One of the stories in this volume hit so close to home I actually got emotional while reading it :-(

I really liked the stories in this volume... all except the last one. This was the first time one storyline had been split up between two chapters. Unfortunately, the story itself was confusing and seemed a little out of place. Even after reading it, I have no idea what that story was about or what purpose iit served. And I hope the stories go back to awesomeness in volume 8.

Tan-Yui :I want to go traveling with you, I want to see all the Mushi you talk about...
Ginko: Just maybe I'll live that long,I don't know I might be eaten by a Mushsi.

Tan-Yuu: Even then, you'll still live.

What a beautiful ending.

And now I have officially finished Mushishi, although I've regrettably read it out of order. I'll miss the lush artwork, fantastic stories, and Ginko's awesome face. Seriously, Ginko makes some of the best facial expressions ever. Time to read more of Yukio Urushibara's works yeah?

It’s a mushi called Kodama, and it’s taken the form of froth.’ (page 16) The tree lives longer than the normal tree of its kind, and Kodama can also give people long life and beauty.

In this volume, the series finally reaches a point the anime hasn't covered so the stories were fresh and new. There seemed to be a lot more horror in this particular book than in others, though the horror came in all forms from 'classic' to 'unsettling'. It was good to see some old characters return too. My only complaint would be that the last story in the book was so open ended. I spent a lot of time afterwards wondering what the author wanted us to take away from that particular story, but p ...more

The art in these still is excellent, and by far my favorite of the stories in here was the 2-part story of The Ragged Road.
