I love reading Hermann Hesse. I think he creates an atmosphere you can really feel, and does it in a way that’s natural and easy to read. In the first story, “A Child’s Heart,” Hesse describes the guilt and anxiety of a kid who’s just stolen something. Two days after reading this story, I had a dentist appointment. No matter how mature I pretend to be about the dentist, I still feel like a sweaty mess in the waiting room. And, as I suffered there, I realized that this was only a slightly more in ...more

The story Klingsor's Last Summer flows like water into your mind, put aside the absence of plot as an old artist lives through his last days. I have always been a Hesse fan, whether its Damien or Narziss und Goldmund, yet here in this novella is one of his greatest works. I first read it obliquely as a teenager, sitting under a tree with an apple, when I started the story it was a sunlit afternoon, when I finished it the light was darkening and the apple was uneaten. Somehow in the way it is wri ...more

"Hayatın ağacında
yaprak yaprak
düşüyor baş döndürücü rengarenk dünya,
nasıl da doyurursun,
nasıl da doyurur ve yorarsın,
nasıl da sarhoş edersin!
Bugün ışıldayan
Yarın sönecektir.
Yakında rüzgar
Kara topraklı mezarımın üzerinde
takırdayacaktır,
Annesi küçük çocuğun
Üzerine eğilecek.
Onun gözlerini yine görmek isterdim,
Onun bakışı benim yıldızım,
Başka her şey silinip yok olabilir,
Her şey ölür, seve seve ölür.
Kendisinden ürediğimiz
ölümsüz anne kalır yalnızca
Oynaşan parmağı
adımızı yazar geçici havaya."

This book contains three stories by Hesse:

-A Child's Heart (4/5): A story of a child's guilt after stealing some figs. It's an excellent story - see my full review here.

-Klein and Wagner (2/5): One of those vague, dreamlike stories that I tend to get bored reading. Klein is on the run after embezzling some money and leaving his family. He wanders around, identifies with a mass-murderer Wagner, hooks up with an attractive dancer called Teresina and contemplates suicide.

-Klingsor's Last Summer (3

I honestly wouldn't recommend this to newcomers to Hesse. However, if you are in any way already a fan of his works, these short semi-autobiographical stories will enlighten and please the reader.

STUNNING. Contains three novellas "A Child's Heart", "Klein and Wagner" and "Klingsor's Last Summer" - all three amazing.

"Yaz göğündeki sevgili yıldız" diye sesleniyor kitabın bir yerinde, Klingsor Edith'e ve devam ediyor;

In the final stage of his life, Hermann Hesse chose to live in Montagnola in the Italian-speaking Swiss canton of Ticino. This choice was in keeping with his practice of living in beautiful places offering panoramic views. The fabulously situated house that he purchased from an architect overlooked Lake Lugano.

Hesse was enamored of Montagnola because it combined elements from other places he had visited, such as India, Africa, and Japan. Inspired by the natural beauty of Ticino and seeking anot

It was a great pleasure to read Hesse once again. In college, I loved reading all of his best books. I had never read this one before. It contains three stories of varying lengths.

Story #1 is the shortest: "A Child's Heart." About a boy who sneaks into his dictatorial father's room and can't resist stealing a few figs. The result is an agonizing guilt complex until his father finds out.

Story #2 is "Klein and Wagner" about two names for the same person.

Story #3 is the title story about the fin
