Management consultant Kate Svenson has a high-powered job in her father's company, enough money to live worry free, and a plan for the way her life should work out. The only thing she doesn't have is a relationship--the crux of the life plan. Kate wants to be married, and not just to any man, but to one who meets certain requirements. He has to be successful, intelligent, distinguished, well-mannered, and ambitious. It sounds easy enough, particularly when her best friend sends her to a golf res...more

Manhunting is apparently Crusie's first book, but actually, I didn't have any suspicion of this until I finished, and read the foreword. (Which I did last, because I'm like that.) In retrospect, the rich were rather thick on the ground, which was maybe Crusie relying on the conventions of the genre.
I had thought that the rule of thumb for Crusie books is that the ones with dogs are the good ones, but this has only a hypothetical dachshund, and I enjoyed the hell out of it, so that can't be...more

This book was hilarious! It is so hard to write a good romantic comedy. This is the first book I've read by this author and checked it out simply because I wanted to read a pink book. Usually I read books where there is a really good romance but not much of a plot, or a really good plot without much of a romance. I felt like this book had both. There were some major steamy scenes, so watch out, but this was one of the funniest books I've ever read.

There are times when I crave a night of romantic comedies. Manhunting fulfills this hunger in book form.
Is it mindless? Yes.
It is predictable? Yup.
Is it for everyone?Probably not. But that's okay!
For those of you that adore a cute little love story, this is it! I don't know if it's because I haven't read any chick lit lately, but I let my emotions rush with Kate (the main character). I swooned, I hoped for the best and got what I/she wanted.

Jennifer Crusie writes the best romance novels I’ve ever read, with humor and thrills added in. I actually laugh out loud, a lot, whenever I read her. And I love how the women are described as emphatically NOT tiny or “perfect,” and indeed are usually described as round and sexy. All of her books are a bit formulaic (girl ignores and then falls for right guy and then finds out he’s perfect), but every story is different and bewitching. This is an earlier book, and a good one.

Another fun read from Crusie. It turns out this is actually her first book, reprinted with a much less embarrassing cover (poor Jennifer), and it shows, a little. Not her strongest novel, but fun and silly, and the hero has a mustache. Thought that was worth mentioning. Oh, and someone gets stabbed with a fork! I lol'd, as it were.
She really is good at banter. These characters can go back and forth with the best of them, and I have a huge weakness for solid banter.

Okay, so the ending is totally predictable...as in, it's obvious within the first couple of chapters who the main character is going to fall in love with. But the story between the beginning and the end is entertaining and funny, and the dialogue has some wonderful banter. I found myself laughing quite often at the sarcasm and light wit.

I've been reading romantic fiction for years and am always on the look out for a likeable story that doens't make me nauseous but still delivers on the sweet stuff (after all I want ROMANTIC fiction). So I liked this author. the story was sweet, not too kinky and its pleasant. And best of all the writing didn't make me cringe. I will definitely be ok about buying more of her books.

Romance. Very early Crusie and, from what little I remember of it (a singles resort? ...a dive bar where they play pool?) not her best work, but still better than a lot of other contemporary romances out there.
Two stars only because there's so many other Crusie books I enjoy more. Otherwise it's a quick read, cute and fluffy.

So far this my favorite of hers. The main character goes to a resort to meet the perfect man, and meets the most incredible group of idiots. Except for one. Love the verbal exchanges between the two of them. Another laugh out loud book in my opinion. Ms. Crusie is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

This book was originally published as a Harlequin Romance under another name. I picked it up because I love Jennifer Crusie. She writes in the liner notes that this is her favorite book because, despite it's flaws, it's the first one she ever wrote. Put in that context, it's really a fun, quick read.

This was a light and funny tale that didn't require much thinking, which is fun in its own way. The intro from Crusie stated it was her first book, and I was pretty impressed with it. Not her best book, but for it being her first book it was not bad. I still enjoyed it.

Jennifer Crusie is one author that I choose when I want something romancey but not overwhelmingly so. One downside to her novels is that there is usually some weird murder/death that happens and kind of changes the direction of the book.

This was I believe her first book and it has the tell tale markings of a 'first time out', but it has her trademark witty comments and situations. Its a predictable romantic book but its funny enough to keep you interested till the end.

Not a bad read, but not a great read either. Jennifer Crusie said in her introduction that it was her first novel and admitted that it was not her best work. Perhaps reading that before reading the story influenced my opinion of it.

Jennifer Crusie books...for me...is a fun, fast read with basically all the cliches of chick books. there's love, relationships, some obstacle to overcome...and in the end, everyone is happy. the books are funny too, which is a plus.

Not one of my favorites by Crusie but it was a decent read. I wonder do we (single & over 30) actually make a plan like Kate's and do we stick to it. Are we that desparate to settle down by a centain age and have the 2.5 kids?

I'd rather give this 3 1/2 stars rather than three but I just can't give it four. It was a decent book and I do like Crusie (can't remember what else I've read by her at the moment) but it wasn't anything to write home about.

when you think about what a single overlystressed single girl wants on vacation, you come up with fun and maybe a little romance. and thats just what Kate plans to do. will she find love or will it be like all of the rest

This book moved a little slower for me than some of her others, but I still really liked it. While some of her books seem to have the same plot line, this one seems to have a little more twists and a few more characters.
