One of the really first great novels I'd read. I picked it up in my family's library while in Junior High and saw a quote: "Do you hate cops? Read the New Centurians. Do you like cops? read the New Centurians?). Definitely. Wambaugh is a master storyteller and the NC is filled with drama, adventure and authentic characters who laugh, become angry and often weep. You will feel along with them. A great book and a fine first novel.

recommends it for:
people who enjoy Los Angeles crime drama
Goes into detail how different personalities of men react to the police academy and stress. Sad in parts with Wambaugh's humor to give it like. Gives the reader a higher respect for our men in blue.

About three guys entering law enforcement in the sixties. Learned about cops. In the sixties. It was great. Retro. Emotional yet detached. Good story teller.

This is the ex-cop who turned to writing. I remember reading this as a kid and enjoying it tremendously.

The first Wambaugh book I ever read. It opened my eyes to the cop/crime genre. Enjoyed it thoroughly.
