a Woman Betrayed by Barbara Delinsky
She has a family: husband and 2 kids. She caters food for parties. He's late and he's not called.
Laura had others do the actual catering as she was attending the museum show.
This was so unlike Jeff. Deborah, the teen is also upset he's not showed up. Lyida, the mother in law who Laura
takes care of, takes to doctor appts, grocery shops, etc has not seen him.
Daphne is her best friend over the years and she has no idea where he is.
The story also follows Jeff, he'...more

When I started this book, I was blown away. A tight narrative and cleverly plotted surprises made it unputdownable. However as I drew to the end, the follies surfaced. The virtues became the vices. The same cleverly plotted surprises ended up making it formulaic, almost like a jigsaw puzzle who's pieces fit in right at the end. The ending was too neat to be true. Also the thing that I find with most American writers, their stories are mostly driven by incidents and not by feelings. This makes it...more

A Woman Betrayed by Barbara Delinsky ~ So, how well do you really know someone? Do you actually know what a person you have know for years, someone that you have trusted with your life would be capable of? Well, let me tell you, Laura Frye (the woman betrayed) as the title says, is about to find out what is in store for her. Her "perfect" husband, Jeff, doesn't come home one evening. Of course, Laura and their two kids, Scott and Debra, initially expect the worst. Was he in a horrible accident?...more

Another great read from Delinsky!!

"Laura Frye has everything a woman could ask for. She and her husband, Jeff, a CPA have been happily married for twenty years. Her two teenage kids are terrific. And her catering business is a success. But then Jeff mysteriously disappears, and that picture-perfect life is shattered.

Laura insists that the Jeff she knows would never leave on his own. But as the days go by, she learns there was much more to her husband than she had ever suspected. As Jeff's many s...more

It's been a while since I've picked up a Delinsky book, and this one was annoying. Why I kept going through this book, I don't know. I wanted to grab Jeff by the throat. Really? He doesn't like that his wife cooks, cleans, has a career, plans vacations, takes care of the kids? Poor baby. So, he feels like such a loser that he has to steal money and take off on his wife and kids. She tries to spin a sympathy story around Jeff that does not work. The characters were all shallow and nothing special...more

Another crime novel that kept me on the edge of my seat. The title is "A Woman Betrayed" but I think that EVERYONE was betrayed in some way. I can't forgive the 'hell' that Jeff put his family through because he was to chicken to get out of the marriage in the correct/kind way. Hope he rotts in H E double hockey sticks!! The book does make you look back on your own life and maybe see things that you did because you thought it was right at the time, and later become aware that a better decision c...more

Nothing can ever top my favourite Delinsky, 'The Family Tree', but I still thoroughly enjoyed this. Published in 1991 this is one of her earlier novels, and this is clear from her style of writing and the sometimes awkward-and-unneeded sex scenes. The characters, however, were for the most part very believable and made me want to keep reading so that I could figure out all their dirty secrets. In a sense, 'A Woman Betrayed' is a bit like a soap opera - addictive, character driven and full of twi...more

This is one of the first books I purchased for use in the classroom when I started teaching in 1985. The book itself was first published in 1969 and it is still a very accessible text for todays' students. It won the Book of the Year Award in 1970. This book records a family's efforts to raise a baby owl to maturity. Below is a small extract:

For Uhu it was bound to be trouble from the start. He was one of the inquisitive ones who must tempt providence. There he was on the ground, having fallen o...more

I enjoyed this book. I thought it was well written and very intriquing. It may seem predictable to some, but I didn't feel it was too predictable. You really got to know the characters well, I felt that thewy were my friends. Great Book!!! I had several friends aske to borrow it when I fifnished, so now it is making the rounds.

I loved this book, maybe because I was in a "husband hating" phase at the time I read it and the story is about a woman whose husband disappears and she discovers that she didn't know him nearly as well as she thought she did. I read this in about a day and wanted more.

Laura and Jeff Frye after 20 years together Jeff disappears. Laura finds many problems which she was unaware of and has to face the fact she really did not know him. In the story she reunites with an old love and together they delve into the mystery. Good Read

When one hears the term a woman betrayed we naturally think of a wife betrayed by a husband, and that is part of the story. But there is betrayal within the betrayal in this story. And it's hard to say which betrayal hurt the most. A very good read.

Laura Frye discovers that her husband Jeff was not the man she thought she knew when he disappears and is charged with tax fraud. His brother Christian comes back into her life to help her deal with her current problems and built a future.

Just finished this book last night, it was good but still love the first Barbara Delinsky book I read more (The Secret Life of Cee Wilkes). I enjoyed this story line but pretty much had it figured out long before the end of the book.

A book that is about a woman who thought she had the perfect life until her husband didn't come home from work, and her life started falling apart. About wrong choices and their consequences, but a happy ending after all.
Melanie
Just finished reading this again after having read it years ago and I loved it. It is about a woman who seems to have it all. Successful restaurant, happy marriage, great kids and wonderful friends. And then her husband disappears. From there her life spirals downward and the life she thought she had turns out to have been not so perfect after all. Ms. Delinsky is a wonderful writer who really makes the characters come to life. I found myself actually feeling sorry for her husband and even under...more

This was better than the last Delinsky book I read, but definitely nothing great. The dialogue was stilted and only a few of the characters were actually likeable. No more Delinsky for me.

Husband Jeff quietly leaves his wife Laura, 2 kids & job. His wonderful life behind, their lives in shambles.
Mary
This is a story about a woman whose husband unexpectedly leaves her and her two children. As time passes she slowly uncovers some unsettling secrets about her husband's past. Each time she thinks things can't get any worse another problem arises. This book kept me reading and wanting to find out what was about to happen next.

Fairly okay. Kind of a stretch. Wasn't surprising. Pretty predictable.
But all in all, an okay book.

I picked up this book at a yard sale a few years ago. There are 3 novels in one book. I picked it up and read the first, "A Woman Betrayed". I read it while I was waiting for another book to be delivered so it was just a filler-time book. I had never read Ms. Delinsky before. It was a fun easy read but very predictable. It is not a book that I would pick as a book club choice.
Lisa
Her husband was a scoundrel, but I really enjoyed reading this book.
Sue Scully
A sad story that is hard to imagine, yet totally believable.
Michelle
Good story, kind of typical. The wife is the last one to know.
Dana
Somewhat predictable, but as a whole a good book.

I was born and raised in suburban Boston. My mother’s death, when I was eight, was the defining event of a childhood that was otherwise ordinary. I took piano lessons and flute lessons. I took ballroom dancing lessons. I went to summer camp through my fifteenth year (in Maine, which explains the setting of so many of my stories), then spent my sixteenth summer learning to type and to drive (two sk...more
