Second book in Novak's The Last Stand series. I'm giving it the same rating as the first book, 4-stars, but I liked it more than the first one. While the first one was borderline 3-4 stars, this one solid 4 stars.

Like the first book, this one focuses on The Last Stand victims support organization and the three women who founded it. This book features Jasmine Stratford. Sixteen years earlier, her little sister was kidnapped while Jasmine babysat her, completely destroying her family. The sister w
I enjoyed how dark this book was and the New Orleans/swamp setting was a neat location. The setting just seemed to make everything creepier. I thought the romantic leads had a lot of depth in this book and I loved the love story aspect of it. Unfortunately, there were two plot aspects that were extremely unbelievable to me which really had the effect of pulling me out of the story.

1) I liked the psychic aspect of the story but I found it incredibly unbelievable that someone could become a profil
This book was just as good as the first one in the series, Trust Me. Lots of twists and it held my attention til the end. A great read!

I obviously do not have an adequate respect for proper sleeping rituals. I’m obviously very good at convincing myself that “It won’t take long to finish the rest of this book.”

But anyway…

Jasmine Stratford’s younger sister was abducted sixteen years ago and never found; Jasmine was barely a pre-teen at the time. The incident tore her family up and forced Jasmine away from her former loving and warm home, wandering until she managed to get her life back together. And so now she’s a victims’ advoca
The second book in the Last Stand series delivers a bigger payoff on each point that the first book, Trust Me, might have lacked. This is a relationship that plays out better, a mystery that is more engrossing, and a plot line that takes you higher and further than you went in the first book.

That being said, you could get away with reading this by itself without having read the first book, because the characters from the first are barely glimpsed, and their back story isn't really mentioned. He

This book was very well written with a slight physic twist - the heroine gets flashes of events, from items and areas. It helps her to do her job, which includes profiling for the FBI, assisting in finding kidnapped children and missing people.

I didn't know until I finished the story that this was actually the second in a series. It had good characters, who played off each other, with a select group of people who worked together, playing several side plots off the main story where Jasmine is sea
loved it
The book started out OK, although I was hesitant to read it because I learned from the previous book that the main character in this one had psychic abilities. I normally don't read books with psychic aspects in them just because they get weird, and quite frankly I like when people solve puzzles without freaky mind powers.

I ended up liking Jasmine, even with her gobbledegook powers. She wasn't always "reading" things, but she did crawl into Romains dream which I felt was a huge invasion of his t

Wow!! After reading the first book in the Last Stand trilogy I didnt think Stop Me could ever be as good, but I was wrong! The storyline was never dull, and was always unpredictable, and for me thats the best kind. Jasmine and Romain are thrust together when Jaz gets a note from her sisters kidnapper, that connects her case to the kidnapping and murder of Romain's daughter. No matter how much either of them tried to deny the attraction between them, it was impossible to ignore. Throughout this w ...more
This was much better than the first book in the trilogy in terms of plot, pacing, and engaging the reader. That being said, I was able to determine who the "bad guy" was about half way through the book, and I think the author intended that to be a surprise twist ending....thinly veiled in this case. I have the third in the series awaiting me, let's see if author further hones her craft. If she improves as much as she did from book ont to two, it should be a great book!!!

After reading the first book in the Last Stand series by Brenda Novak, I was looking forward to reading this one. It definitely did not disappoint. The adventure was nonstop, the mystery involved heart-wrenching, and the romance healing. The first two books in the series are so good, that the third book is already next in my to be read library! As with all of her books that I have read so far, Brenda Novak does not disappoint!
I'm reading these books quickly as they have a big mystery suspense component. I'm not getting into the romance aspect in them as much as I would like. Maybe as they are just a bit too dark for the holiday season. I'm going to move on to other reading for a bit. I did know who one of the villains was almost right away which is unusual.

I've always loved this author so I hope to get back to this series at a later date.

Good Read

As a guy, I don't really care for all the romance in my novels, but many in the reading audience do want those moments with their characters. With that said, the story was suspenseful at times and keeps you interested long enough to want more. You start to wonder if Jasmine will ever find out what happened to her sister. I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys reading cold cases.

Stop me is the second book in the Last Stand Series and it is my favorite one so far. Once again Novak takes a woman who has had a horrible experience and turns her into a strong woman who tries to help others. Jasmine looses her sister at a young age and when she finds out that she has a chance of finding out the truth she goes down to New Orleans and meets Romain. They don't instantaneously like each other and have a lot of conflict in the beginning. I really liked that Jasmine was a touch psy
Jasmine Stratford is a profiler who has recieved a trinket that belonged to her missing sister. She now believes the man who abducted her is still out there. Although she believes Kimberly is long dead she teams up with the father of a slain child who did time for killing the wrong man to find the real killer and discovers a black market adoption agency. Together they fight a growing attraction as they hunt person they believe responsible for both crimes.

Like the other two Last Stand Mysteries

What can I say? thank you goodreads for introducing me to Brenda Novak, what an excellent author, keeps you guessing this is a 4.5 and it is like a puzzle with Jasmine, who is on the search trying to find out who abducted her 16 yrs ago. You have all the clues and pces you just have to assemble the whole picture, the who's and why's keep you guessing no wonder why i read anywhere from 72 pgs to 150 in a day. Gonna take a quick break from this author and read another one, that they recommended, a ...more
Wow! This book was so much better than the first! The mystery was much more interesting, and the romance aspect made me very happy. Romain was my favorite kind of tortured hero, and though there were some aspects of Jasmine's character that annoyed me, I didn't mind her as a heroine for this man who'd been through so much....maybe because she'd been through a world of hurt herself. Unlike the first book, I felt very emotionally connected to the characters, and was cheering for their HEA.

Last year, I read Trust Me by Brenda Novak. This year, I've read Stop Me, the second book in the Last Stand series. In this series, Jasmine Stratford is looking for her younger sister, Kimberly, who vanished 16 years ago. When she receives a mysterious package on her sister's disappearance. She goes to New Orleans to search for Romain Fornier, a widower who lost his daughter Adele from a kidnapping and was later found dead. At the beginning, they couldn't stand one another. Later, they fall in l ...more
This is the second in a series of novels about women who have been victims of crime and are now partners in a victim's advocate/defense group in Sacramento. In this one, Jasmine heads to New Orleans when she receives a taunting message in the mail from the man she believed kidnapped her younger sister 12 years ago. In the process, she hooks up with an ex-con who went to prison for killing the man he believe kidnapped and murdered his daughter and then was cut loose on a technicality from the jus ...more
A really great read. Kinda predictable, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

I'm not good at reviews so I can say I liked this one a lot!

This book was even better than the first one in the trilogy! I wasn't sure if I'd like Jasmine's book more than I liked Skye's book but I did. The character development is great, there's just enough of relationship drama in the book to add to the storyline while not taking away the focus of the book and there was a whole lot of suspense. I couldn't put the book down and my eyes were watering from the intensity of it. I had to know what was going to happen next and didn't see a lot of it coming. ...more
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the relationship between Jasmine & Romain
This is the second book in The Last Stand series and is fantastic. It keeps you guessing and on the edge of your chair. I couldn't put it down. Jasmine Stafford, from The Last Stand, is the focus of this book, which takes her to New Orleans in search of clues in the 16 years ago kidnapping of her little sister, Kimberly. She meets Romaine Fornier, whose daughter, Adele, was kidnapped and murdered. Are the two tragedies related? If you like suspense with some built in romance, this book is a winn ...more

It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak’s bestselling author career.

“I caught my day-care provider drugging my children with cough syrup and Tylenol to get them to sleep while I was away,” Brenda says. “It was then that I decided that I needed to do something from home.”

However, writing was the last profession she expected to undertake. In fact, Brenda swears she didn’t have a
