The inspiring story of one man's journey through extremes of light and darkness to reach a place where he can be a smile on God's face for many people. Confined to a wheelchair, Philip Ilott's life radiates the compassion of a caring God, despite overwhelming odds. Three and a half stars. Adrian Plass's biography of Reverend Philip Ilott, an Anglo-Catholic-Charismatic minister, is definitely worth reading. It is not a light read, with Philip's abused childhood forming a base for a life filled with emotional conflicts, severe illnesses and dramatic healings. The late Philip Ilott (d. 2010) probably does not have a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame, but I expect his heavenly mansion is representative of his life on earth.

The moving and warm biography of Philip Ilott - neglected, unwanted and abused by his mother, yet dearly loved by his grandmother. The book charts his life with all its struggles. Brilliantly written, without being preachy in any way. Often very moving. I last read it about six years ago, and found it well worth re-reading. Highly recommended.
