My kids liked it, but I think they didn't get the historical significance of it all-a pirate and a queen doing battle with their toy boats. It made us all smile, though.

This is a hilarious story about a toy ship battle between a pirate and a queen. Dare I ruin it for you?

An odd book about a retired Pirate and a retired Queen who meet in central park and the battle that ensues.

In this book, a "retired pirate" and a "retired queen" engage in a toy boat battle in Central Park, because the Queen refuses to share the pond with the other users (mostly children, of course).
Eventually the battle is called for naptime, and the queen shares the waters again.
The book is charmingly illustrated, and the city-specific details are well-written. Please note that this edition is oversized, and may be difficult to shelve.

What I learned from this book:
When pirates and queens retire, they can not help but relive their lives in front of young children...
Plus, I liked the pictures.

I frankly adore this book and think it's hilarious, but the ludicrious humor is really much funnier for adults than kids.
