i had to throw this one out the window.

i read the preface and then proceeded to chapter one, which was basically a re-wording of the preface. i didn't finish the first chapter ... after reading a few repetitive paragraphs, i began to read the topic sentence of the following paragraphs. he has one idea and he repeats it ad nauseam. (why is goodreads telling me i am mis-spelling nauseam???)

life is too short, my dears.

Learning about New York City slang had a welcomed side effect of also learning various bits of New York City history that doesn't always make their way to the history books.
