Vampire Beach Bloodlust is a supernatural mystery, set in Malibu, California. Alex Duval makes you feel as if you are there with the main character, Jason, as he tries to begin a new life in Malibu.

Jason Freeman and his family moved, at the end of the summer, to Malibu, California from Fraster, Michigan. Jason was hoping for an adventure, what he got was more than he hoped for.

When Jason goes to school he notices all the kids looked perfect and unreal. He describes them as having: “dermatologist...more

*REVIEWED FOR PUBLISHER*

Jason and his sister have just moved to Malibu - to a town full of rich kids whose lives revolve around money, fashion, cars and parties. Jason gets swept along by the excitement and is flattered to be included - and also very flattered by the apparent interest of the stunning Sienna. But these rich kids hide a dark secret and soon Jason finds that their parties involve a little more than the usual alcohol and music! When their secret is revealed, Jason has to decide if h...more

Jason Freeman has just moved to DeVere Height, Malibu where, at his new high school he befriends the in-crowd kids. With invites for the hottest parties and the seal of approval from the popular kids things seem to be well for Jason.
But when the body of a girl washes up after one off-the-chain party, Jason starts to question what really goes on in the homes of the elite.

Reasons why I like this book...

1. I like that this book is told from the male perspective. All of the other vampire books tha...more

This is a book which is aimed at teens/young adults yet still manages to entertain and hold the attention of older readers too. This is a really easy, quick read but there's plenty packed into the pages to make it a solid story.

Vampires seem to be 'on trend' at the moment and there are countless vamp books out there to choose from, for anyone on a paranormal kick, but Vampire Beach - Bloodlust (which is the first in the series), has enough differences from those other works to make it seem new....more

I’ve read the first three books (out of 6) available in the “Vampire Beach” series. And while they do have continuity from one book to the next…they are relatively short and no one book seems to stand apart from any of the others, thus far.

The story centers around a family from the suburbs of Detroit who has moved to a small, gated community in Malibu, CA. The main character, Jason, befriends the police chief’s son, Adam, in addition to some of the “in” crowd. While at a party given by one of th...more

This was the best vampire book I have read. Nothing like any other books. Jason moved from Michigan to Malibu because his dad got a great job. Now they moved into devre heights. A gated community for the rich. He couldn't believe it.
Starting a new school was horrible enough. Sure enough he was befriended by a guy named Adam. Showed him the in and out of school. Adam told Jason that everyone hangs out by 2 groups the heights and the others. Jason didnt fit the heights but liked the outcome partie...more

I liked this book, although it sure took me a long time to get to the good part, but I find myself engrossed in the world of Vampires of Paradise.

Vampire Beach is a catchy name, and considering the characters are extremely wealthy and spohisticated, they should be called Vampire Brats, haha.

Nevertheless, I give this book a four because:

1. Unlike any other vampire romance I've read about, the protagonist is actually a boy! And I rarely read a story through the eyes of a human boy character, esp...more

There seemed to be a lot of set-up in this book. Jason and his family moved across the country from Michigan to Malibu Beach, California. They move into the exclusive gated community of DeVere Heights, which also seems to divide the high school groups. More set-up comes from Jason's first friend Alex, who does not live in DeVere, and his developing friendships with swim teammates and fellow DeVere residents. Mysterious things happen at some of the DeVere parties, becoming very mysterious when on...more

I first got this book from the library thinking that it was something to do when i'm really bored....

But as soon as i read the first page i was hooked on it. I absolutely think that this book was worth the five stars i gave it

I like the way the author made the character Jason, an ordinary person fall in love with Sienna, a vampire who can do a lot better thatn him.

WHAT I LIKED: First let me just say that I am totally over the vampire craze, even if my students are not. Last week, I was shelving books in my library and I came across this one. Being in a middle school, I started wondering why I ordered a book titled Bloodlust with a large martini on the front cover. When I looked in Titlewave for reviews and grade level recommendations, there were...more

In this similar tale of love and vampires, the main character, Jason moves to Malibu with his family. He quickly hates Malibu while his family is completely overwhelmed by the beauty. As a Senior, Jason quickly finds his first crush in Malibu High. His crush is called Sienna. Even though she is drop dead gorgeous, there a two major flaws to her. The first one being that she is taken and secondly, she's a vampire! In his time in Malibu, he see's mysterious deaths that he connects to vampires. He...more

I love it! The main character being a guy was a breath of fresh air. And I've been a vampire fan since before the craze! It was an easy read and the writing was simple. But D...more

At school Jason is quick to make friends; Brad, captain of the swim team, takes him under his wing. Jason can't help but notice, and be drawn to, Brad's girlfriend Sienna. The only thing interesting about this book was that the main character gushing over the vampire was a male. Other then that I found the book to be completely boring and generic. Sadly I bought the next 4 books along with this one, so I'm going to end up reading them also. I'm pretty positive that they're not going to be much better then this one, with more random vampire parties, pretty vampires with no personality, and a school full of rich kids who's parents don't seem to notice what they're d...more

I really like the Vampire Beach series because you get the male perspective on things. I really read books that have a male narrator for the entire book which could just be because of the genres I prefer, but either way I fully enjoyed Bloodlust. So much so that I went on to quickly read the rest of the books in the series that were out at the time.

If you're looking for a vampire novel that is different from the rest - including the male narrator and a new take on vampires, check out the Vampire...more

Omnibus featuring Bloodlust and Initiation, both first published in 2006.

Then, the morning after one off-the-hook party, a girl washes up on the beach dead. There's no explanation - except a suspicious-looking bite mark on her body.

Jason Freeman has moved across country to Malibu, California and he could not be more excited. He can’t wait to hang out at the beach and meet alot of new girls. After he starts school, he learns the typical high school hierarchy where the popular crowd runs the school. But this elite group is a bit different from the normal cheerleaders and jocks. After a girl washes up dead following a party, Jason is even more curious as to what makes this “in” crowd so different.

I like vampire stories. If you've read any of my other reviews, you might already know that. Because of my prejudice, I dove into the first in the series of VAMPIRE BEACH books with high expectations. And I did enjoy it. Yes, it has some problems in execution, but more about that later. First the good stuff.

As BLOODLUST begins, high school senior, Jason Freeman, has just moved into an exclusive Malibu subdivision with his sister and their nouve...more

This book was about a guy who is 18 and moves to California. While he is there, he became one of the popular guys because of the rich place that he lived. He got invited to many parties but found a dead body of a girl found the beach after the day of the yatch. He discovered that vampires were living amongst them.
This book was very interesting, it gave me a thought that we can live in harmony with other creatures in our environment, because the vampires were just like human. I thought the autho...more

This book was very predictable. I am not good at guessing endings but this one I had it figured out long before the main character did. Also, it's one of those brainless teen books. I wouldn't have read the whole thing except that a friend loaned me the book and I feel bad not reading it. Unfortunately, she loaned me four of them from this series. I only hope they get better.

It wasn't super bad. I did give it three stars b/c it was still ok. I didn't hate it. It's just that it was very predictab...more

Well what a pleasant surprise..

My sister recommended this book and, later, purchased it for me. She said it's "A really good in-between book". (in between reading something a little heavy or deep) She was absolute-ly right.

A great teen read of course but with the twists and turns, from a guys perspective (nice change), it keeps you hooked. Who can you trust?

Its a well written story and keeps the older generations entertained also. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a little romance wit

This book is such a great vampire novel! I must be honest, usually I find it difficult to engage with a boy main character, but I could involve myself with Jason from the word go. This book is absolutely fantastic, I found it more exciting than the Twilight series, and more dangerous, and the love story aspect of this book makes it so much more worth it! I loved it

Vampires, are undoubtedly, cool and this book makes them like ten thousand times cooler, because they're basically rich, non-human-eaters (unless they get the dreaded bloodlust), insanely strong and beautiful... And then there's the humans, which also are cool.
If anything, the lack of anything uncool was the only thing missing.

So i bought this entire series in one go, granted I got really carried away. Because had have I stopped and read just this book, there is no way I would have continued on with the series.

I found the storyline and characters to be very bland and predictable, however I will give it points/point for being an easy read.
Kerry
I had read this right after i had finished the Twilight series and Vampire Bech, Bloodlust just does not campare to it. Not even a fraction! The characters seen too imature to be likeable, with their teenage hormonal imbalances for sexual contact! It just had no feeling. No meaning.
Leigha
I'm hovering around a 2.5 and a 3.

It was a quick read, interesting enough to keep me reading, but not something I can see myself really thinking about days later like I do with some books. I will probably continue the series, but I'm not dying to read the next one like I do with some series.

This was actually a better read than I was expecting. The story moved along quickly, the characters were likable, and the plot wasn't bad.
This take on vampire lore is quite different than what I am used to, but it makes for interesting reading.
