Heather
I read these books when I was little and I remember loving the pictures. Re-reading this it is diffently for kids but would be a perfect bedtime story book. The chapters are short and sweet and each has a small lesson to learn. Ultra high on the cute factor.
Joy Gerbode
Wonderful, fanciful stories for children that teach some basic principles of good living. Delightful characters, mostly "bugs" in this book, such as a spider, a cricket, and a grasshopper family.

Johnny Gruelle was an American artist, political cartoonist, children's book author and illustrator (and even songwriter). He is known as the creator of Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy. He had such confidence in his design that often he would create the final ink work without first sketching in pencil.
