This is an outstanding book. Longyear took the Alien Nation universe and made it so much more than science fiction or a detective mystery. Paying homage to John Howard Griffin and his experience in the 1950s which are recounted in Black Like Me, Slag Like Me is about prejudice and labels.
Barry is the first writer to win the Hugo, Nebula, and John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer all in the same year, for Enemy Mine.
