The works in this anthology are organized geographically and include both narrative and non-fiction pieces by authors alive and dead, each being followed by a brief essay discussing the places described in the main article - how to reach the location, what is there today, etc. Most of the selections are well written and entertaining, and the commentary, too, is interesting for the most part. It has been far too long since I have been to Ireland. This book has tugged on my heart once again to go there...I just can't stay away. Along with the country and history itself, the irish literature has always been close to my heart; from the poetry of yeats that we all learned in High School to long forgotten Irish tales that seem to pop up every once in awhile....this book brings us back to that.
