My favourite book by Wislawa up to now. Simple, clear, beautiful. Makes you think. Captures the moment. Her thoughts deny the absolute reply, the dogmas, the fundamentalisms. She questions everything, and, at the same time, she celebrates this doubts, this moments of pure happiness, this big question that's life.

I wish I knew Polish to be able to read her originals. The translation isn't bad but... It's poetry. And poetry is unstranlatable. Maybe one day I'll learn how to speak it? Or at least...more

Another brilliant book of poems by Szymborska. Tough, intelligent. Like a conversation I never wanted to end.

As always the poems of Mrs. Szymborska are very beautiful and nicely translated into English.

As usual

Wisława Szymborska (Polish pronunciation: [vʲisˈwava ʂɨmˈbɔrska], born July 2, 1923 in Kórnik, Poland) is a Polish poet, essayist and translator. She was awarded the 1996 Nobel Prize in Literature. In Poland, her books reach sales rivaling prominent prose authors[citation needed]—although she once remarked in a poem entitled "Some like poetry" [Niektórzy lubią poezję] that no more than two out of...more
