I went into reading Nerd In Shining Armor knowing that it was a romantic comedy. Even if I didn't, it wouldn't have been difficult to figure that out with the cartoon cover. Still, I guess I was expecting it to have at least a little bit of depth. Instead, what I got was a frothy concoction that reminded me of a B-movie. Admittedly, I have a tendency to constantly analyze both the content of a book, as well as my emotions and reactions to it as I'm reading, which in this case, was leading to a l More...

I know this is a fluffy read and it's suppose to be light and entertaining but I wasn't really entertained. I usually have no problem with willing suspension of disbelief for a good read but I found this book to be too unbelievable. There was nothing totally fantastical going on but i found the character's(even with their "edges" and hidden characteristics) silly and vexing. I found it odd that the author went from having the main characters seem almost naive and "innocent" and then fol More...

Even though I don't buy romance books, I must admit this one tempted me for years. I mean, come on, it's a romance with a geek! And I love geeks. However, the main thing prevented me from getting the book was my concern over the heroine. The back cover copy made it sound like Gen was a shallow slut; couldn't the nerd do better than that?[return][return]As it turns out, the book was a hoot. Gen does initially come across as desperate and shallow, but there is surprising depth to her character. Sh More...

VLT (we'll call her VLT cuz she's just so nummy) shines with a light and funny beach read.

This book was so short I finished in over the course of day, starting in the morning and staying up past my bedtime that night [couldn’t sleep]. It was cute and fun, but a little on the bubblegum side of romance. Gen is a very attractive young woman who grew up in the backwoods of Tennessee, but was moved by her mother to Hawaii at 15 and tries to hide her hillbilly past. Jackson aka Jack is the resident genius of Rainbow Systems which does something with computers and Jack is a programmer, thou More...

I should preface this by review by mentioning that although I've read plenty of books with romantic elements, this is the first “romance” book I've read. I decided on this particular book as it seemed a bit more adventuresome than most romances and I felt like the main characters may be a bit more relatable than most romance books. I had a hard time starting this book, but ended up really enjoying it after only a few chapters in and rushed through the rest of it in only a couple days.

I have a thing for tall, thin, pale, geeky white boys with big brains. So, I was super excited to find a book about a computer programmer beta-hero. After reading this book, I should amend that to mention the word “capable” somewhere in my description.
Gen has a major crush on one of her bosses, who just happens to be a bad guy. Jack is the company computer programmer and has a major crush on Gen. They both end up on a deserted island after their boss tries to kill them. In large part, they’re a More...

Hunter’s Review
I loved this book. From the moment it opens, in Gen’s point of view, I fell in love with her voice. She didn’t sound like any other character I’ve ever had the pleasure to read. She was totally unique. Raised in backwoods Tennessee, her Mama inherited a pair of Elvis’ underpants (don’t tell, it’s a family secret) and used the money from their sale to move her children (Gen and her little brother Lincoln) to Hawaii. Fast forward a bunch of years and Gen is working for a company in More...

Book #46 of 2009
This was a cute little romance, and a quick read. There was a secondary story line running throughout, which kept the monotony of two characters stranded on a deserted island alone at bay. There were a couple of things that seemed out of place, like the whole psychic business and at times when Gen slipped into "back country Tennessee" Gen, it sounded just a little too hillbilly to be 100% believable, but it didn't bother me too much. Its all about what I expect from the book. I d More...

Okay, I'll admit it. I'm a sap for romance. In case you hadn't guessed by the books I read. Although, I do like the occasional fantasy.
The only reason this got two stars and not less was because I liked the plot and the nerd actually acted like a nerd (as much as a nerd who's the hero in a romance novel can), instead of a hot guy masquerading as a nerd.
Everything else? Not so much. I got about a quarter of the way in and, literally, skim read the rest of it.

Yes! Nerds win out! Finally! Finally! I am a nerd and a geek, and I love it when they become the sexy hero of a story. From when I was a wee lass so many years ago (ok, not so many) I fell in love with Nerds. Don’t get me wrong I love the jocks too, but when I get a jock that just happens to know his way around a computer, or one who knows his superhero…Bam! My knees are jello. It all started with a certain Mia Thermopolis falling for a certain Michael in The Princess Diaries. And then Vicki Lew More...

What a cute story! I found myself all wrapped up in the building relationship of Gen and Jack and having them stuck on a deserted island made it all the more fun! :)
I also found it nice that there was a side romance story going on with Gen's mother Annabelle and her boss Matt. :) Made it more interesting and more real.
Hope all of this authors books are this good! I'm already dying to read more soon.

She's a little bit country. He's a little bit rock 'n roll...Actually she's A LOT country, and he's not even a little bit rock 'n roll. But once Genevieve and Jackson are stranded on a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific, he sure does rock her world!
In the beginning, I wasn't too fond of Genevieve. In fact, she was a bit annoying, but soon enough her country-flare grew on me, just as something else was growing on Jackson. Jackson is your typical nerdy guy: smart, good with computers, no fas More...

Loved Gen and Jackson's interplay and getting to know each other. I didn't feel like it was rushed and you get to know the characters. Agree with some other reviewers that I wasn't too into the Elvis bits and some of the other things that the author did to try to get the reader to laugh. Enjoyed the plot and the sunny island atmosphere.

I've been hearing little things
about this book here and there,
so when I saw it at Wal-Mart today,
I grabbed it up. I thought that
since it had been picked by one
of the tv shows for its book read
that Nerd might be a cut above the
usual romance book. Alas, IMHO, no.
It is a very usual romance book with
cardboard characters and manipulated
plots and unlikely dialogue, with a
slightly clever twist---a nerd hero---
and a great title. Sigh.

Nerd in Shining Armour, Vicki Lewis Thompson’s first book in the Nerd series, is set in Hawaii. Jackson Farley finds himself the third wheel on a plane trip to Maui when his boss Nick Brogan takes one of the firm’s secretaries, Genevieve Terrence, for a meeting and an overnight stay. At least, that’s what the plan was. But apparently Nick had other ideas, and suddenly Jackson finds himself trying to land a plane in the ocean near a tiny island. Meanwhile, Genevieve’s mother, Annabelle, is convin More...

Genevieve Terrance is a Tennessee redneck, turned wannabe sophisticate, whose mama financed the family’s move to Hawaii after selling her prized pair of Elvis’s jockey shorts. Jackson Farley is a colorblind computer nerd in need of a woman. When a business trip goes awry, the two end up stranded together on a deserted island. You can probably guess the rest…

I honestly can't believe that I read this book. It was the title, I promise. It was incredibly predictable (like most "fluff" books) and an okay read. I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone though...

The first book in the Nerds series. An enjoyable, lighthearted romp. I liked it a lot. It may not have had that WOW factor but it was just what I needed at this time. A fun, light read! :)

really cute! as someone who grew up in WV, I really enjoyed the OTP stereotypical presentation of the main female leads...enjoyed their twang and sayings and memories a lot. I also loved the freedom in this book and fun. good amount of LOL humor and tension build ups too. There was some sexy parts too but I swear there was not one single start to finish sex scene in it that I can remember. Talk of using condoms and stuff but never truly "seeing" it. there were foreplay scenes and they were great More...

Hilarious doesn't even begin to describe the humor and "laugh out loud" writing this book has accomplished.
I had real tears in my eyes at one point, and then had to recover myself so I could continue reading this book in one sitting.
Very entertaining.
The geek, Jack had great clips of dialogue that kept me interested and made me cheer for him to get the girl.
When he does~you will find yourself hooting and hollaring.
This is a terrific contemporary romance, with all the stops pulled out to impress. More...

I really enjoyed Vicki Lewis Thompson's "Nerd" series. Writing that flows easily, with quirky heroines and not-so-typical heroes. Fun books who's main characters get in trouble in unusual ways.
I was delighted to find a romance book that had nerdy, geeky guys as heroes instead of the tall-dark-handsome cookie-cutter hero. Thompson shows us all just how hot and sexy those geeks can be. I mean, just think of the possibilities with a lover who is intense, dedicated, unswerving and pays a great atten More...

I have to say right off the bat that I am not one for Beta heros. I like mine rough and cocky and pumping so full of testosterone that their muscles threaten to consume them whole. But I love Vicki I think she's great and I'll pretty much read anything put infront of me. Of course I thought I had already read this book but infact I had not.
At first I wasn't really very fond of Gen. I didn't like her and infact even though she might have been sort of nice to our nerdy hero I didn't think it was More...

Nerd In Shining Armor was a sweet read that had me smiling from start to finish. Genevieve Terrence is a secretary in a large company and she's looking for luck to improve her position in life. When Nick Brogan, a co-owner of the company, asks her to fly to Maui with him to attend a meeting, she jumps at the chance. Even though Genevieve knows Nick is looking for sex, her hopes are pinned on convincing him to fall in love with her. Genevieve and Nick are both disgusted when Jackson Farley enters More...

This book cements Vicki Lewis Thompson as my guilty pleasure read. Her writing isn't inspired or literary or particularly deep, but it is immensely entertaining.
