What makes Night Play a cut above the rest in the Dark Hunter seris, is the fact that it's totally character driven. (For me, it's always about the character.) I adored the heroine, Bride. She's a real woman and her feelings are so well expressed (by showing not telling,) SK hits dead on with this one.

The book starts out with Bride being dumped by her selfish boyfriend of 5 yrs. The hero, Vane, is alpha male to the max, of course the fact that he's what basically amounts to a werewolf in Kenyon's world has a lot to do with that.

Vane is totally focused on she-who-is-to-become-his-mate from the get go. Most of us average never-been-a-cheerleader-non-101-lb women know it's pure fantasy to believe that a man, gorgeous and ripped, would fall for us so completely and totally- but that doesn't mean we don't enjoy the fantasy of it! AND Most every woman wants her man to think she's the most beautiful creature on earth and long to be told that, as well as shown. Vane does it spades. And that's what makes one fall for him and this book too.

After years of verbal abuse by her ex, Bride's ready for some attention like Vane dishes out, even though she can hardly believe she deserves it.

There is a scene where Vane asks her to meet him at her favorite restaurant- the one which the ex never took her too because he didn't want to be seen with her, unfortunately when she arrives Vane is nowhere to be found and reservations have not been made. She stands outside only to realize her ex is coming up on her with a perfect babe on his arm. They snicker like high-schoolers at Bride and saunter in while she stands outside clutching her shawl around her, attempting to make herself invisible and thinking she's been stood up.

Right then I fell in love with the story. The first part was too unbelievable, (Vane and Bride get it on a little to early in the story AND c'mon he's just too sexy to be believed.)

But feeling like an idiot because you actually felt good about yourself for awhile only to be knocked back down into the crab pot of life once again? That I can buy into.

Never fear, Vane rescues her in stellar fashion. And, despite the typical Knight in Shining Armor cliche, the story plays out to a satisfying end.(less)

Wow. Wowowow. How do I even start this? I wish I could get all of my feelings down in words! I absolutely loved Night Play and it was apparently exactly what I needed after a minor reading slump thanks to all the uni literature. Gosh, it was fantastic! I never realized just how much I missed this world with all of its wonderful characters before now.

I was only supposed to pick it up to read part of the sample; I was trying to decide which book to pick up next, and quickly got my answer after having finished over 50% in a few hours. I actually had to force myself to put it down, and as soon as I woke up I picked it right back up, only to finish it in one sitting.

I really loved finding out more about the were-hunters and getting to know everyone even better. I want more of their stories! And Vane... wow. I fell head over heels for this strong man, who's also one of the most caring men I think I've ever come across. He definitely deserved to finally find true love! And oh, Bride! She was without a doubt perfect for him and I loved how they healed each other.

My heart was beating like crazy for these two throughout the story! Night Play was definitely the best book in the series so far, and I'm left craving more. And after Bride's meeting with Valerius, I'm super curious about the next one! (Which I already have ready, of course!) If you haven't started this series yet, you definitely should; Kenyon is amazing!

Ash smirked. "The lady says dance, Justin. Get your panther ass out here."
Bride laughed as everyone, including Ash, started doing the Macarena. This had to be the strangest moment of her life.'

Night Play was a wonderful read for me, its my #1 favorite book so far in this series. I know I have many more to read, so I will definitely have more that I will love just the same,but for now this book is on my top favorites.

My first ever DH book, I can't believe it:) it feels like... well last year haha, way back when I don't know there's a Goodreads site...happy memories:)

There's so much information on who, what, where and how these characters came from especially the Hero, but it was explained in every detailed in the beginning,which got me interested in the first place. So...I won't going to tackle that anymore but I'll make some rambling thoughts about the Hero and Heroine and also why I love this book!:)

A lot of young women will ignore a lot of very bad habits in men if they're good looking enough, drive a great car (or in my case, motorcycle), or have enough money. Then we grow up, which a lot of us feel is a very good thing. But what isn't good is the impetus for maturing.

Let me be a little personal here. I used to go after bad boys with "problems". I just knew I could fix them, make them better, and then they would love me. My mom said I was out to save the world one loser at a time. The problem with that is those kinds of guys can't be fixed, and they really seem to love to spread their poison to anyone who tries to get close to them. One loser in particular stands out in my memory, and he was every reason my taste in men changed.

Not that he was particularly hot or sexy, but being lovestruck, I thought he was. Tattoed, long hair, high school drop out. He treated me like dirt under his shoes and I begged him for more. After being told I was fat one too many times, and that I wasn't pretty enough, and that maybe if I would stop acting so damn smart he would love me, a light bulb went off in my head. Epiphany is hard to spell, but even harder to recognize. After five years of torment, I finally had enough bad boy to last me the rest of my life.

So what does this have to do with the book review? I'm sure you're all dying to know. Night Play is a Dark Hunter book, and it is my favorite. Bride, the lead female, had a boyfriend who treated her poorly. She wasn't a size 6, perfect little cookie cutter woman, and he made sure she knew it. He would make comments about her weight, what she was eating, and finally, he dumped her in a most degrading way. He wrote her a letter, basically telling her he needed someone better than she could ever be. I know how it feels to be told something like that, and I immediately felt her humiliation. So after a long relationship of being told all these bad things about herself, she didn't really see herself as attractive and worthy of love from a good man.

Vane Kattalakis was a man (well, a wolf really) who saw more than just the good in her. She was the most beautiful woman to him. From the moment he saw her, he was drawn to Bride in a way he couldn't understand. Of course, as a were-hunter, Vane had his own hang ups and family issues. Growing up in a pack of wolves, he had very different socialization experiences than humans and wasn't exactly sure how humans courted.

Their first meeting was the kind of encounter that would make even an unromantic person like me giddy. I guess I should say it did make even an unromantic person like me giddy. Vane went into Bride's store, bought a beautiful - and expensive - necklace, had her gift wrap it, and then walked away, leaving it on the counter. She yelled after him that he forgot it and his response melted my heart. "No, I left it with the woman I wanted to have it." Then he made a comment about how beautiful women should have beautiful things, and because Bride was so unaccustomed to hearing anyone say that she was beautiful, she started crying. He made it all better by taking her into the dressing room and making wild love to her. Awesome first sex scene.

Throughout the book, Bride continually questions why this very sexy man would want someone so imperfect. When the man who unceremoniously dumped her decided to try to cause problems for her, Vane came to her rescue in a way that brought out my love for bad boys again, not that I ever truly lost that spark, really. The fates had decided that Vane and Bride were destined to be mates, human and were-hunter, and it was so endearing to watch Vane protect her until she could trust that his attraction and love for her were genuine. He healed a lot of gaping wounds left by years of being told she was less than because she wasn't our society's ideal.

Of course, there are hot scenes throughout the entire book, and the description of Vane makes me a little breathless. Ponytail, tight t-shirt, all those things I left behind, only in a character who isn't another loser to be saved from himself. Vane knew how to treat the woman he adored, and that is really how every woman deserves to be treated. Sure, not all the time because let's face it. If our men were erect for us 24/7 and we responded in kind, work would never get done and the human race would perish from starvation, albeit the end would be lusty enough that I'm pretty sure I wouldn't even notice the hunger.

Most of the Dark Hunter books are good, but I think like the Brothers, there are hunters each woman will be drawn to for different reasons. Vane is the hunter that touched me the most, and his mate was a woman I really liked too. If I could live in these books, I would and I recommend them to everyone I know. So go read them and then we'll have another common set of warriors to slobber over, ladies.(less)

Li-o em dia e meio, se calhar nem isso. Gostei bastante do Vane; Achei este livro muito levezinho, muito calminho...

Apesar de tudo, gostei bastante de ver o Ash com a Marissa! E gostei de conhecer um pouco mais a Marissa, visto que ela já tinha aparecido, mas neste livro fez uma aparição mais longa. E além de já ter lido o Acheron (não consegui resistir-lhe), ainda fiquei surpresa do quão altruísta o Ash pode ser.

Bride’s ex-boyfriend is a total jack-ass, the way he treated her and the way her broke-up with her, writing that she didn’t meet up with his image standards. Vane es tan duro y suave al mismo tiempo, la forma en que decide luchar contra sus propios sentimientos solo por el bien de Brice me ha hecho amarlo, como aun cuando ella se encontraba así misma tan poco atractiva e insignificante el pudo ver cosas maravillosas en ella, y la amo por todo eso.

En cierta forma me puedo sentir identificada con muchas de las cosas que Bride sentía estando con Vane, y creo que esto también influye en la forma en la que me metí totalmente en el libro. Creo que ninguno de los anteriores los había terminado tan rápido como este.

La relación de estos protagonistas viene desde Night Embrace, ahora entiendo lo importante que es leer cada libro. En este libro (ya que es la historia de un Were-Hunter) se puede aprender más sobre ellos, que si bien en los libros anteriores no les tome mucha importancia me parece que tienen unas historias increíbles.

Me encanto que tiene bastante humor, me encontre a mi misma riendo hasta soltar un par de lagrimas en muchas ocasiones.

Las historias muchas veces puedes pensar que son básicas y todo eso, pero lo que realmente te engancha es la historia de cada uno de sus personajes, las personalidades mismas de la protagonistas. Porque no son simples historias eróticas basadas en el sexo sin sentido, muchos de los encuentros entre los personajes están llenos de emociones.

Admirando siempre la forma en que Sherrilyn le da a cada uno de sus personajes una historia totalmente cautivadora. Me encanta cada uno de ellos tantos los malos como los buenos, Sherrilyn tiene un talento excepcional para crear sus historias y personajes, hace sin duda cada uno de sus libros únicos.

Again.... Sherrilyn Kenyon surprised me with this story.
I am starting to get a good feeling about the series.... there were a lot of things I liked about this one...

My initial reaction is of sympathy with Bride. Arent we all girls always worried about how we look, our weight, our "perceived"beauty? I felt here really genuine. It was refreshing a story where the female is not georgeous, skinny and hot.
Normal girls deserve their happiness as well!

Bride is quite a nice girl.. a little naughty for letting Vane get her so easy in their first encounter but well.. with such a guy I can totally forgive her!

I did not expect Vane to turn out to be such a great guy.. I felt him quite arrogant in the previous stories.. but once you get to know him, what is not to like! especially when you realize he trully represents an unwanted child.. and by both parents! that is a difficult way to grow up... (that made me want to go and hug my mom and dad! I guess some are luckier than others).

I liked that Vane tried to get her attention doing things her way, even though he wanted to take into his animal side and claim her. That speaks tons about the character of an individual.
It would be really nice if in reality, individuals could meet and realize they are meant to be together by a mark appearing in your hands, like Bride/Vane...! that would simplify life 99%!
the whole thing about the Dad of Bride being the "neuterer" was hilarious! loved it!

I also liked the epiphany Bride had while speaking with her sister. If you live your life according to what others dictate, you will never be happy. The idea that a handsome guy can not possibly love a not skinny girl, is just ridiculous. As long as both persons feel connected, respect and trust each other, then what is the problem?
I guess the perception of beauty depends on the values of each individual as well. For some it is just having a person loving you trully and treating you like a queen.. for others is all about showing off what you got...

In my personal point of view, this was a nice introduction/sideway to the world of the were-hunters and how they relate to the dark hunters. in the beginning I was a little esceptic about reading it, but once I started it could not leave it down until I finished.

Overall... again I got surprised with the turn of events of the story. Loved it and can not wait to continue!(less)

His brother, Fang, is seriously injured after they were both betrayed and Vane's focus is to see to Fang's safety and healing.

He certainly isn't looking for a mate. He isn't even looking for a little short-term female attention.

Then he meets Bride McTierney. She's everything he's looked for in a woman; well-rounded, intelligent and loving. She's also sworn off men after being dumped - by FedEx - by her now ex-fiance. She certainly doesn't expect serious attention from a man as stunning as Vane. She prefers the wolf that has started hanging around her.

These two people are not exactly what fated lovers are supposed to be. For one thing, they aren't even the same species, which is about as big as barriers can get. Add to that the fact Vane is on the run as well as being caught up in a long-time family feud and romance doesn't seem to stand much of a chance. As for Bride, once she learns Vane's big secret and begins to understand the situation, she faces a world she never knew existed, new enemies and the possibility her children might be puppies.

Kenyon has created a detailed and complex mythology for her ever-expanding series. She's done a lot of work and this adds great depth to her books. However, it can also be very confusing and sometimes distracting for the reader. I have to admit that I still haven't got it all straight and I've even joined a discussion list to help me work it all out. Night Play harks back to the earlier books, without the machinations of gods, goddesses and great fates. I enjoyed it for exactly that reason. As much as it can be fun to work out all the hints and little revelations, sometimes it is nice just to sit back and devour a story. That's what I got to do this time.

Bride is a wonderful heroine and one I could relate to. For one thing, she's a little plump - and that's one of the things Vane loves about her. All of us "larger" women can relate to the power of that. She takes all the new things in her life well, but not automatically.

There is less angst in this book that some of the others - and certainly than there will be in the next one, which is Valerius's story - and that made it a lovely relaxing read while I was away from home.

Eureka! I was reading the series of events from the other brother's point of view. Boy, did I feel dumb when I realized why I was confused.

This book had its fair share of romance and action, but it just wasn't as compelling as I usually find Sherrilyn Kenyon's books to be. The sex was OK, but not the make-ya-squirm good I've come to expect from Ms. Kenyon (In one book, the two main characters don't even have sex until near the end of the book, but the interactions they do have are fine examples of unresolved sexual tension.). The characters were mere shadows of themselves, even the ones I already know from reading other books in the Dark-Hunter universe.

The heroine, Bride, was a solid size 18, with self-esteem issues galore, just as many of us with size dramas are. Vane, the brother in question, was naturally a magnetic, powerful, sexy, hot, etc. magical wolfman, with a tight end and washboard abs and cruise ships full of money. Bride's self-esteem issues were magically borne away on the wind when she realized that Vane wanted her, all of her, as she was, and not some skinny chick who was "more sexy." I know that in the first glows of newfound love, self-esteem issues sometimes seem to disappear, but really, they don't. They just take a back seat. Knowing that your man finds you sexy doesn't mean that you still don't wonder what other people think of you. In Bride's case, she found out exactly what her sister thought of her, for instance.

To be honest, though, I think the book could have been better if size was not an issue in the first place. I know that I despair of ever reading good books written with heroines who are more than a size 14. There are some out there, but they are few and far between. The best ones are written by women who have actually been there and come back from the trip. Queen Latifah, who is a very sexy large woman, probably hasn't always been as comfortable in her skin as she is now, and I bet it wasn't easy to find her true self among the garbage. But I digress. In this case, such an issue was made of Bride's size and her emotional baggage that the "easy fix" was a letdown.

Vane is just too perfect, perhaps more so than other heroes in Ms. Kenyon's book, and maybe because his perfection was described at so much length by Bride herself, in her thoughts and conversations, as comparisons to her own "shortcomings." As the hero of the book, Vane should have been easier to peg, but his characterization is pretty shallow in this book. I actually prefer the Vane I got to know in the book where his brother, Fang, finds his own mate. In this one, so much of his time is spent agonizing over whether or not Bride can understand his world, hiding his magic from her, calling in favors to protect her when she doesn't even know she needs protecting, pretending to be someone else (his wolf persona) so that he can be close to her without scaring her, etc., that I never really got to know HIM at all, just what he can do. He's too perfect for words (ok, weak and unintended pun), and as such, not really appealing to me.

So, though I did enjoy reading how Vane and Bride met, I didn't enjoy it as much as I "should" have enjoyed it, considering Sherrilyn Kenyon wrote it and considering that she's one of my favorite paranormal authors. This could easily have been written into the other book, as an alternating viewpoint kind of thing, though the characterization flaws would have stuck out like a pimple on your nose. (less)

It's hard to keep writing meaningful reviews of these books without starting to repeat myself. Even though the only similarity between them are the fact that all of the books are amazing and that they involve either a dark-hunter or a were-hunter.

I just feel like all I've said in the last 6-7 reviews is how awesome the books are. I know it's getting old but there's not much else to say. The books are amazing. One after another they bring a little piece of information about the dark-hunters' world and about Acheron and they are always interesting and passionate and very addictive.
I simply start to love every new character because they are always very different than those before them and they bring their own history and pain and/or happiness and the story just becomes more colorful for the hundred/thousand year olds hunters that walk the dark streets of New Orleans( not always but still most of the action is in that city).
In this book we met Vane Kattalakis again. After first seeing him in Night Embrace I could think of only one person that he might end up with and I was right. But still it was precious to read the book and to see his history through his and his mates eyes. I got to know the person behind the wolf mask and behind the pretty face and gorgeous body. His pain was very strong like most of Sherrilyn Kenyon's characters but yet so different.
His fights with the Fates were of a different kind even though he fought to keep his loved ones safe too.
Another thing I also liked in this book was Bride McTierney. I think she became one of my favorite humans in the entire series and I truly felt for her in the beginning. Her story was the closest it gets to normal in this series and that was just too important to miss. Her broken heart and her insecurities were real and it was really easy to relate to her character. I also loved how she didn't start trusting Vane right away. Yes she felt for him, there was a strong connection but she was scared of him in the beginning and that was the normal reaction that every woman should have, of course that's after she gets her eyes away from his gorgeous body and look into the guys eyes.
I somehow believe that after living hundreds of years killing to protect those in need of protection(in Vane's case, it was those he loved most, his family) , you kind of have an aura around you that shows people not to mess with you and no matter the looks that should be enough for some bells in woman's heads to start ringing....
Okay I started to babble so I'll stop now. I just want to say that this was the most realistic book of them all so far considering what's it about. I thing that's what I loved most about it, that and Vane and Fury.... :D(less)

Vane é fascinante! Vulnerável quando necessário, corajoso quando é preciso... Sherrilyn Kenyon não poderia ter sido mais feliz na execução desta personagem. Sólida, de carácter forte mas também flexível e que cativa o leitor desde a sua primeira fala.
Depois temos Bride, uma mulher cujas medidas físicas são mais voluptuosas, insegura e de coração partido.. é impossível não nos identificarmos com esta personagem, principalmente sendo mulher. Bride é uma mulher inteligente, e a a representação da mulher comum nesta saga.
Além de divertido e sensual, este livro tem também um lado mais triste e sentimental do que o normal, devido à morte de Anya, ao passado de Fury, ao estado actual de Fang, e ao facto de os pais destes lobos, os quererem ver pelas costas, e mortos de preferência!
Mas, graças a Acheron terão o castigo mais adequado.
Um livro de páginas reduzidas, mas nas quais temos muita estória e um trabalho brilhante por parte da autora, sendo este, o volume mais fraternal e terno de toda a saga, pelo menos até agora.
Leitura rápida, acessível e divertida, com muita acção e sensualidade, nada a que a autora já não nos tenha habituado.
"Jogos na Noite" surpreenderam-me imenso, pois deliciou-me com um casal sensacional e perfeito, assim como as ricas personagens secundárias, e até mesmo algumas das quais tinha péssima ideia, que era o caso de Valério, mas algo me diz que no seu livro ficarei a saber mais pormenores sobre a sua verdadeira natureza, algo que Bride já conseguiu descortinar, embora em pouca medida.
Recomendo a todas e todos os românticos!(less)

Il Gioco della Notte (Night Play) è il quinto volume della serie Dark Hunters, ma soprattutto è il primo volume della serie Were-Hunters.
Anzi parlare di Dark Hunters in questo caso è quasi “esagerato” in quanto è un libro che molto probabilmente è nato più come spin-off che non come elemento della serie principale. I cacciatori oscuri qui sono praticamente assenti, compaiono brevemente Acheron (che non può assolutamente mancare, anche se poco), Kyrian e Valerius. Ma non sono particolarm...more Premessa…

Anzi parlare di Dark Hunters in questo caso è quasi “esagerato” in quanto è un libro che molto probabilmente è nato più come spin-off che non come elemento della serie principale. I cacciatori oscuri qui sono praticamente assenti, compaiono brevemente Acheron (che non può assolutamente mancare, anche se poco), Kyrian e Valerius. Ma non sono particolarmente importanti nello schema generale del romanzo.
Poi penso che, essendo piaciuto tanto (dato che i commenti anche su goodreads sono molto buoni) e volendo i nuovi personaggi incontrati avere la loro parte di notorietà (dato che come ben sanno gli scrittori, i personaggi prendono spesso anima e corpo e pretendono storie proprie), si è meritato di diventare il primo di questa sotto-serie…quella dei Cacciatori Mannari.
Chi è già addentro al mondo creato dalla Kenyon saprà che i personaggi creati da questa autrice sono innumerevoli e articolati anche in sotto gruppi (tanto che alle volte si fa fin fatica a tenerli tutti a mente e ci si deve quindi calare nell’ottica di non badarci troppo altrimenti si rischia di esserne sopraffatti) e non rimarrà questo l’unico esempio di sotto-serie infiltratasi nella più grande categoria.
Ma veniamo al romanzo
Dopo l’ultimo viaggio che ci ha portati a Wulf e Cassandra … torniamo a New Orleans, città teatro degli eventi di “L’abbraccio della notte” con protagonisti Talon e Sunshine.
E’ stato in questo romanzo che abbiamo incontrato per la prima volta Vane, accorso in aiuto di Talon per proteggere Sunshine… e per questa sua scelta -piuttosto inconsueta per un cacciatore mannaro- ritrovatosi poi a subire un attacco da parte dei demoni apollinei al proprio branco. Attacco che ha portato alla morte dell’amata sorella, l'unica assieme al fratello Fang che fa parte della sua VERA famiglia. Ed è questo l'evento scatenante che fa si che Vane e Fang si ritrovino, nelle prime pagine del libro, a lottare per la propria vita appesi ai rami di un albero aggettante una palude, in cui coccodrilli affamati aspettano solo il momento dell'imminente caduta.
Saranno i poteri e la forte volontà di Vane a salvarli, anche dal successivo attacco di demoni apollinei decisi a succhiare loro anima e poteri che però lascia Fang in uno stato catatonico dovuto allo shock da cui Vane non riesce a farlo uscire. Rifugiatosi al Sanctuary locale gestito da una famiglia di orsi mannari che mantengono il posto neutrale per ogni creatura paranormale che abbia bisogno di un porto sicuro, Vane deve decidere come salvarsi dalla condanna a morte ordinata dal suo stesso padre, capo del suo vecchio branco.
Ed è a questo punto che entra in scena Bride.
Completamente umana, ma soprattutto completamente ignara di questo mondo sotterraneo che vive e respira attorno a lei, è appena stata lasciata da quel bastardo opportunista del suo fidanzato che non ha fatto altro che approfittarsi di lei e cercare di cambiarla.
E qui stà il bello di questo romanzo…Bride è un’eroina alquanto atipica, soprattutto in questi romanzi dove la parte femminile è solitamente bella quanto la sua controparte maschile è aitante.
Ok, non che Bride non sia bella, ma è quella che tutti definiremmo una donna morbida, in carne.
Insomma…è cicciottella. Cosa che le ha sempre dato dei grossi problemi (e come non capirla! Siam tutti li a controllare i kili che aumentano ;) ) soprattutto nelle relazioni con l’altro sesso.
Quando vede entrare nel suo negozio l’uomo più bello e “in forma” che abbia mai visto, perciò, teme che abbia brutte intenzioni…di certo non immagina che sia entrato per rivedere lei.
Rivedere perché Vane ha incontrato per la prima volta Bride mentre stava proteggendo Sunshine e ne era rimasto subito ammaliato. Ed è lei l’unica che ha risvegliato in modo tanto prepotente i suoi istinti animali…e meraviglia ancor più grande quelli protettivi che solitamente sono rivolti alla Compagna per la vita. Peccato che la sua vita sia momentaneamente (e probabilmente per un bel po’) incasinata all’inverosimile…e il pensiero d'una compagna sia il più lontano fra tutti.
Conclusione…
A differenza dei precedenti volumi, che man mano stanno svelando il mondo dei Dark Hunters e degli estremamente complessi legami che scorrono appena sotto la superficie, questo romanzo prende un momento di pausa da tutto e crea una bolla di dolcezza veramente indescrivibile. La storia di Vane e Bride esce dagli ultimi schemi per raccontare una storia comune incastonandola in una montatura magica dove l'amore e la fiducia in se stessi la fanno da padrone.
Un romanzo che è il sogno che ogni ragazza –che sia formosa o meno- coltiva dietro le coltri del suo letto, nel buio della propria camera.
Un bellissimo romanzo che realizza i sogni più reconditi dei romantici più sfegatati, nella speranza sempiterna che un amore tanto forte possa esistere anche nella realtà.(less)

As a Were-Hunter, Vane Kattalakis was placed under a curse at birth which spliced his essence. When his 27th birthday came, he was horrified with his transformation of becoming a human. There are two different species as an outcome of attempting to prolong life after the age of 27. The two species are known as the Katagaria and the Arcadians. When they come of age, the Katagaria shift from animals to humans while the Arcadians do the exact opposite. The changes are horrifying at first and the species must learn to adapt to their new bodies. All the while they must stay hidden from their enemies because this world is a fend for yourself world.
Born to a Katagaria father who had taken his Arcadian mother against her will and violated her by raping her, Vane struggles to live peacefully among his pack. After they realize that Vane and his brother and sister take after their mother, they make an effort to kill them off yet only succeeding with taking Vane’s sister’s life. For this reason, Vane’s father who has only loved his daughter sends Daimons to hunt and kill off his sons, hence the start of the novel when Vane and his brother Fang are hanging above a pit of crocodiles hanging as bait by their wrists.
In the mean time, Bride McTierney has just received a break up letter from her fiancé that was only using her to get a job. Although Bride knows that she is being used, she has fallen so deeply for her ex-fiancé that she cries in her shop where Vane happens to see her after he escapes and brings his paralyzed brother to an Arcadian Bear Household. The novel says that he has been mesmerized by Bride ever since the night he first met her, but since I have not read the other novels, I do not know of how they first meet.
Devastated by her sadness, Vane comforts her and for some odd reason although they do not know each other, they end up going into the backroom to have a private moment, if you know what I mean? After they have a moment to themselves and they leave each other to go eat, both realize that they have received strange marks on their arms. To Bride it is just something random that will go away, but to Vane, it means something entirely different. His time is already ticking away, leaving him with only 3 weeks to prove to Bride that they are meant to be together or else he will not be able to have children and will have to spend the rest of his existence alone. But how can he convince, Bride when she does not even know that he is a wolf? Did I already mention how he is being hunted by his father’s minions? So how can he make her fall for him when she is being endangered by his very existence?
Kenyon writes the truth, which is what I like about her novel. She does not use the typical skinny and pretty girl. She writes about a girl that has a heart with good intentions who is insecure about herself. Although Bride is not skinny like a model, she has insecurities like anyone and that is what speaks to me the most. She lives, she hopes, and she dreams for the future. For this reason, I applaud Kenyon’s writing. Kenyon is basically saying that everyone is unique that way and that we should be accepting of our flaws and love ourselves first before we can be loved by someone else. It is just that sometimes we need to meet that certain someone before we realize that we are fine just the way we are.
The only thing that I was not really fond of was the plentiful intimacy scenes. I do not really enjoy that type of reading. Also I found that Kenyon reiterates herself a lot throughout her novel. This is good for if you picked up one of her novels and have not read the previous ones, but after you understand the plot, I feel as if she uses a lot of repetition. Other then that, I enjoyed the novel and would recommend it to others.
As for the rest, to find out whether or not they end up together, you will just have to read the novel to find out.

He’s now on the run, grieving for his sister, worried for his comatose brother and fleeing the attention of his father’s pack – and even his mother launching attacks across time.

And then he meets Bride, a woman with whom he is destined to mate – and if she doesn’t accept the mating in the next 3 weeks, he is doomed to a life of celibacy. But is avoiding this fate – and being with the woman he loves – really worth risking Bride’s life; a human who knows nothing of the supernatural world.

He now has the uphill battle of protecting Bride, adapting to human society and introducing Bride to the hidden world, all under fire from his parents – and deciding whether to truly try and make a life with Bride or not.

I think this book set a new record for a Dark Hunter’s book for speed in which the relationship was established. There’s Vane, walking down the street, worried because his brother’s in a coma, worried about his dad and pack leader who wants him dead and grieving for his dead sister Anya. And then he sees Bride! The most beautiful woman in the world! And she is sad! There must now be hot/hard/sexiness and then kissing then making out and then the hot monkey sex! HUZZAH!

And there is Bride. She’s sad because her arsehole boyfriend dumped her - but then she sees Vane! And he is so hot/sexy/awesome! Bring on the kissing and the making out and the hot monkey sex! HUZZAH!

As far as complex romances go it’s not exactly the most nuanced or complex of beginnings. 2 people see each other. Think they’re both hot. Sex happens, magic steps in to firmly stamp Twu Luv on things. They have 3 weeks to decide to bond in metaphysical marriage or Vane will be forever celibate.

suka banget sama tokoh fantasy warewolf keren atau shape shifter wolfie, hohoho....kali ini tokoh kita adalah Vane..digambarkan nyaris sempurna kayak dewa yunani, hehehehe..nama belakangnya aja Kattalakis jadi cocok ya, maksa.com ;)

Vane yang digambarkan sebagai sosok sempurna ditambah pandai berinvestasi, bahasa keren nya co tajir ternyata kesepian. Tidak dikehendaki oleh ayah dan ibunya malah dikejar2 buat dibunuh ditambah lagi dengan adik nya tersayang yang koma, hiks... tapi semua itu terlup...more
