Green Lantern is probably one of the strongest of the superheroes in the DC Universe. With just the power of his imagination and the use of his power ring, he can create whatever he needs to fight for justice. The Green Lantern Corps is an inter-galactic police force that has been set up to create order out of chaos and protect the innocents.

This is the story of how Hal Jordan, the first of the human Green Lanterns gained his ring and started his career in the Green Lantern Corps. Those famil More...

If you had told me six months ago that I'd end up reading Green Lantern, I would have laughed. BUT since that is true for pretty much ever comic series I've been enjoying lately (apart from Batman) that isn't saying much, I suppose. Let's just say I always thought a bunch of guys with magic rings flying around in space was kind of boring. Turns out it isn't. Oh well. Cases like this, I don't mind being wrong.

Thanks to Blackest Night, I came to like the Green Lantern Corps, and these More...

I have to admit, I didn't really think Hal Jordan's origin, and his relationships with Abin Sur, Carol Ferris and Sinestro needed revisiting again. Especially with all the momentum Geoff Johns has been building towards "In Blackest Night."

But I was wrong. While re-tracing a few steps of Hal's rise from test pilot to Green Lantern, Johns introduces backstory elements that reinforce his take on Hector Hammond, Sinestro, Black Hand and indeed the Green Lantern mythos as a whol More...

If you are looking for where to start with the current incarnation of the Green Lantern, this is the place. This is the beginning of Geoff Johns' fantastic reboot of the series. It stays faithful to the origin stories while updating them and sowing the seeds for numerous future storylines: the Red Lanterns, the Sinestro Corps and Blackest Night.

If this weren't a comic book storyline, I feel like this story would get the respect it deserves. Hal Jordan is-yes-a psychologically comple More...

This was a nice, more believable take on the superhero origin. Though I still love Emerald Dawn (the previous Green Lantern origin story), I can understand why DC would feel the need to come out with a new take on Hal Jordan's origin, updating, streamlining, and removing certain elements. Especially the desire to elimiate their big hero's alcoholism right before they start production on the Green Lantern movie. However, in streamlining the story they've also tied several of Hal's villians origin More...

As someone who had never read Green Lantern prior to Geoff Johns taking the reigns, Secret Origin was very helpful in offering explanations that were not present at the beginning of the series in Rebirth.

Not only are Hal Jordan's origins as Green Lantern of sector 2814 bought to light, the origins of several other characters are also explored, including Hector Hammond and William 'Black Hand' Hand. Also present is Abin Sur's discovery of the Blackest Night prophecy and the resulting More...

This book is about a boy named Hal Jordan whohad lost a lot of important things in his childhood. In his childhood he had a dream, a dream to soar through the sky just like his father(who is dead) used to do. He does acheive this goal, but he gets fired as a pilot. In another part of the galaxy a Green Lantern Corp named Abin Sur, had captured an alien, but it had made the ship crash on earth. The alien was able to get away. Hal noticed the crash and came to the scene. When he had got there he w More...

Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis are on auto-pilot retelling Green Lantern's origin story. There's some neat stuff, like new versions Abin Sur and Sinestro meeting Hal Jordan, and Pie Face not seeming like such a ridiculously racist caricature, and Blackest Night is becoming more and more ominous. At this point Geoff Johns can write most DC characters in his sleep, and this book feels like he's going through the motions, with only a little bit of momentum toward the next big space story. 2011#10

Being unfamiliar with the Green Lantern comics, I picked up this book hoping to change that. It wasn't until I was done with the volume - devoured in one sitting - that I realized this was actually volume 6 of the Secret Origin story arc. No matter, this was the perfect place to jump in and learn about Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps.

I don't know how well this re-boot sits with fans already familiar with the series, but the story had me hooked from beginning to end and the ar More...

I more Green Lantern I read the more I fall in love with the character. Johns really brings Hal to life for me in this trade, and while I knew Hal's basic origin (from New Frontier) this trade clarified a lot about him, his past, and the whole Sinestro thing. Now, I am under the impression that this is a retcon, or a not originally in continuity story, but for someone like me who knows little to nothing about Hal and the Green Lanterns this is a great introduction. Story 9/10, Art 7/10

When I read that this was Hal Jordan's origin story AGAIN my initial reaction was to groan and then put off reading it for a few weeks expecting it to be boring.
I was wrong. Green Latern: Secret Origin (Vol 6) is my favorite trade collection so far (of the Goeff Johns Green Lantern run). It does deal with Hal Jordan's origin, but covering aspects that haven't been covered before (they were SECRET). Geoff Johns' uses this new angle on Jordan's origin to explain things mentioned in previous s More...

Rediscovering my childhood fascination with rings has brought me back to Green Lantern and reading as well as collecting Lantern Graphic Novels.

If you are a new fan, old or recurring fan and have been excited about the buzz by the recent Green Lantern events in "THE BLACKEST NIGHT" then this is a must read and certainly casts a whole new light on Hal Jordan's origin and later ramifications of the current Blackest Night crisis that plagues the Lantern and DC Universe!

Before Geoff Johns started taking this series down a science fantasy/fantasty path he turned in this story that hews more towards the concept and the series original pulp scifi roots. Yes, its a retelling of Hal Jordan's beginnings, but Johns adds pieces to the tale that enhances the current storyline going on in the monthly. Hal, Carol and Sinestro, and even Abin Sur come accross with more character than in previous versions of this tale.

Onpa kerrassaan ruma kansi. Mutta ymmärrättävistä syistä. Kai tuo vetoaa leffaan tykästyneisiin.
Tarina sitten aukeaakin vaikeammin.
Kauniit piirrokset.

Reprints Green Lantern #29-35. Hal Jordan is selected to become a Green Lantern and hunts Atrocitus with Sinestro. Pretty clear and concise retelling of Hal Jordan's origin and a nice job incorporating the story arc set up within the new Green Lantern series. It is odd that they chose this storyline to come so deep into the series since it is an origin story (and it is a story that most comic book readers are familiar).

This character, and these books, do very little for me. I can see that it's a well written superhero comic, but I just can't get into it. Yet, I keep reading these because my library has the trades, and people swear up and down that this is the best title thing since sliced bread.

I'm curious to read the In Blackest Night story, so I'm going to read on a bit further, but then I'm done. I think.

I liked it pretty well. I haven't read anything to do with the Green Lantern in 20 years but I liked the character, and I thought this was well drawn and well told. The story had some meat on its bones, which is a requirement for me for a graphic novel. I like the emphasis on the novel part. Certainly it's no "Watchmen," but it was good enough to hold my interest all the way through.

I wasn't too interested in yet another Hal Jordan origin story, but it seemed worth a read, and it's surprisingly good. Johns has changed enough around to make for a tight fit with the current mythology. The story's new enough to be entertaining, and Johns didn't overthrow old characterizations so much that it feels forced (to fit either the recent storylines or movie plans).

Two stars because Geoff Johns retconned his own retcon of Jordan's origin as Green Lantern just to introduce the Darkest Night storyline?

It was entertaining enough but a writer as talented as Johns could have avoided the "let's retell his origin again" route and come up with something new (hence my two star rating). Saying that however, I quite like how he incorporated a throwaway story Alan Moore wrote in the '80s regarding Abin Sur's death into Green Lantern canon.

Since I made one of the guys from work read the "Twilight" series he said it was only fair that I read a series he really likes! So I got to read the Green Lantern! My first thoughts were, "oh heavens, a geeky superhero comic!" I was quite surprised to find that the story was actually really good and so were the drawings! Don't judge a book by its cover!!

I don't normally do tights, but I read this for graphic novel reading club. I enjoyed it like an action/adventure movie and I felt it stood alone as a book. However, reading club digressed into comparisons of other origin stories and discussions of the characters and serial overall. I have only read this book, but I liked it.

Just in time for the movie I picked up this collection from a book fair held at the school where my kids attend. It's volume 6 and the last time I picked up a GL book was vol 1 "Rebirth" several years ago. Since this is a retelling of Hal Jordan's origin--only slightly revised with subtle changes--I didn't miss anything in continuity between volume 2 and 5.

This graphic novel had some nice art work. Its a true origin story with some back stroy and emotional material to help understand just who the "Green Lantern" is. I picked up the book at Walmart when I was planning to do just some light reading over Christmas and enjoyed the story, now I just need to find time to see the movie:)

With new movie coming out this summer and knowing nothing about Green Lantern, I decided to brush up by reading this comic. It went fairly fast and gave some good background and insight into his character and superpowers. The art was impressive and story was interesting enough. Hoping they'll do a good job with the movie.

I don't know enough about the Green Lantern. That's my excuse for reading this. But I'm just assuming that they retell the origin of Hal Jordan, the Green Lantern, so they can weave the Red Lantern Corps and DC's latest 'Blackest Night' more fully into the Green Lantern mythos.

I liked it. Better than the other DC comic I read that week.

It was great to read how Hal Jordan came to be the Green Lantern, and I'm excited to now have a minimal basis of knowledge about this character before going to see the movie this Friday :)

Although, there is plenty more to this story, so I look forward to reading more about Green Lantern! What's next??? ;o)

Geoff Johns' run on Green Lantern began in 2004 with Rebirth but I went back to Secret Origin in anticipation of the feature film release. What makes Secret Origin amazing is its ability to relate to anyone, whether you've picked up a comic book before or not. All the important moments are here: Hal's first meeting with Abin Sur, his training under Kilowog, his tutelage under Sinestro. All these epic events are drawn wonderfully by Ivan Reis. After his work on this title, it's hard to call any o More...
