Totally a Nicholas Sparks formula, but I liked this one better than most. He at least waited until the couple knew each other for 3 weeks before hitting the sack together. It usually takes about 3 days, and happens immediately following their first kiss. I liked that they waited until they had kissed a few times, but really, can't he just hold off with the sex until they actually know each other? I'm still a Nicholas Sparks fan, though, because I am a woman, and I need my love stories. :)

A dear friend lent this book to me months ago, exclaiming I had to read it. Not that I need much talking round to read a Nicholas Sparks novel - I just have to be in the mood. So, I thought, when better to read the King of the love story/tragedy than straight after a wedding?
This turned out to be a good choice because this was such a feel-good book. It's about a volunteer firefighter and a single mum but really, it's about how love can rescue you from yourself. The relationships explored in...more

This novel is about Denise, a heroine, who is destitute and forced to live in her mother's old house. She's also the single mother of a handicapped child. Though she doesn't suspect it, she is on a literal collision course with true love. After she smashes her car into a tree and wakes up to discover the child missing, she finds deliverance in the form of Taylor, dashing firefighter and compulsive risk taker. Trouble comes, however, when Denise learns of Taylor's checkered romantic past. Taylor'...more

When confronted by raging fires or deadly accidents, volunteer fireman Taylor McAden feels compelled to take terrifying risks - risks no one else in the department would ever take - to save lives. But there is one leap of faith Taylor can't bring himself to make: He can't fall in love. For all his adult years, Taylor has sought out women who need to be rescued, women he leaves as soon as their crisis is over, as soon as the relationship starts to become truly intimate.

i only gave this book three stars so far because it just talks about denise, the mother, who's going balistics from losing her son, kyle, who is not retarded, but just has a hard time to learn
but yea, a lot of chapters going on about the search
on the plus side, its not like the other books nicholas sparks writes, like on how two people meet and...yadiyadiyaaa...though this is a bit more realistic :)

A sweet little romance novel about two people; Denise, a single mom of a little boy some learning issues. She went from doctor to doctor without hope. She's struggling and you get to sympathize and want to help her throughout the book.
The guy, Taylor, is charged with rescuing her little boy who can't talk and can't understand much of what is happening. Oh, he has to be rescued after a car accident, on a stormy night.
There were times when you wonder whether they'd find the child and the sus...more

I liked this book as much as I did the notebook. It isn't as romantic, but still it really pulls you in.
Denise Holden's life is a fragile mix of luck and hard work. A single mom of a speech-delayed son, Denise makes ends meet by moving to the small town of Edenton, North Carolina, and working the late shift as a waitress. This book was beyond amazing. The Rescue by Nicholas Sparks is probably one of my favorite books, of all time. It's a romance novel about two people; Taylor McAden and Denise Holton. Denise is the mother of a son, Kyle, who has severe learning disabilities. During a storm, the car skids off the road into a ditch and Kyle is nowhere to be found. Taylor is a volunteer fireman who has decided to search for Kyle on his own. After Kyle is recovered, Denise looks at Taylor as a hero, and it seems to h...more

I didn't like this book at all. The writing itself was OK, aside from a few "telling not showing" episodes, and an occasional duplication of the same phrase (ie, "roll in the sack"), but in general it is easy to see why his books are often bestsellers among people who like this sort of thing - but I didn't identify with, or even like, the characters.
I took the book out of a box in my department on campus. When people retire or leave the job for another reason, often when...more

I liked this book. It was heartwarming. It was about a single mom and her little boy. It starts off scary and then it rectifies itself. After that you are left with the story of the mom and this man who does something wonderful for her. She tries to figure him out and he tries to let her into his life. They each have a story that holds them back from each other. It was nice reading about how they get to know each other and how things turn out at the end. I won't give it away. Its a nice...more

This book was so good. I was just introduced to Nicholas Sparks by my sister in law Meg. I had never read any of his books, however I had seen a couple of movies based on his books, (i.e. "The Notebook", "A Walk to Remember") and I loved those. This book however was amazing. I couldn't put it down. It is a story of two people who's lives intertwine serendipitously after a car accident. Neither of them are looking for a relationship, but can't stop thinking about each oth...more

The Rescue was one of my favorite books, I love how Nicholas Sparks creates such realistic love stories. The relationship between Taylor and Denise was slow moving and a little rocky at the beginning but what love isn't? One thing holding Denise back from giving her whole heart is Kyle, her son, who has delayed speech. Denise spends her life trying to make it easier for him. Taylor seems to except that and does the same. Whey finally opened their hearts to one another and listen to what is unde...more

the romantic
This book is now #2 on my favorites list. Sparks writes very descriptively and emotionally about a single mother of a child with a speech impairment, Denise and a volunteer firefighter, Taylor. They are drawn together by fate and then the story takes off full speed from there. I can not remember the last time a book pulled at my heart strings the way this book did. I smiled, I chuckled, got a lump in my throat, and cried a couple of times. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for...more

The Rescue by Nicholas Spark is about Denise Holton who is a single mom with a learning disabled son named Kyle. One day, there was a really bad storm and she gets into an accident. Taylor McAden, a local firefighter finds her and her car, but Denise's son is missing. Taylor and a bunch of other firefighters and volunteers search for the boy for a long time and eventually find him hiding from the storm. The rest of the book is essentially a love story between Denise and Taylor. This is the third...more

Only the second Sparks book I've read, The Rescue is another tear jerker. I don't look for too much depth in books like this but it was an easy read and I enjoyed it. My only complain is.... Is it really realistic to have a good looking, SINGLE, contractor/volunteer fireman as your main character?

"'I don't want to lose you.' His voice almost a whisper. Seeing his haggard expression, she took his hand and squeezed it, then reluctantly let it go. She could feel the tears again, and she fought them back. 'But you don't want to keep me, either, do you?' To that, he had no response."
