I used to see Sandman comics around and I'd immediately become fixated on the covers. They were always so beautiful. Then I'd flip open the comic and discover that the inside looked nothing like the outside and I would put it right back down, never going any further. I can't even tell you how many times that happened.
Later, as I became a little more aware of how comics worked (insides never look like outsides) and as I read other stuff by Neil Gaiman, I'd think about reading the S...more

i loved this series back when it was all fresh and brand new. i've been assembling these absolute collections over birthdays and stuff the past few years with the plans of cranking through them all upon the release of the fourth volume. i sat down the other day with volume 1 and i've been in love all over again, if not even moreso than when i was reading them all fresh. blowing through the entire series straight through allows for all of the threads to come totally clear and, really, quite br...more

So I've finally been able to read the entire Sandman canon.
I rejoiced when the copy arrived on my reservation shelf at the public library only a month after being published. It was a year and a half ago that I realised what a beautiful and creative source of wisdom and inspiration a comic book could be. Wisdom that surpassed the majority of the texts and dialogues I witnessed in every ethics class of my philosophy curriculum. Stories and characters that inspire much more potential Ha...more

Well, I finally finished the Sandman and regret to say that I am barely less confused than when I started. Thank god I have massive geeks around to explain bits I had forgotten for me. It's so easy to forget all of the details (in the mere few months since I read the first three volumes)- it made me wonder if that's not the reason fans get so obsessive. How else would they remember all of the details from issue to issue?

fans of graphic novels, fans of the authors, collectors,
i'm repeating myself but there isn't anything to say about this that i haven't said about the first three. i could gush over it but you've heard it all before. it's just a completely beautiful collection of an amazing graphic novel. all four volumes are easily my most teasured books and the most aesthetically pleasing i own.
it's well worth the price.

I loved this series. When I finished I was very disappointed that the story was over. I'm going to look for some of the spin-off books so that I can ease my sadness over this break-up.
Once I saw the quality of the first book in the set, I knew I would have to have them all. Fantastic set, worth every penny.

These new Absolute editions of Sandman are truly beautiful. The recoloring, the large page size and high paper quality- it's all a wonderful way to re-experience these classic comics, still possibly the best series of graphic novels ever written, in my opinion. Well worth the money for any serious comics fan.
The Sandman comics are also available in a much less expensive paperback edition. They contain material that might not be appropriate for, or of interest to, younger readers.

Now that I've read The Absolute Sandman Vol. 1 - 4 as they were released, I have to read them all again in succession.

This book finishes up the Sandman series. I really enjoyed how the loose ends of the story are nicely tied up and brought together. I didn't like the art style as well as the first three books. The tragic elements are a nice connection to reality. SWC

Everyone!
Volume 4 brings a close to Gaiman's Sandman series, and really what an amazing series it was. I would personally classify this series as a must-read right alongside the Watchman.
It was engaging and just outright brilliant throughout.
Bravo Neil.

"It has always been the prerogative of children and half-wits to point out that the emperor has no clothes. But a half-wit remains a half-wit, and the emperor remains an emperor."
