This book was.. disappointing.
The plot and the whole idea of the book was good: Husband has double life and both the wife and girlfriend find out and plan to get revenge. It just wasn't executed as well as it could have been. I think the characters were a little vague as I didn't really connect with them. The love interest for the wife, Michael, was sooo boring and dull. No chemistry at all. And then it just seemed to get really boring from then onwards. I must say, I liked the part where they...more

If there's one thing I enjoy reading about, it's cheaters getting their comeuppance. Stephanie has been married to James for a while, and they have a son together. James is a commuter - he spends the end of the week at home with his wife and then Sunday evenings he drives miles away to work at his vetinary practise until the middle of the week. What Stephanie doesn't know is that while he's there, he is living with his "girlfriend", Katie. And Katie is unaware that James still has a wife.

I had mixed feelings while reading this book. I feel anything I have to say about it will come out all incoherant and rambly.
I would be interested to read another book by this author but I think I'd like to read something that doesn't centre around infidelity. It's a touchy subject for me. Reading about it is slightly difficult because my past experiences cloud any enjoyment I might find in a novel like this. That's my own fault.
I guess I had problems with the way the subject was approached. I...more

Some men of a certain age begin to see their wives/life partners as the equivalent of used cars - to be traded in on a younger, sleekier, sexier model. Others choose to have a second model - a little run-about or, as in the case of 'Got You Back', both a town and country model. It's a common feature of the male MLC, here more appropriately framed as the Peter Pan Syndrome - a facet of the yearning to stay 'forever young'. And the James in Fallon's novel has it big time!

Stephanie Mortimer is married to Veterinary James Mortimer and they have a seven year old son Finn. Since moving to London a few years earlier, James wanted to keep up his rural practice near Lincoln and his new vet job close to home. To do this he would leave his family Sunday to get to Lincoln and return home Wednesday. When James would return from his drive home on Wednesday, Stephanie would be sure to be home from work on time and have a nice hot meal ready for him. One day after dinner Jame...more
This book started off really well, the characters were believable and the plot was interesting enough to get me hooked. When the plans for revenge were unfolding between the two women, I couldn't put the book down. I wanted to see what they were going to do to James, and with each new drama, I was drawn further and further in. It was good to see how the consequences of their actions affected others too.

Another treat from Jane Fallon, who has become (of late) my favorite author of British chick lit. This one was a fun, light romp through the world of a cheating spouse and the wife and mistress who each discover they have been duped by James. The wife had no clue her marriage wasn't great until she discovered a text message on her husband's cell, signed with little xxx's and the letter,"K." Katie, the mistress, had been told by James that he was divorced. He was living with both women, because h...more
Got You Back was a treat to read. From the hilarious plotting of Stephanie and Katie to Stephanie's clients being tricked into wearing a more flattering outfit Got You Back is full of laughs. But forget all the laughs, the book also deals with serious issues as well, people's lives being ruined and having to start over and having your life turned upside down when finding out your partner has been living a lie. Got You Back is a great book that covers a lot of ground.

My love for Jane Fallon's work started years before I even started blogging. I remember randomly picking up Getting Rid of Matthew in our local bookshop when I was 17 and instantly falling love with Fallon's writing. I know I loved her style even then but I wasn't really keen on how the story ended and felt that it fell a bit flat. Since I found the author's style so absorbing and so well-written, I knew Got You Back would be another brilliant read...more

This was a funny book. It kept me on my toes wanting to know how everything would turn out. What Katie was going to do to James, and how Stephanie would react when he finally comes out clean. Its funny how even it was sort of hard to put down, there were times when i really hated all of the characters. And how my favourite characters were rarely part of the story, for example, Finn (James and Stephanie's son) - cute and very much into pets and a very smart-cookie, then there is Natasha - worldly...more
Oh dear.... what happened to the brilliant one liners and a genuine anti hero of a character from "getting rid of matthew" that prompted me to read this one.
Believe me, if all chick lit was like this, I would never have attempted another foray into the world of the enemies minds.
This is a flimsey novel that doesnt have a lot going for it.... it is gently amusing, rather than funny and has poor characterisation and story - with the marriage infidelity and divorce as a premise to a bit of gentle s...more

Ok... this book disappointed me. A lot. It started off with soooo much hope, and I was really into it when Katie and Stephanie were planning the revenge on James. And then it fell flat.
I really wanted to see the revenge plan pan out and alas it didn't because James decided to feel guilty and then confessed. I also did not enjoy that the ending just kind of stopped. It was like the story was unfinished.

So this is the second Jane Fallon book I've read where the wife and mistress of a cheating man become friends behind his back. It's a completely different angle but I still found that similarity strange. The men in both books seemed very similar as well - aging professionals with misplaced egos.
This book was also a little slower than the chick lit I usually enjoy. It was OK. I'll probably read more books by Fallon. Just wasn't a favorite.

Very well written. Shows what can happen if you lie and think only about yourself. Also, shows how no matter what happen divorced parents don't need to fight and argue about children or anything else. They can be friends and have friendly feelings for each other.
It's not kids fault that their parents are no longer together. So I think it is a god decision that Stephanie wanted to show Finn that things are not going to be completely different, just a little.

Revenge didn't quite turn out like I expected and that made the book such a page-turner. I couldn't put this down and the various twists gave the story a very realistic feel. The end was a bit of an anti-climax though. But because the rest of the book was awesome I'll still give it four stars. Loved it.
Good writing, weak plot. The description said the characters have the "ultimate plan for revenge" which is not actually the case at all. The book is about 100 pages too long because the plot needs a lot of finagling to be tied up neatly. I enjoyed the first 3/4 but then was mostly waiting for it to be over.
Ooh, Mrs Gervais, you're a feisty one! Remember being a bit disappointed after buying Getting Rid of Matthew, but this one was free with a magazine, so no harm done. Was quite fun up to the climactic scene, then lost its momentum somewhat. Perhaps it would've been better had the women's plan actually come to fruition?
Stephanie, the wife of James finds a random text message from a woman on his mobile phone. After doing a little more snooping around she finds out that her husband has been living a double life with another woman, Katie for a whole year. After confronting Katie and realising that she also had no idea that James was still married, they decided to come together and get revenge on the little bastard.

Very funny in parts, I enjoyed this story of the wife and mistress teaming up to get revenge on the cheating husband. Fallon keeps you hooked with a fast moving plot and plenty of humour, but I felt this lack the 'something' that 'Getting Rid of Matthew' had. Perfect for a holiday read, but read the other one first!
