Yeah, I really liked this. I couldn't wait to get back to this one & it was a perfect beach read. I am a sucker for Dev. I think he is a really cool character.
The basic plot - Vamp Queen Lady Danny runs into solitary bushman in bar & takes him up to the hotel for a spin. She leaves him after some intense fun. He comes after her when he finds out the friend at the hotel sold her out & some baddies are after her. She almost dies - he comes to her rescue just in time. Hi-jinks ensue. ...more

I didn't really like this book. It's the only one of the series I've read (I read it 1st b/c the author said on his website it can be read as a stand alone) so far and won't be reading any of the others.
I love to read and am a very fast reader. However, this book did not hold my interest in the least. I only finished it b/c if I don't finish a book (regardless of how dreadful the book may be) it drives to crazy not to finish it as I wonder if wouldn've gotten better further into the book....more

TLDR recap:
A drifter haunted by a brutal past, Devlin is a bushman who lives a lonely life on the edge in the Australian Outback. At the tender young age of 200 years old, Lady Daniela, a rare "born" vampire who is heiress to her own province in Oz, is sought after by scheming male vampires trying to increase their own standing who are willing to kill or viciously torture her to achieve their...more

I wanted him and I wanted her!!! What a great sexy hot erotic book. Dev an Aussie outback falls for a blonde vamp by the name of Danny, it was so hot from page one in the bar scene I had to take deep breaths!! What a great romantic story Danny is amazing she really knows how to stand up for herself and she also likes submissive women a trait I liked in her. Dev had a great loss and I'm glad he was able to love again even though Danny was rough on him by binding him and making him take another...more

I'm having a love-hate feeling about this story. I was interested in reading it when I found out it's about Lady Daniela and Devlin. They were an intriguing couple whom I first read about in the second book in this series (The Mark of the Vampire Queen).
This one has more BDSM, the characters were way different from Lyssa and Jacob. The sex was rougher and though the author wrote a good love story on this one, the story dragged. The setting (Outback Australia and other cities) didn't ca...more

This was an interesting 3rd book for the series which takes place in the early 50s in Western Australia. I have to admit that the dialog and expressions were hard to get used to, but in the end, lent such an air of authenticity. Lady Daniella meets bushman, Devlin in a rough bar in the Outback. We met both of them previously at the vampire gathering in present times in the second book. This is their story. Lady Daniella, aka Danny, is preparing to take back her rightful territory from her l...more
Joey W. Hill is a wonderful story teller. I enjoyed the Australian Outback setting the Aussie Vernacular, even some of the historical moments she touched on made me remember Aussie history. Considering she is not Australian I thought she did a wonderful portrayal. I like the way Joey writes a love story, she seems to touch on the mental level not just the physical of the two main characters. I can't say I'm really big on red headed characters but she does describe Dev as being extremely manl...more

I fell in love with Lady Lyssa and Jacob in the first two books of this series, and I have to admit that I was quite sad when I discovered that the third book was not about them. When I realized it was about Lady Daniela and Devlin, I was somewhat mollified. I had enjoyed their part in the second book of the series. This is the 3rd book in the series and moves away from Lady Lyssa and Jacob to concentrate on Lady D and Dev. The book backtracks from where we first met D and Dev to tell the story of how they 1st met and how Dev becomes D's full servant. Again there are some pretty steamy scenes, but they are less about dominance and submission until the end. D seems to struggle with the idea of being a big bad vampire just because that's how things are supposed to be and when she finally decides to go with...more
I did enjoy this book. It was a little hard for me to get into it at first. But, I think a big part of that was that I was sick and just could not focus on the story very well. Once I started feeling better, I enjoyed the story much more. At first, I didn't care for Danny, but really enjoyed Devlin. You really see Danny grow up in this story. You also get to see Dev come to terms with many things in his life and the past that has haunted him. I also greatly enjoyed reading a story that takes pla...more

Whewwwwwwww weeeeeee!!! This book was h-h-h-hottttt! Claim is Lady D and Dev's story--which is set about 60 years from when we first met them in book 2. Daniella is more of a gentle type of vampire in regards to what we've seen throughout this series. Dev is a bushman, who has loved and lost what was most dear to him. The two meet and instant fireworks erupt! Dev is hotness on a stick!! The way he saved Dani from her attackers just blew me away. His way of protecting...more

A Vampire's Claim is book three in Joey Hill's Vampire Queen Series. A Vampire's Claim even though it is the third book actually takes place about 60 years prior to the first two books of the series. The first two books are about Lyssa and Jacob and you don't necessarily have to have read them to enjoy this book. Although, the first two books are good and you might want to read them anyway! This book is the story of how Devlin an Australian bushman became Lady Daniela's servant.

Tone/flow different from 1st 2 books.
Slower...more background story...emotional conflict
Female vamp more laid back...loner...Aussie living in outback.
Male human...aussie bushman...family was killed...war veteran...loner. Nothing to live for.
Overall...good book...very good ending!
I enjoyed the humans struggle with the life/situation.
I loved that Lyssa from the 1st 2 books was in this...loved her authority & power/presence in this book!

Just finished this one last night. Lady Daniela is the vampire, and Devlin is the servant (for those that have read the others in the series). For me, Australia in this book was as much of a character as either vampire or servant, and it made for an intriguing - and very different - read from the rest of the series. I loved Dev and how strong and passionate he was, and intensely devoted to Danny. Great book.
This is a beautiful story of love. Its about two people who really need each-other. I found myself almost shouting at the pages when he left and breathing a sigh of relief when he came back. Some of the sex is a bit harrowing but in keeping with the context in which it is set. All in all a bonza read.
I liked the sidestory of the other two characters and the setting of the outback. I'm a big stickler for series romances being in the same world but giving us more story about two other characters from what seemed like the main story made me like the author more.
I bought this at Barnes and Nobles and didn't realize it was a series. I can't wait to read the first two. I loved this book. Devlin was OMG hot I loved the way he stayed an amazingly strong character yet was able to submit to his mistress.

So-so on the plot, but I didn't realize it was 3rd in a trilogy, but I guess its also a prequel to the other 2, at least from what I've read. High on the kink :)
Another great Vampire Queen story by Joey. Danny (Vampire) and Dev (Human Servant)great pairing of a tortured alpha male, subimitting to his Lady vampire.
I would recommend reading this one first since it is set in 1953 Australia. It gives you a better understanding of the Vampire politics and gives you a prequel to Queen Lyssa and I enjoyed it very much!
Dev and Danny's story, makes you understand how much the can side with Lyssa in all the issues. Like the rest of the series absolutely AWESOME!
Joey's Vampire series is my favorite. Now finishing #3 "A Vampire's Claim." Joey writes with such sensitivity in the psychological area as well as the physical, erotica area. These two go hand and hand and with out them together one has just read a story with nothing behind it. When you first meet Danny, she is one hard female Vampire. Then there is Dev. a bushman who "loves" his woman. They both have met their match. They both realize that they need each other beyond...more
50 pages in and I'm still bored-not much there that draws me in to either character.
There was a bit more "romance" in this novel than in Ms. Hill's other BDSM/vampire works.

The bet parts were when Danny kills Ian and later Lord Charles.

This is the third in Joey Hill's Vampire Queen series. Where as the others took place in the present, the setting for this one is the Australian Outback in 1953. I thoroughly enjoyed the bits of history that come through the story. These books are hard core. I admire the author's commitment to pushing to the extreme in the sexual situations because it really confirms what these vampires are all about. In the context of the story I found it to be very moving and profound.

I’ve always had an aversion to reading, watching or hearing interviews of favorite actors, authors, musicians, etc. because so often the real person doesn’t measure up to the beauty of the art they produce. Their politics or religion are distasteful, or they’re shallow and self-absorbed, a vacuous mop-head without a lick of sense. From then on, though I may appreciate their craft or art, it has so...more
