Hywela Lyn creates a very vivid and wonderful world in Children of the Mist. Her characters have depth beyond any I have seen in a science fiction novel. She has the ability to give them souls in the literary sense, which is a rare talent. The extensive descriptions of the world she has created forms in the mind almost like the memory of a place once visited.
I enjoyed this story and felt as if it carried me along from beginning to end. There was no effort in trying to understand the plot and I f

This is world-building at its finest. Tamarith fell in love with a man she can never have but meets handsome Vidarh who has abilities beyond most of their people. The people in this world are psychics, but have suddenly fallen prey to a deadly disease. They call for help from some old friends (see Starquest, the first book in this series) and then have to fight off invaders. A nice romance in an interesting world.

Packed with excitement, adventure and cliff-hangers, Children of the Mist also has moments of profound tenderness and beauty, with stunning description of snow, ice-cats, glaciers and mountains. Telepathy features strongly through the novel and I was touched by the way Vidarh and Tamarith fell in love with, and also rescued each other, via telepathy

Descriptive settings makes this book unique. A bitterly cold world where flowers bloom amid the snow? Hmm, the imagery is fantastic as Ms. Lyn takes the reader on a journey to a place where love is least expected, triumphing over an evil purposed to destroy an entire planet.

Highly recommended!

For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed reading and writing Westerns, Science Fiction/Fantasy and Adventure stories - always with a strong romantic element. I have published several short stories, including a Western romance about Wyatt Earp', which was short listed in the Lady Short Story competition and subsequently published in that magazine. I was also shortlisted for a 'Writers News' sho ...more
