also a divorced man, but it was his fault that his wife left him...because he was WAAAAY too focused in his work, even his son hated him >:O that's really saying something...so he was working as a doctor when this lady comes in...more

I am a big Nicholas Sparks fan. In fact I thought that I had read all of his books, but then I saw the movie preivew for this book (soon to be movie) and was excited because it was another Sparks book that I hadn't read. However, this is my favorite of his novels that I have read. I have come to love Sparks for the twists and turns of the plot in his novels mixedd with a highly predictable setting and characters. This book wass ho-hum. It's short and I literally read its 220 pages in one day, it...more

Nicholas Sparks is such a wonderful story teller. I started this book last night at 3 AM when I couldn't sleep, and less than 24 hours later I was finished. I couldn't put it down!

The sweet, secret romance that took place between Adrienne and Paul was so romantic. Just about every woman dreams of the whirlwind romance that is portrayed in the novel.

That said, I felt this was more like a short-story than a novel. It was over too quickly, and I felt that there could have been more t...more

I think this is my least favorite of the Nicholas Sparks books. I find it quite interesting that it's been made into a movie. Still, I'll go see the movie, simply because - no matter how bad the book - I always have to see the movie out of pure curiosity. I hope the movie is a little more captivating.
Anyway...the story was somewhat enjoyable and it was a sweet little romance. I just felt it was a bit idealic for me. You know, lonely middle-aged male realizes his life isn't as fullfilling ...more

Update: Finished on the train this morning! It was sweet, and I really appreciated the message that Sparks was trying to send (you'll know what I mean if you've read it but I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't!). I feel like I've always understood what he's been saying in the past but this time I feel like it meant something a little more. I really think the book was very short and the story seemed almost rushed but then at the end they kinda dragged it on when there was really no need...more

The book, "Nights in Rodanthe" by Nicholas Sparks was very good. It left me wanting to read more each and every time i put it down. This book was about a woman named Adrienne Willis that hoped to find peace at a friends inn after her husband died. Almost immedietly after she got there, a huge storm hit, and a man named Dr. Paul Flanner arrived. Paul was in Rodanthe because of a meeting he had with a client after he did surgery on his wife and killed her. Both Adrienne and Paul were ver...more

I don't know why I attempted another Sparks novel. I think my friend told me to read it and I had previously trusted her knowledge of literature...until she recommended Twilight...but I digress. One question: why are all of Nicholas Sparks' characters out of the ordinary and incredible people in one way or the other? They're flawless, perfect, super-beings from another realm. In other words, they're unrelatable. Seriously, the protagonist in this novel had this back story: grew up on a farm with...more

By reading A walk to remember and then The Notebook, i decided to check out another Nicholas Sparks novel called Nights in Rodanthe [plus i heard it was going to be a movie, so this time I wanted to read the book before I see the movie.] Once again, Sparks knows how to write a sweet love story about two middle aged [late 40's early 50's] people named Adrienne Willis and Paul Flanner who fall in love when they thought that love would never come their way again. Paul, who is a successful surgeo...more

I had never heard of this book, but saw a preview for the movie adaptation, starring Diane Lane and Richard Gere, which is opening in theaters on September 28th. The movie looked really good and, being a big Nicholas Sparks fan, I had to check out the book.

I did like it, but of the half dozen or so Nicholas Sparks books that I've read, I think this was my least favorite. The love story seemed a little too convenient, a little too contrived, and perhaps a bit unrealistic. I did shed a tear o...more

A bit better than A Walk to Remember, but still not entirely my cup of tea. The genre of mushy romance is fine, but I just can't completely get into his writing style. It doesn't make me wish I could keep reading when I have to put the book down. And this may seem odd, but I personally had a hard time when he was writing from Adrienne's perspective and describing how she longed for Paul when he saw his jeans stretch tight around his legs as he sat down. It's just weird to know that I man wrote a...more

I only read this book because the movie is coming out next month starring one of my favorite (ok 2 of my favorite Hollywood stars) hollywood stars Diane Lane. I actually bought the book for 1 dollar at Half-Price books and saved it for a few months, so I can read it closer to when the movie comes out, so it is fresh in my mind. Anyways, I had recently seen the preview for it again and just wanted to read it. After 2 days, I finished it. I was hooked. The love story in it its actually very good a...more

I decided to read this book because I saw that the movie was coming out soon. I figured it would be better to read the book before seeing the movie. The book was good, but a little slow. The book is about a middle-aged woman named Adrienne who meets a surgeon named Paul. They meet at an Inn that Adrienne is watching for her friend Jean. Adrienne is just getting through a divorce, while Paul is divorced and escaping his medical practice. The two come together and fall in love and ultimately awai...more

While grieving over her unexpected divorce, a woman finds romance with a man who lost his own marriage and good relationship with his children because of his over-dedication to career and success. The week long romance kindles a longer lasting love which doesn’t have the chance to develop because what was supposed to be a temporary separation is made permanent through tragedy.

Turning a romance over a few days with strangers into something that is supposed to be love is too much of a stret...more

To prepare for the upcoming movie I re-read this book. I stayed home sick today and in between napping and blowing my nose I ended up reading it in about 3 hours.

Evertime I read one of Nicholas Sparks' books it leaves me with a contented feeling in my heart. It makes me recall all the happy times and memories with the love of my life. It provides me wtih a warm and fuzzy feeling that lingers for hours.

This book is no exception. Although a lot shorter than some of his other novels, it was...more

It was a complete coincidence that I picked this book off the shelf and then discovered that it's coming out in movie theaters. Did reading the book (and not finishing it) change my mind about seeing the movie? Only if they do the movie different than the book.

The book was poorly written. The back story was thrown at the reader instead of being in medias res and then was repeated as the characters were introduced to each other.

The dialogue was stilted and formal.

The book need...more

A quick, easy, enjoyable, light read. Good story, but some of it was predictable. Felt like Bridges of Madison County in some ways. Daughter's husband dies young. In order to get Amanda out of her depression, her mom, Adrienne, tells her the story of her weekend at Rodanthe when she met and fell in love with Paul. He planned on spending a year in Ecuador to repair his relationship with his grown son. He did that, but died in an accident. Adrienne goes on with her life, has 3 grown children, but ...more

So this book was just ok. I neither hated nor loved it. So "ok" fits pretty well. This just had way too much detail about mundane things that didn't matter. For instance, "they slipped off their jackets. Adrienne hung hers on the coatrack beside the door along with her scarf; Paul hung his beside it." Do we really care where they hung their coats???? And many other needless details.I think this was one of his first novels, and his writing seems to have gotten better because I...more

This book sucked. Sorry all you Sparks fans! Don't mean to offend, but I can't believe a retired high school English teacher recommended it to me. Maybe they thought I wanted something "light". It was very True Romance in my view and his characters were sappy and overly sentimental and sweet. Nicholas Sparks has a great following, maybe I'm just too old to like romance books anymore! After I finished it, not sure why I did, I felt guilty that I could have been cleaning my bathroom w...more

I was sitting in a movie and saw the preview for this book which has been made into a movie. It looks really good. My friend just dropped this book off for me to read before we go to the movie. I enjoyed this book. I like Nicholas Sparks writing style. I particulary enjoyed the fact that the main character is an older, complex woman who find love and her true self again after a devastating betrayal and divorce. I was a little disappointed with how the book ended -- but overall it was a good read...more

Yes, I love really good romance novels and yes, this falls under that category, but before you gag, (I do frequently on cheesy romance Hallmark movies), this one had a twist and enough drama and unpredictability to keep it from being too mushy. The flaws in the main characters helped them become real, relateable, and of course, loveable. Gave it five stars for the drama/romance genre it falls in, not because it's the best book I've ever read. And yes, I'm partial to Nicholas Sparks.
