In this must-have short-story collection, Jennifer Weiner revisits on of her Good in Bed characters (and tells the story from, ahem, his point of view), Jill A. Davis (Girl's Poker Night) offers darkly humorous take on starting over in New York and working with "the Elizabeths" and Alisa Valdes-Rodriquez (The Dirty Girls Social Club)...more

This is not really the kind of book that is good for me to read straight through, but that's what I'm doing because that is how I read my books.

It is, however, a beachy, soaking-in-the-tub, not requiring a lot of thought sort of read.

Lots of well-known chick-lit authors contributed, but I felt like many of them did it half-assed - as though they knew they weren't making any money off their contributions and didn't bother to put much effort in because of that. And, maybe that's not really how the...more

Yes, I know, more chick lit, aaaaaiiiyah! But this was a collection of short stories, to benefit the War Child charity. Had I actually bought it, instead of renting it, I'd probably feel like one of those Good People© you hear so much about. In any case, with any compilation, you get your good and your bad. In CDs, this usually has a better good-to-bad ratio. In books, maybe not so much. I admit, I rented this because of Meg Cabot, who, I've mentioned before, is one of my guilty pleasures author...more

I am on a bit of a short story kick. I have another one of these books by the same title to read, it is a series of short stories by famous authors that were put together by red dress ink and the proceeds benefit a charity. I am not sure how many versions were done, this one I just read was kind of the American or North American one, with Jennifer Weiner and Meg Cabot being authors. Since I am trying to write some short stories, there is more opportunity to submit them in contests and such, I t...more

I just finished up this book and enjoyed getting a taste of so many different authors. Most stories were great but some were bad.

My favorites:
What Goes Around...
Know It All
Changing People
Party Planner
Dougie, Spoons and the Aquarium Solarium

My dislikes:
Siren Songs
The Marrying Kind
Rudy

From The Cat Lady by Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez:

"She wore a flirty pink velour J.Lo jogging suit she had promised herself she'd get rid of now that she was the same age as the singer/actress."

Hmmmm... Last I checked, if...more

The reason I picked up this book was because two of my favorite authors wrote short stories for it - Meg Cabot and Sophie Kinsella. Plus, I love a good short story and the book promised to contain a bunch of stories geared towards a female audience for the most part.

The book called out multiple reactions from me - some stories I loved, some stories I liked and some I didn't end up caring about at all.

I, of course, have my favorites:

1. Party Plan...more

Although some of the stories in this book are confusing or a little boring, the majority of them were entertaining tales about relationships. I particularly liked 'Cat Lady' about a woman who gave up finding love and decided to become a cat lady- I'll let you find out how that one ends. Another stand-out was 'The Truth Is Out There'; an extremely original story about an alien who intervenes in the life of one girl, ending spectacularly. I recommend this book for a weekend read.

I'm starting to think that maybe I'm just not a person who enjoys the short story - although I like the idea of a quick read and getting an opportunity to read from a sampling of a variety of authors, this collection was disappointing. Maybe I had too high of hopes for it after the book spent years (literally) on my TBR shelf. I found many of the stories to be overly quirky, strange and not able to hold my attention for even the short amount of time that they took to read. Also, I found it to be...more

half of these stories are great typical chick lit, the other half are terrible crap that i couldn't bring myself to finish (and the stories are only 5-10 pages long). overall a great book because it didn't require a lot of attention. i thought it would be great for the beach, but a little more than halfway through i realized i wanted something with a little more substance. i'd recommend it for more of a quick winding down before bed.

This was an anthology and as with many books like this, some of the stories I really liked and others, not so much.

I particularly liked Party Planner by Meg Cabot, Know it All by Sarah Mlynowski, The Truth is Out There by Marian Keyes and Acting Strangely by Chris Manby.

As strange at it seems since these are all NYT bestselling authors, I've not read anything else by them so I will be checking out more in the future.

A fun and humorous diversion! Each short story was uniquely different, some light romantic comedies and some a bit darker. I found myself curious about the women who wrote these stories and what other works they have created. Just like my friend who lent me this and a pile of books said she felt. Thanks, A!

First off, I didn't finish this book. I started out really liking the book, but once I got to Dating the Enemy by Lauren Henderson, I hit a brick wall and became uninterested in finishing her story and the rest of the book. However, I did skip forward to Jennifer Weiner's story since it was about a character from one of her other books (Good In Bed) that I have read in the past. Some of the stories I really enjoyed and would have loved to see a full book about them, but not all the stories were...more

This is a book of short stories, and for me they were hit and miss. Some were great, and others (like the alien one) just bored me to tears. The stories in the beginning were a lot better than the ones near the end. The last three were pretty good. I would have liked the Jennifer Weiner story better if I hadn't read Good in Bed and already hated that character.

This book was good company during my three months stay in Wellington, New Zealand. Loads of short stories on random meet ups, love, you get the gist. Perfect book for mindless time-killing. Needless to say, I didn't really make a good connection with this book.

Love this book.. perfect for people who have ADD and just want something quick to read. Some stories were better than others (I'm already a huge fan of Laura Caldwell and Meg Cabot, but there are a ton of other great stories in here, too!) but overall it's a great collection and definitely gives you something to do on a cold night when you're home alone and just want to relax.

A collection of short stories, mostly chick lit authors of the British variety. One or two stories were moderately amusing, but the rest left me remembering why I don't like short stories in general, and why I don't read that much chick lit.

"We are all desperate to be in love. But we are still more desperate to hide it. So for pride's sake, we pretend, to ourselves and others, that it's all about sex instead."

"Even if they were giving away happiness, she'd probably put it in storage, she thought, thinking of all the months she'd lived without."

I just could not get into this book. I like many of the authors, but I did not care for this. It seemed that most of the stories were half hearted attempts and and there were a few that were just crap that I skipped. I forced myself to finish. I think I will just stick to the full books and not short stories.

This book is a collection of short stories written by authors like I like to read such as Meg Cabot, Jennifer Weiner, etc. Some of the short stories were really good while others just kind of left me thinking "what was the point of the story?" I wouldn't really recommend this book to anyone, I was pretty bored reading it.
Kristin
I read this at some point, I remember the name and the cover. I don't remember the stories in it (which is how I am with most short story collections). I'm just going to say I read it in 2007 because it was probably around there.
Keely
Not a bad book, but not great. Was kind of hoping for more as some of these authors I REALLY Like, but what can you do. Hots onsome of the short stories, misses on others but a simple enough book to take to the beach or pool.
Marissa
An overall fun, light read that moves quickly. As with all short story anthologies, I preferred some stories over the others. However, I liked the majority, and with the proceeds going to charity, it was a worthwhile investment.

My first short story book and it has won my over!! Its great to dip in and out off. Most of the stories were really enjoyable and I found the problem was I wished I could have that story as a 'proper' book.
Jeanine
A whole bunch of short stories. Some better than others. The short story aspect was good because I could read one and then go to bed - not stay up and read one more chapter... one more chapter..
Kristin (Kritters Ramblings)
A collection of short stories from the best of the chick lit genre. If you read any chick lit, I would say this is worth picking up. I liked taking a break every little bit to read a short story that I could get into quick and then come to the conclusion in just a few short pages. I think I should do this more often, adds variety to my reading.

Although there were some stories that I wished were full blown novels, there were some that I was glad would be ending quickly. Without going and dissecti...more

I enjoyed this book of short stories! I also think it is awesome that these authors do this for charity! I love short stories, so many in this book were good, and the bad ones not so bad because you don't have a lot of time invested in each one!
Sheela
This was a horrible anthology of short stories, written by famous chick-lit authors. I couldn't even name one story that stood out to me. They were all forgettable, cliche, and boring.
Nicole
OK - so as I was reading this I kept thinking it sounded so familiar . . . guess I've already read it. It has short stories from many of my favorite chick lit authors, so it is a fun read. The stories are quick too!
Ginerva612
I bought this book just really for Meg Cabot's story and in the process I got to read a bunch of other good short stories. I like books with a bunch of short stories in it.

Born in London in 1966, Lauren Henderson read English at university and then worked as a journalist for - among other publications - the New Statesman, Marxism Today, the Observer and Lime Lizard, a much-mourned indie music magazine. Lauren now divides her time between Italy and London and, when not wine-tasting, writes full-time.
