Seems like a deliberate move to have the story based within the context of a war between werewolves and wizards, rather than the typical vampire foe. I like it! However, it would have been a lot more interesting to learn more about this war instead of having to read about it on the sideline (which wasn't much actually).

Abby and Keith have good chemistry and their union is fulfilling, if a little too hasty. The idea of an Initiate asking another to be their Guide is a sweet, if dated, notion. Kin...more

Enjoyable,but I felt like I missed some of the backstory. Enjoyed both main characters and the story. The relationship moved a little fast, but I'm willing to suspend disbelief b/c it's a paranormal.

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I got ahold of Cry Sanctuary as a First Read. I had no clue what I was in for. I’ve never read anything in this series or these authors before.

The first couple pages of the book totally hooked me. I immediately wanted to know what was going on. I thought the world was great. I liked the idea of Guides, the author’s attention to world building in terms of the town and the larger world outside the town, the new take on an old mythology (idea of wizards and the possible connection with werewolves)...more I got ahold of Cry Sanctuary as a First Read. I had no clue what I was in for. I’ve never read anything in this series or these authors before.

The first couple pages of the book totally hooked me. I immediately wanted to know what was going on. I thought the world was great. I liked the idea of Guides, the author’s attention to world building in terms of the town and the larger world outside the town, the new take on an old mythology (idea of wizards and the possible connection with werewolves), and the werewolf politics. I really enjoyed the setup of the world and the characters and how their initial interaction took place. What a great way to introduce the reader to the world and the characters! I immediately cared what happened.

Unfortunately, some of that steam evaporated when it came to the relationship between Keith and Abby. I found their relationship hurried, sort of shallow and a little herky-jerky, regardless of the hot and heavy take-me-now-before-I-rocket-into-orbit sex. There were a couple places where the action seemed to make a u-turn on itself and I found myself going "Huh?". I think this led to some of the awkwardness between them as a couple. I wanted to see more story involving them as a couple and what brought them together. Whether that was more attempts by the Baddies to get Abby back, more interaction with other residents of the town, or Abby even her losing control (which was hinted at but never happened and would have been interesting to explore (there were plenty of emotionally charged scenes where she could have lost it). I kept waiting for there to be more WHUMPH and FWOOOOSH and WHEEEE! between them other than just heavy panting.

One of the questions I had was, Why werewolves? We don’t see them turn into werewolves, we don’t see werewolves rampaging across the countryside, we don’t hear werewolves howling at the moonlight. The only real show of werewolves we get is the kind of peculiar split-personality reference characters make to their wolves and having to learn to deal with them as if they’re different people entirely (again, this would have been an interesting thing to explore more deeply since Abby is new to this and now has to deal with this Other set of primal instincts and needs).

For being a new werewolf that was made when she was attacked, who came from an abusive environment, and has already shifted once (I presume that was traumatic?) she was incredibly well-adjusted.

Clearly, I’ve come to the party late. There are a bunch of other books in this series (I have #2 to read and review as well.) Maybe there’s werewolves frolicking and rampaging around in the other books, but I just felt like if it’s a story about werewolves I wanted to see some fur flying somewhere. Hopefully there will be some werewolves in the next one! I plan on reading it and finding out. How can I stop reading with gem lines like “If you blow up my woman, I’ll end you.” Hahah.

Once again, late to the party. Sigh.

I've heard great things about the Red Rock Pass series, but it wasn't until Amazon offered Cry Sanctuary for free in the Kindle store that I gave it a try.

Well...strategic marketing strikes again because I am hooked. My Ipod Touch is likely still steaming from the heat this book had. I could slap myself for not caving to peer pressure sooner. This book rocked.

I'm kind of apathetic about werewolf romances in general. I don't hate them, but they aren't my favori...more

I liked this one, I just thought there could have been ... more. More story. more resolution to the story. Sure, they tied up one part of the story line but they didn't give us the satisfaction of seeing Abby make peace with her wolf. Seriously, I got to the end and I kept looking for more. However, it was an intriguing premise and the writing was decent and I've already been checking out the others in the series.

I loved Cry Sanctuary. I read this book in a couple of hours. My only complaint is that I wish the book was longer. Because the book isn't that long, the relationship between Keith and Abby developed rather quickly. Keith is the typical Alpha male. He's strong and responsible. Abby is a newly turned female who needs a strong male. Her attraction to Keith was instantaneous. I loved that Abby's character wasn't wimpy or whiny. Cry Sanctuary is Abby and Keith's story. Abigail Adler's life has been turned upside down in the last month. She had a normal life and friends, until the night she met Alan Matthews. She knew something was not right when her friend Dylan seemed uncomfortable with her meeting Alan. A few nights later, she's a werewolf in Alan's pack. Alan is a ruthless, abusive pack leader with no conscience. Dylan is one of his wolves, but not a dominant one, and he feels like Abby's turn to wolf is his fault. He suprises everyone by helping her escape to Gavin's pack for sanctuary. They're attacked on the way to Sanctuary by thugs from Alan's pack but are saved by two of Gavin's enforcers - Keith Winston and Joe Mitchell. After arriving at their temporary lodgings, Abby finds herself drawn to Keith but she doesn't know why. He calms her.

Alan hadn't given Abby any guidance about being a werewolf. She doesn't know any of the rules, and has only changed once but doesn't remember much of it. Gavin's pack assigns all new werewolves a Guide, to teach and help with the transition from human to werewolf. The Guide must be stronger than the initiate, and Abby is pretty Alpha; Devyn can't handle her so they know she must pick someone else. Abby wants Kevin to be her Guide, but he wants to make sure she understands what is involved and that he is the one she really wants; there are usually intense emotions and sex involved. We learn throughout the story that Keith had a mate who was killed and for that reason he is taking it extra slowly with Abby.

Right before their guide bonding ceremony, Abby gets an anonymous letter with a picture ofher sister - Alan has kidnapped her sister, Brynn, and is holding her hostage to make Abby return! Keith knows Abby is going to go and decides he has to help her. He enlists the help of his friend Joe, and they head out to rescue Brynn without telling Gavin, because to do so would incite pack wars. Will Alan let Brynn go? Is he going to kill her? Turn her into a werewolf? What's going to happen when they get back to Sanctuary and Gavin finds out what they've done?

I really liked this book. If this was a real town I'd like to live there and hang out with Gavin and Sam and the gang. I liked Abby and Keith, and I also liked Joe and Dylan. Joe and Dylan each had tender moments in the story that made me go "awww" and I wanted more of them! I think Joe's story is next and I can't wait to read it. I'm curious to see if we find out in Book 2 what happened to Alan. This book had a few different storylines going on and Moira Rogers (Bree and Donna) did a great job showing the possible outcomes of each situation as it happened and making you wonder what comes next.

There's another free short story after this book, The Little Things, about Gavin and Sam, and we get another glimpse of Keith as a child. It was very sweet. I've already got book 2, Sanctuary Lost, on my laptop and ready to read! Sanctuary's Price, the third book in the series (Dylan's story) was released this week.

I've said it before, I don't know why but if an author writes multiple series I stick with the one I like and don't read any of the others. Moira Rogers is an exception to that rule; I like both their Southern Aracana and Red Rock Pass series.

Overall the book was interesting and flowed well. Its new slant on the werewolf lore was enjoyable. Vampires don't exist, but Wizards do. A part of that magic mixed in with the werewolves, making some of them very strong. It was a neat concept of the hierarchy among the wolves, and the differences between the "alphas" and the "submissives". I wanted to learn more about it and how they handled changing to their primitive selves.

Unfortunately, the author didn't explore that aspect. She teases us with the idea of what it would be like for the heroine, Abby, to lose control...but she never does. The reader is teased with what could happen if a submissive male initiated an alpha female...but we never find out. I expected the end to be a battle between the sanctuary and the feuding pack...but it didn't happen. There were far too many disappointments and not enough resolution.

Since this was an erotic novel, there should have been more than two sex scenes. The scenes flowed nicely though, and there was at least some heat between Abby and Keith. I liked both characters, so I was happy they came together. The added werewolf chemistry had so much promise and should have been explored a bit more. Besides that disappointment, the main distraction I found while reading the sexual scenes was the authors insistence on only using one word for the hero's...excitement. I ended up looking for the overused word, which distracted me from the scene, making it nearly impossible to get lost in the action. Since there are so many good words to use, there is no reason to use the same one every time.

Another problem was the ending. We were teased with the idea of reading about the characters finally turning into werewolves at the next full moon, since it never happened during the story. It was actually 2/3's of the way through before a wolf even made an appearance, but the book ended before Abby or Keith changed. Expecting another chapter on that, I could only stare in open-mouthed surprise to discover it had ended. The book was too much of a tease. How can someone write about werewolves but not show a werewolf? The reader doesn't even know if the villain of the story lived or died. Of course, this is the first of a series, so maybe those questions will be answered in the next books. Overall this story had the potential to be so much more and should have stood alone.(less)

I loved this book, so why would I only give it a 3 star? Mainly because the book is a little chaotic. Not the passion between Keith Winston and Abigail Adler or even the story it's self, more the slight jitters that happen when scenes don't quite mess together to tell the story.

A well written and very highly developed Paranormal world of werewolves, Cry Sanctuary sucks you in immediately as the action begins from the onset and keeps going to the end. I presume you know what the book is about. I'm letting you know what I liked or disliked about it.

I liked the story line, enjoyed the characters, and the adventure.

The characters were well developed. Abby and Keith have great chemistry as do each of the pairs of mates. I especially enjoyed reading about Abby's friend Dylan. I think he is one of those characters you come across in a story that you would like to know more about. We get some info but again, there is a hint of something more. hmmmm...more

I really enjoyed Cry Sanctuary.

It didn't really feel like the first book in a series. All the supporting characters related to each other well and felt like I already knew them.

The reason I knocked it down a star from 4 is the relationship between Keith and Abby. I love them together but Moira builds up the storyline of how powerful Abby is and how she needs a strong Alpha to help guide her through the process of becoming a werewolf. Cry Sanctuary is about Abby who was turned against her will by an abusive Alpha in Helena. She escaped with the help of a friend (Dylan…such a cute character!) and asked for sanctuary in Red Rock Pass. We learn with Abby what it means to be a werewolf, she’s still very newly turned and knows next to nothing about what it means and all the rituals that must be done. Abby needs a Guide to help her through the full moon and she needs to choose who it will be.

Then there’s Keith…ahh Keith, he is back in town after 5 years abroad. We learn that he left after something terrible happened and he’s still haunted by this event. Keith and Abby are attracted to each other (I can’t blame her seriously!!) , he agrees to help Abby through her Initiation and let me tell you it is very hot!

I loved the fact that it’s not only about Keith and Abby getting together, there’s a more complex story, there’s drama and there’s action! Abby’s sister (Brynn) is kidnapped by the Alpha of Helena, he wants her back and he won’t hesitate to torture her sister to get what he wants.

We meet Brynn and Joe (another werewolf from Red Rock Pass *wipes drool*) and I was glad to learn that the next book was about them. But back to Cry Sanctuary, in less than 200 page we are introduced to a new and very interesting world when it ends you want more and that is amazing. This is a very good start for a series. It’s always difficult to set up a new world in a novel it’s even more difficult in a novella, Moira Rogers did it perfectly!(less)

Ok so I stared reading this book thinking it would be exiting with loads of action, romance and a kick ass couple of werewolves that feel like they must protect the one true mate. It’s a well known fact that i have a penchant for alpha males, specially the shape shifting type. So, Moira Rogers’s Red Rock Pass series is right up my alley and I have to say I loved it.

Sanctuary is actually two stories in one book. Cry Sanctuary and Sanctuary Lost both came out before in ebook version and now they have been put together and are coming out in one print volume.

The modern world and society are hell on werewolf traditions and the packs living in big cities have been corrupted into something more akin to a dictatorship.

Red Rock is home of one of the few packs in the world where the old laws and traditions are still appreciated and is also considered sanctuary to those who need to escape the cruel life among the distorted packs.

In Cry Sanctuary we get to know new werewolf Abby, ho is running from an alpha obsessed with making her his bitch in every sense of the word. Her best friend, Dylan, is a lower ranked wolf, but he can’t stand to see her suffer as such so he breaks her out and they both run to Red Rock.

Keith just came back from fighting in the war between wizards and werewolves in Europe. He is an enforcer for the alpha and his newest responsibility is bringing Abby and Dylan to red Rock safely.

Abby and Keith’s connection is undeniable and sets the book pages on fire. Their road to a HEA is not easy in the slightest, specially when the crazy alpha who is hunting Abby, kidnaps her sister and uses her as leverage to get what he wants.

Sanctuary Lost is the story of Abby’s sister Brynn and Keith’s friend and fellow enforcer, Joe. By saving Brynn, Joe has forged a connection that he is not sure he is ready to face. Brynn is human and stuck in midst a brewing war, she has a decision to make, stay human and weak among werewolves or become one of them.

Both stories are strong and action packed. There is a lot of smexing for sure , but the balance between plot and the sex is extremely well done and satisfying. I loved this book and I just can’t wait for more Red Rock Pass books.

If you are into Paranormal Romance, this is definitely a series you should look into to, great story, interesting plot, a lot of action in and out of bed and hot and sexy werewolves, what more can you ask for?(less)

I thought this book was good. I enjoyed the change of pace with werewolves vs. wizards instead of vampires. It is always nice to change it up. I thought this story flowed nicely. I enjoy that Dylan, a submissive, was able to overcome those tendencies to help a friend escape. I loved that Abby was a strong Alpha Female who still needed a strong Alpha male to take care of her. this review will be wimpy, made more so by my lazy cutting and pasting for all the books of moira rogers i've read in the past couple of days.

the books are good. they're not crazy awesome-super fabulous. but they're a solid 'good'. but what makes these books so fabulous (for me, anyway) is their kindle price. between $3.59 and $5.49 (or so) for all of them. which is freakin' amazing for someone who reads as fast, or as much, as i do.

It was really hard to give this book a rating. There were times in the story that I was rivited and loved it. Then there were others where I thought the action seemed a little forced or added on for effect rather than being swept away by the story. The ending was also really abrupt, and I didn't dig that there was not a single shift that happened in the whole story.

I really enjoyed this book, the story was interesting and the society was well thought out. I read a lot of shifters books and it's nice to have a different idea behind how the shifters do things.

It was great having read The Becoming first so I knew the story of Sam and Gavin. It was also nice to see Kieth all grown up and a real man. I really loved Kieth, he is strong and hot and you can't help but want to be with him. And you can still see that sweet, helpful boy we met in The Becoming.

This book is really a 3.5/5. The story flew quick and fast and you couldn't help but feel for Abby and the chaos her life has become. I'm a little ashamed at how long it took me to get around to reading this, considering how awesome the Moira Rogers duo are. But I'm happy to report that the novella didn't disappoint.

Although I'm not normally a paranormal reader, I do love the worldbuilding in this book. The politics of being a werewolf in Red Rock are just as interesting as the transformation itself, and it's done with such a light hand the reader doesn't feel bogged down by unnecessary details.

The story follows two main characters and some good side ones. Keith is struggling to come to terms with a past he doesn��t like. Abigail has been forced into a world she didn��t know existed while her friend Dylan trying to accept that there are better packs out there than the one he was in. Shelves: werewolves

After I read the prequel of the Red Rock Pass series, I thought that it was time to read “Cry Sanctuary” the first story in the series by Moira Rogers. I have to admit that it was a very interesting read. Of course, is a story with werewolves, but not like others of this genre. My impression is that it’s darker and while I was reading it I had a feeling that things in this world-building will get worse in time.

I loved that this book was about Keith (the little boy we saw in Becoming). He was so adorable looking after Sam and helping his parents ang Gavin. I couldn't wait to see what kind of man he grew into.
He is so strong and caring, doing everything he can to help the people he cares about. He was made Enforcer of the pack by Gavin and he does his job very well.
