I don't quite know where to start with this one. It was so unlike any book I've read, I'm not sure what I really thought of it. I've got to give it a pretty high rating for holding my interest, but parts of it were a little out of my comfort zone. But I'm glad I read it, and I think I may have even learned a little bit about mythology and archaeology, two subjects I don't know much about. Sexually, this book was all over the place: two pretty hot male/female romances, a m/f/m menage scene, and a...more I don't quite know where to start with this one. But I'm glad I read it, and I think I may have even learned a little bit about mythology and archaeology, two subjects I don't know much about. Sexually, this book was all over the place: two pretty hot male/female romances, a m/f/m menage scene, and a handful of m/m scenes as well. Add to that a demigod hero who was part man, part winged creature, his best friend (also a demigod) who had the ability to shift into a snow leopard, and a vengeful Greek goddess who cursed them both for eternity (preventing them from ever finding a woman who would love them forever), and a couple of academic-type heroines who are sexually awakened by the demigods, and you have one very unusual but often times exciting romance. This may not have been quite my cup of tea, and it definitely wasn't a typical romance, but I can imagine someone who's into the whole mythology and Indiana Jones vibe this book sometimes had, and is not bothered by the heroes having a sexual relationship not only with the heroines, but with each other, well, I can imagine them loving this one.

Basically the story is that Patricia, owner of an antiques store, meets Nico, handsome, winged demigod, one day when he's lying on the floor of her store, bruised and unconscious. She's not at all bothered by the fact that he has two enormous black wings coming out of his well-muscled back. She's a psychic, she's used to creatures of the night, she can read auras, knows he's not human but he doesn't seem evil. She finds out that he's in her store looking for an ostracon, which is basically a piece of stone with ancient writing on it. This ostracon may be the key to freeing him and his good buddy Andreas from the curse that Hera, a Greek goddess, placed on them. Hera placed the curse on them to teach them the difference between lust and love. Thousands of years ago Nico and Andreas were huge playboys, lusting after women, taking what they wanted, and then moving on, often leaving the women with broken hearts. Now with Hera's curse, they were to spend eternity as slaves to female desire, used for sex and then cast aside by women, never to be loved or even remembered. But this ostracon, if it can be located and then the writings and hieroglyphics interpreted, may hold the key to freeing them from the curse. Patricia, Nico, and Andreas enlist the help of a shy, pretty, slightly frumpy young grad student and Professor of Egyptology, Rebecca Trimble. With her help interpreting the ostracon, they go on a journey that takes them all the way to Egypt, where they end up facing off with Hera herself. Along the way, Patricia and Nico become more and more attracted to each other, and think they are falling in love. Surprisingly, the gruff Andreas and the shy Rebecca are heading that way too. There's a couple of hot and somewhat explicit love scenes, including a menage scene between Nico, Patricia, and Andreas, and a couple of m/m scenes between Nico and Andreas. Ultimately Nico has to pass a test to prove that his love for Patricia is true, or he will never be free of the curse. But will his sacrifice for Patricia be enough to set him free, and provide a future for him and Patricia?

Like I said, this isn't a typical romance, so if you like your romances 'typical', this isn't the book for you. If you're looking for something different, then this one certainly fills the bill. I liked all the major players in this book, but especially found Nico very sweet, sexy, and endearing, and Andreas was the little bit pessimistic, sexy, alpha bad boy. If you know nothing about mythology, you may find it a little confusing at first, but the author does a pretty good job explaining about all the various gods and goddesses mentioned, and their connection to the story. The story does have a pretty exciting climax, and a sweet, satisfying HEA with a 'love conquers all' theme. This one started out very exciting, dragged just a bit in the middle, but then picked up a full head of steam towards the exciting conclusion. I liked it well enough that if this book becomes a series, I will check out the next installment--4 stars.

Hmmm, how to rate "Mortal Temptations" by Allyson James? I really enjoy her 'Dragon' series, but I must say that this read left me, well...not cold, but not hot either.

Patricia has always been psychic and able to 'read' auras, so she's always up for a little something unusual. However, finding a man with a broken wing in her antique store may be just a bit more than a little unusual. But boy howdy, he sure is hot!

Add to that a secondary romance between rugged, gruff, alpha Andreas and shy, nerdish, bookworm, academic, Egyptologist Rebecca who the group seeks out to help unravel the relic’s secrets in an effort to break Hera’s curse.

I was really captivated by the book’s concept, chock-full of interesting references to gods, goddesses, and mythology, and I liked the intriguing characters, especially Nico. I mean, it doesn’t get much hotter than a sexy, sweet, beta hunk with a majestic pair of exotic black wings with soft, sensuous feathers that he can use for flying, to encircle, hold, and protect a woman in his arms, as well as provide erotic pleasure...yowza! And I think it’s wicked awesome that the wings emerge from a tattoo of a black pair of wings on his back. Of course, a shifting snow leopard is pretty cool too. There’s lots and lots of sex in this of all varieties, including some m/f/m ménage and mild m/m action.

I enjoyed the first 160 or so pages, but then the story started dragging. The scenes with the foursome searching for ancient artifacts and answers in Egypt should have felt adventurous, but there was just too much crammed in and the plot seemed to get bogged down. I think my biggest complaints were the choppy pacing and that the story felt too long, even though it’s only 295 pages. Still, I really liked the book’s unusual premise, the interesting characters, and the verrrry hot (and frequent) sex, and I was entertained enough that I’ll read the next book, Mortal Seductions that’s slated for release in Sept’09. 3 ½ stars.

OMG. HOT. HOT. HOT. This is the best erotica book I've ever read. Nico, a demi-god/angel, is cursed as a pleasure slave doomed to fall in love and get rejected over and over again. His best friend, Andreas, a demi-god/were-leopard is cursed as well. Patricia is a mere human. She is in love with Nico and has amazing sex with both Nico and Andreas.

A good amount of M/F/M sex scenes very sexy and pretty blatant. I sincerely hope Allyson James writes more books in this vein. Truly wonderful.

I am rating this based on the good reads scale; 2 stars it was "ok"

In the beginning, the idea of a winged creature dropping in was compelling, but the fact that Patricia accepted it as if it were nothing more unusual than spilled milk was a bit disconcerting.

They have spent millennia trapped in a wicked curse placed on them by Hera. The premise of the curse: when a women is attracted to one or the other, a bond forms and the gods must become the female’s sexual slave. The women will use the men up while the men fall in love with the females. Once the woman is tired of the gods, the curse will cause her to leave the male and forget him, while the gods wither in pain from a broken heart. Not a bad idea to “get back” at ones who were careless with women’s hearts.

But of course, this time around, things are different... Nico and Andreas think that they have discovered a means to end the curse. And wouldn’t you know that along the way they meet Patricia and Rebecca... two women that may have been drawn to the gods because of the curse, but fall in love despite of it.

The story takes the group to London and Egypt on a search for answers. They meet other deities and duel with Hera’s demon fighters. The story is fairly fast paced and the plot not too bad.

I’ll admit that I picked up this book specifically looking for an “erotic” story. I have been enjoying paranormal romance books for well over a year now, and recently learned of the “erotic” sub-genre. I wondered... what would make a book erotic, and in this book’s case it is a lot of m/m/f and m/m sex. And as much of a fan of great smut that I am, I have to tell you, this book’s sex scenes didn’t do it for me. It wasn’t because of the erotic nature or multiple partners. It was that they didn’t have heart in them. Romance novels revolve around “true love” or “happily ever afters” and the sex is usually a result of that core principle. In this story, there was a lot of passionate-less sex that did not promote the love story of the book. And this became tiresome quickly.

One annoying thing that I have to quickly mention... Are you familiar with the word quim? Well, I had never heard the term, and it is used frequently in the book. It didn’t take long to figure out what it meant, but come on... this word is so obsure and dated... My Kindle didn’t even have it in it’s dictionary! It wasn’t found in the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary! I found this definition at dictionary.com:
quim [kwim:] –nounSlang: Vulgar. vagina; vulva.
Origin: 1725–35; orig. obscure
So now you know.

Overall a quick read. If you want some adventurous m/m/f sex, check it out. The plot is a fairly good one.

Hera is the spiteful goddess who cursed the pair a couple millennia ago for their lustful ways. Bes is a lesser Egyptian God who helps during the mission to break the curse. Demitri is a tiger shape-shifter/demigod and friends with Nico and Andreas (focus of book #2). Patricia, our heroine, is a physic antiques dealer, cat owner (love cat owners) and the most self-composed and weird women ever. Rebecca is a nerdy postdoc archeologist who can translate hieroglyphs and is thrown in as a love interest for the subplot. She's also fairly weird. But then again the whole book is weird.

So the plot is this: Nico and Andreas' curse is that they are slaves to female desire. They must pleasure every women who desires them (I guess?) until the women grows bored and casts them aside. Nico and Andreas (I assume) fall a little in love with each women and are left heartbroken after each affair. I'm not sure the particulars of the curse were that clear. Anyway, Nico breaks into Patricia's antique shop hoping to find an ostracon which they believe holds the key to ending the curse. When Nico meets Patricia he wants her instantly but knows it can only end with his heartbreak. As they grow closer, Nico and Patricia, with the help of Andreas and Rebecca fight off demons during an around the world search for answers.

This is definitely a paranormal erotic romance novel with a healthy dose of sex including M/F, M/M {an implied M/M/M}, M/F/M and even a snow leopard/F scene. Most encounters of the 'unconventional' are limited to one or two scenes but they are distinct moments, namely the male/male ardor. The first M/M scene was a bit uncomfortable. My eyebrows were approaching my hairline and my eyes might have been a bit on the buggy side. I don't have a vast M/M reading background so I'm not sure how I feel about it in general. I don't prefer it but I can read it. The second time the M/M action happens it's awkward so I snickered and snorted until it turned into full out guffawing. It was funny. See?

"If Nico needs comfort we can both (Demitri and Andreas) give it to him." *Snorts*
"Nico...kissed Demitri's mouth, then started with him for the bedroom, Andreas following." *Snicker snorts*
Nico woke up a few hours later, snug in a nest of his two snoring friends...lying with bare bodies touching for warmth and reassurance, like littermates." *Guffaws*

I'm not convinced that my discomfort and subsequent laughter falls into a case of whether or not I enjoyed or was embarrassed by M/M action. I think the scenes were fumbled into with comical writing and the results were tawdry, silly and feckless.

There were other things I didn't like or believe in this book and that made it so much less enjoyable and sometimes even absurd. Patricia, as I mention is literally the most self-composed character I've ever read. In the middle of the night she rushes from her apartment upstairs to her antique shop below and discovers a winged-man creature bleeding and unconscious on the floor. She bandages him up, grabs a pillow and covers him with a blanket, letting him sleep. She doesn't call the cops or even squeak out a sound of shock or distress. In the morning when he wakes she just wants to know a few details about who he is and why he's there. Do what?!? Then after about 40 pages it gets more bizarre. The first 'sex' scene occurs when Nico is teaching Patricia how to masturbate, something she's never done. Nico doesn't touch her, but uses his feathers to penetrate her. Patricia calls this their first date! In another scene Patricia asks winged Nico if he can fly and fuck her at the same time. It just comes out of nowhere and is unnecessarily crude. There are several other lines or moments, including Rebecca saying she draws the (sex) line at leopards, that made me think I should just stop reading.

The author's writing style is recognizably Allyson James/Jennifer Ashley. For some readers I'd suspect they'd find her writing to be substandard. Still others will find no fault at all. In my experience her writing can be a bit slack and unusual and simultaneously sexy and enjoyable. I have, in the past, liked, loved and disliked her books. This book was such a bizarre bundle of oddities that I don't really know how to rate it. If I happen to find the succeeding books from this series I'll read them but mostly for the cheap (sometimes bawdy) thrill.(less)

I was disappointed in this book. It looked to be pretty interesting based on the blurb on the back cover, but I thought the book was mostly about the sex between the main characters and the plot suffered for it. I thought delays in the plot were used solely for the purpose of having Nico and Patricia, Andreas and Rebecca, Patricia, Nico and Andreas and Nico and Andreas have sex with each other in various combinations.

Gah! What do I say about this....?

I love it when a book literally throws you into the middle of the plot... that first line hits you, and you devour the rest. Well, the first hits in this book, but it leaves you feeling as though you missed a hell of a lot of plot and it never makes up for that loss.

Patricia is far too accepting of the angel on her floor. She fixes his wing as though he is mortal and digests his secrets as though they were his shoe size! No amount of "I'm psychic" can write this...more

There was nothing "tempting" about this story. And the only thing "mortal" about it was it showing the truth about how sick & utterly twisted some mortals can be. Mainly the one who wrote this. Nothing interesting about it except maybe ( that's a small maybe) the brief references and limited info concerning the greek myths, gods, goddesses, etc.. This story was all over the place. Allyson had no clue where she wanted, needed, or should have gone with this book.

NASTY NASTY....I don't know what I was thinking. I guess when my friend said, "You HAVE to read this" I thought, "why not...i've read some paranormal romance before. How bad could it really be?"

It was terrible. I am scarred for life. I didn't think it was going to be that raunchy and that is why I think i hated this book. I didn't prepare/anticipate...animal....human...guy on guy.....uh yeah enough said.

Definitely not my cup of tea, but more power to you if you are.

I enjoyed this book bc it's the perfect book for my treadmill, ie, fun-sweet-romantic-light in plot + hot-erotic-sexiness. Only Allyson James can put 3 male demigods in one bed and called it a comforting-act...and I believed it too, lol. Told you it was a fun read.

I think I finally figured it out. This author's style of writing and I don't get along. I liked this book. But was left disappointed again. Third series that this has happened. Man I was hoping that even though the reviews weren't great that I would like it anyway. That happens for me sometimes. Yeah not so much here. It has major potential and then it just became annoying. Not a bad read. However I was tossing up between giving this book 2 or 3 stars as i just didn't quite "connect" with this one... I found that it didn't enthral me like some of the other books that i adore within this genre. i didnt finish this one.. theres a story line but it gets lost in all the sex.. if you looking for a book with lots of sex but no reall sex not sure if you get it but you will if you read it, this book is for you.. not really my thing but thats just me, maybe if i read the hole book it might turn out ok but i wasnt getting into.. i hope you have better luck..

This was a unique story line, and the characters were definitely hot together. The story did seem a little slow at some points, but overall I enjoyed it. I would definitely read the next book in the series.

Just a note: Don't read this book if you are squeamish about sex scenes. There are a lot of them, and they are very detailed.. including a few m/m scenes.

This book is good if you are into the really spicy type of sex. I picked it because it seemed to have a black girl on the front, the guy had what appeared to be wings and it was on my list of books to read. What I got was an incorrect book cover, the guy has wings, however, he is not an angel and WAY more graphic menage than I have ever read. I think that if you are into menage then you will enjoy it. I loved this book. I have to admit that if I happened to be reading this book around other people, I got a little embarrassed. In some parts I thought "Wow, she so went there!" and I loved it. Yes, it's that dirty! The story is also really well written and I found myself rooting for the characters.

Interesting book and I will read the next book because Demetri was introduced in this one. I liked the characters and the mythology element in it. It was different and I felt something was missing but not sure what that was. Worth reading!

This book was straight up Erotica. It had a desecent storyline, but its like all the characters were doing was having sex. More storyline would have made it a good book. Its not my typical book, I gave it a try cause a friend loaned it to me.

There was plot. It wasn't great plot but it was there.
